Mini-Skirt Or Not, No More Customers

Face it: Japanese Wii owners buy Wii Sports, Wii Fit and maybe Super Mario Galaxy. That's about it, really! So, when a third party company releases something that, well, isn't any of those three, what happens? Not much. That's No More Heroes executive producer and Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada and No More Heroes and Killer 7 creator Goichi Suda hoping to give out toilet paper and hoping to sign copies of NMH. Thing is, after twenty minutes of Suda and Wada standing in front of Akihabara's Sofmap, nobody bought the game. Keep in mind, that not only two well-known game creators were giving out toilet paper, but there was also a woman in a mini-skirt. Talk about a tough crowd!

Wow, this is sad and stupid but really, NMH is a hardcore gamer's game and Wii is a full casual console. When they made a violent and unique NMH for Wii, they should have expected this.
I personally can't wait for No More Heroes. Hope they learn their lesson and make their future ultra violent games for PS3 and 360.

I feel so bad for Wada and Suda.
They make this awesome game exclusively for the Wii, and no one buys it (at least in Japan at this point - but we all know what's gonna happen in the US).

Third party developers really should start making games for the other systems. I'm worried about the future of Nintendo. I'm still happy I own my Wii, and I look forward to some great games coming out on it in the future; but I'll be happier when I own my PS3 too.

As for Nintendo, it has always been like this and aside from DS, Nintendo systems always are best for N itself. I hope Wada and Suda bring NMH and other games to PS3 and 360.

This is proof that serious game developers need to stay far from the Wii. Don't bother making a big game for it. You won't have good sales. The Wii is a gimmicky console. If your game doesn't use some odd controller and make the player jump around like an idiot don't bother making it for the Wii.

But yeah besides Wii Sports, Zelda, Mario and Metroid Prime there isn't really something that sells like it should I guess. There isn't anything I would buy on the Wii for sure. And then even those games have to be the genre you like. mmmhhhhh

Its not just that.If you look at it new IPs are doing well in japan at all on both the wii and PS3?
This is really bad for them because eastern developers will start making new games for the western market,since its a case that westerners are beginning to get really interested in Japanese anima.As can be seen by the developer of NO MORE HEROES expressing his desire to create a 360 game to appeal to the western audience.

6 - Somehow, I'm completely not-surprised.

This is really sad for the Wii and its community.
And it's bad for the industry, and especially bad for hardcore gamers. Given the popularity of Wii, situations like this will ultimately lead to more and more and more dull casual games popping up and taking the charts, leading to demise of quality blood-soaked hardcore games, because the publishers won't be interested in those.

Publisher should think about getting casual gamers play (and like) hardcore games.

This is exactly why I hate Wii and it's casual trend because Wii is not turning Casual gamers into hardcore ones. It's making them even more casuals and we may end up with more Brain Ages, Brain Trainings, Dr Kwa..., WiiFit's, Wii Plays and such in the top sellers and less and less No More Heroes and games like that.

right on the head. They say the wii games sell well, which they do, but the hardcore third party titles don't. Did you see how they advertise madden on the wii with a grandma tackling someone? ITs kinda of funny, but thats they people big N is trying to get. My boss got a wii, and he wants to get a 360 or ps3 now because he said there isn't any game for grown-ups to play, his words not mine. My friend for four years got a wii and wasn't going to get a next gen system because they were too much, but after only playing the wii for almost year and really wanting to play, warhawk, uncharted, kane and lynch, assasians creed, call of duty, he gave it and got a ps3. The wii is cool for casuals. I'm sorry but its only a ps2 with a unique controller. I love old school games and graphics isn't everything, thats why i got a DS, but I want my home console to be able to push gaming to the next level and the wii isn't going to be doing that sorry.

The PS3 only has two games that have sold over a million copies. Care to guess how many are by third parties (hint: It's less than one)? The Wii has 11 games that have sold over one million copies and three are by third parties.

ok, tell me, give me a list, then tell me how many of these games are for casual gamers, thats where im getting at, you see this game "No More Heroes", this game is aimed for the hardcore, the crazy nintendo fanboys who brought nintendo product since the 80s, what I used to be before I switched. I went into that nintendo store in New YOrk City the Other day (where I live of course) and all I see is casual games being played on the wii, except for 3 games that is aimed for the hardcore, 2 of which was pretty bad. I dont play casual games except for Guitar Hero, thank you.

You said nobody buys third party games, and thus the Wii is a fad--You said nothing about about casual games. Even if there were no hardcore games for the Wii (and I count five million+ sellers for the Wii that have hardcore appeal) what is wrong with that? The Wii doesn't have to appeal to everybody to be succesful, and casual gamers have long been overlooked.

Hell, even if third party support tanked completely (impossible given the number of consoles sold) the Wii seems to be doing pretty well, with Nintendo published games easily outselling the entire PS3 catalog.

you see NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, another game thats not going to sell on the wii, yea, you heard it here first. Sega is smart that they are porting the game to the PS2. Im not hating, Im just saying wii owners are japordizing their console to the point when it could end up like another n64,when people complained why there are no games for the console. and yes I had a N64. 3rd party companies dont know how they can sell their product on the wii, and that could cause them to just pay extra money to make their games on the PS2, or to the 'Real' Next gen consoles. That anaylist who said the wii is becoming a Fad was right. Guitar Hero was possibly the only 3rd party game that sold well on the wii, cause the game caters to casuals.

The top five third party games for the Wii (listed above) have sold 4.71m combined. The top five third party games for the PS3 (COD4, Assassins Creed, Fifa 08, Need for Speed: Carbon, and Ridge Racer) have sold 3.25m combined. Granted third party sales for the Wii could be much better, but I see no reason to be concerned.

People are just crazy, they jump all over a mature game that doesnt sell well for the wii. Like someone else said new ips havent been selling to well on any system in japan. People are making something out of nothing here. You cant really say oh well if it was on the ps2 it would sell well or blah blah blah thats BS. You have no idea, ICO was good and on ps2 did it sell well no.

pychonauts was an awesome on ps2 and xbox did it sell well? Face it more and more gamers like to spend their money on established franchises or games with a huge marketing budget. I dont even know the reviews for No more heros yet. It looks interesting but I really dont know how it will turn out nor do most of you guys. There have been some decent selling 3rd party games ont he wii who have gotten decent sales. I hope this game does decent in the states I will pick it up if the reviews look good or if they are not Ill get it a few years down the road.

As far as the comment about putting it on the ps2 yes I think they should have also put it on there. Reach more poeple but in no way would it be a sure fire hit.

As far as MH yeah your not an idiot if you think its gonna bomb because its on the wii. Japan will go nuts for it and snap it right up. Because those are the games they love and an established franchise.

I'm sorry, but many blood soaked HC games don't do so well in Japan. I think it's more about the culture then anything. FPShooters don't do well there either.
Look at this last top ten on VGC:

Okay whatever guys. We all knew that a Suda game would not sell well. They only have the cult following and it wouldn't even be a blockbuster. Suda knew this and still made the game. Plus 3rd party games are selling on the Wii. It's the 3rd party quick cash in's that are not selling!

Once again we all knew No More Hero's wouldn't sell like hot cakes. It's a great game for the Wii and that is that. I'm looking forward to it and as ITR pointed out Japan isn't even into the whole blood and guts sort of gameplay. Lets just see what the rest of the world does. I'm not saying it's going to sell awesome and kick butt in the states but I think it'll do somewhat okay for what type it is.

What I'm getting out of this is that Japan has become a casual gaming society. I'm sure there are hardcore gamers there, it's just that they get engulfed by the casuals. Do we really want our gaming society to turn into this? It's the main reason I'm against the Wii and it's popularity. It's the first Nintendo system I didn't want to buy. That's pretty sad considering I grew up on Nintendo. Bad enough I already lost my beloved SEGA as well.
