Wii Fit Retail Pre-Orders: 120,000-300,000 in Japan

According to Sinobi, Japanese retailers are unsure just how well the Wii Fit and Wii Balance Board package will sell, and they have pre-ordered between 120,000 and 300,000 copies from Nintendo, which launches on 1st December.

Level 5's Professor Layton and the Devil's Box on DS, due 29th November, though, has around 600,000 retail pre-orders.

I am sure that if they wanted to play online games they would fire up their computers and play online, so why xbox live? Not to mention the fact that the xbox doesn't really have a presence in Japan.

That's a pretty big discrepancy. It damages the credibility of the article for me. But on the other hand that's alot of games!!!Though I did expect this to sell well so it's really not a surprise.

I think the Wii would need this to get ahead of the PS3 again in japan wouldnt it? Thats a good things in some ways, but I would think that the PS3 version of DMC4 would sell much better.

Wiifit and the whole wii in general is gaming's downfall. I hope to god Microsoft and Sony stay the course. We have real gamers out here still... One's who are smart enough to by into technology over gimmicks.

This number is because most Japanese gamers tried WiiFit at TGS and found how horrible it is. Back at TGS, WiiFit's lines (For play test) were longer than Professor Layton and Dragon Quest lines combined but now Professor Layton has 600k while WiiFit has 150k. Why? Because everyone tried WiiFit at TGS and saw how useless and disgusting the thing is.

The only thing it will be good for is snowboarding.
I don't see how you can stay in shape with this. It has the least amount of movement for an exercise unless you do yoga. But why spend this much on a sneaker holder? I personally need to use more than 2 muscles to stay fit.

Indeed I hated it. It was the worst thing in GDC / TGS. My co-workers also felt the same and even a Nintendo fan hated WiiFit after trying.
Unless Nintendo dramaticly changes WiiFit, you'll feel how bad I felt at GDC...
DarkArcani, it's not even good for that. Trsut me, the thing was buggy and almost non-functional and reminded me of Power Glove.

The only fun thing about WiiFit was how inaccurate the thing was and even by doing exact opposit and wrong moves, it still though we were doing the right thing! Of course the Nintendo respresentive didn't like it much and tried to explain the correct methods of play!
Even the Screw Attack guys (Biggest Nintendo fans on planet and PS3/360 haters) didn't like it and made fun of WiiFit. Also, they showed how inaccurate the thing is in their E3 tour. I couldn't believe it when I saw them pumping the air and WiiFit registering something different yet at GDC, it was proven...

Wii $#IT is right. I will never forget E-3 when Reggie kept pulling out plastic attachments and add on perepherials for the wii... It was so painful to watch. Then, the grandaddy game, the Wii fitboard... WOW! I was shocked at how absurd that pile of Donkey **** is.

I mean, their whole E-3 was like an infomercial of them trying to pawn cheap plastic garbage off on us. A wiizapper... A wiiwheel... A wiifit board. Whatever... you said it best. Wii $#IT! That's what I look at when I see Nintendo today. $#IT!

If I want to exercise I'll go for a run, bikeride, or to the gym. Where's WiiEat so I can cook hamburgers without turning off my Wii as well. As DarkArcani said above, the only future use I see for this is maybe for snowboarding.

what the hell do i care i'll be waiting approx 3 years for this to be released where i live. Y-A-WN. I didnt know there were 300,000 wii's in existence.....me and my mate brian got the only two in the UK last year, i thought they manufactured 6 for japan 4 for the us and north america and 2 for the uk, which me and bri got. thats a total of 12 machine on earth.

It's a terrible idea... No one will buy it for use with wii-fit. They'll buy it for the potential of later use with skateboarding, snowboarding games... Maybe a mechanic mini game too... Where they can use the wiifit baord to slide underneath the car in some idiotic mini game... Oh, wait... all wii games are mini games. Sorry.

not to hate on the wii, but on friday, when I was in new york city, I went to the nintendo world store at rockafeller plaza, looked at their nice exhibits, such as the burned gameboy that still works, which has a tetris game in it. Then I tested the wii zapper to see how "great" this is. my verdict, fail. I was playing the medal of honor heroes game and Resident evil umbrella chronicles, and the thing is just inacurate.
I just dont know, but seriously, 3rd party companies should think twice if they actually want to develop games for the system, so far the only sucessful 3rd party game thats selling well for that platform is guitar hero 3 and we all know GH3 is made for all groups, Hardcore gamers and the casual gamers. but this, whatever. i refuse to pick up a wii until i see a kick*ss 3rd party game that actually uses the controls properly. the upcoming wii game No More Heroes is a contender for this.
