Quest for the Nintendo Wii leaves many empty-handed

The holiday shopping season is upon us, and if your little one is craving the world's most popular gaming system, you may have a Wii problem.

Last year, Nintendo's Wii gaming console became a latter-day Cabbage Patch Kid or Tickle Me Elmo, prompting long lines of desperate parents haunting gaming emporiums and big chain stores hoping to satisfy the gaming demands of their precious little snowflakes

Well, it seems someone hit the replay button. Here comes the sequel, Quest for Wii 2007.

Electronic game retailers already are under siege, and despite Nintendo's claims that they are churning out Wii consoles at an unprecedented pace, there are few of the $250 units available for consumers.

The alternatives - Sony's PlayStation3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 - just won't do, retailers report.

1 - Nintendo is smart!

Someone with some intelligence could tell they have been rationing the machines so there will always be demand and bring a heck of a positive buzz. They should have opened those extra plants they scraped soon after launch, and then consumer would be more happy or kids in the majority of this matter.

Nintendo have milked the demand situation long enough. There are no cutting edge components in that box. All the components are off the shelf and they choose to starve the consumers to maintain buzz on their console.

This is pathetic, any children who want the console should be able to get one. Nintendo should just bring on Celestica and other manufacturing plants to churn these or face negative press.

Well if Nintendo don't send out limited amount of Wii' each month..then everyone would have a Wii.and then there won't be any media coverage about how scarce the Wii is...Nintendo's Strategy might just back fire on them..haha..that would be nice also..!!

Stop making consoles' buyers into groups - you won't get anything out of it.

He says the PS3 has 2 million sales overall, the 360 has 7.1 million, and the Wii has 5 million, and the Xbox 360 came out 4 years before the PS3 and Wii.

He was talking January to June figures, not really sure why though unless this is an old article that was just "refreshed" for the holidays.

EDIT: I agree that the details of this article are clumsy at best, but VGChartz has 360 at 8 million, Wii at 5 million & PS3 at 2 million the end of October for what that's worth, and I took the "which came on the market four years before its competitors" mess to mean that MS was a newcomer to the console market. In the end though I'm not defending this article because I think the author should probably be doing something else because he's not very good with the keyboard.

so, it will sell some,
though sales in Japan for now went down, and till SSBB coming, i don`t see them rising.

Wii was cheap(~199$), everyone who wanted it, bought it in Japan. Can`t wait to see, how will sell 199$ costing ps3. =))

I knew it would be like this by Christmas, that's why I got one really early. I had to buy 2 games with it when I got it, but it was still for retail price. I feel bad for people that are buying it from EBay or having to buy it with a huge bundle of stuff you're not going to use. I bet by the time Super Smash Bros Brawl comes out, they'll temporarily have a bunch of Wiis to sale, and then it'll be the same episode again

this is mii take on the wii
last gen - all up 45 million bought an xbox and 120 mill bought a ps2.
I guarantee you that every 165 million of these gamers will by a ps3 or a 360 at some stage during this generation. I honestly don't believe that too many of us will buy a Wii only. How disappointed will you be coming from a xbox or ps2 to only a wii with 3 good games so far this gen. Its only the "others" who are buying wiis. Children, old people, tech heads ect. Its like having a dam iPod. - (this is why a ps3 or 360 wont do- its not cool enough!) Then occasionally you'll get one of us that will fall for the hype and buy the dam thing, play SMG and brawl and then let the thing collect dust. Sheesh!
