Ocarina of Time reclaims number one at GameRankings from Super Mario Galaxy

Destructoid's Jim Sterling reports on 11.22.2007:

"For a while, Nintendo crown jewel Super Mario Galaxy had become the highest ranked game of all time, beating out The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time and breaking a nine year streak for the N64 classic. Well, a new review of Galaxy has come along and, like a fiendish pooper of parties, reduced Galaxy's overall score down by a mere few percent on Game Rankings, just enough to allow Link a leg back up to the top."

Destructoid has the new average review scores for the top two ranking games of all time.

1 - I don't own a Wii

and I had zero plans of getting one until I read all of the reviews surrounding Mario Galaxy. Mario is one of those games that no matter how tired you are of Mario in general you just want to take him on in his next adventure. It's almost like an addiction you just can't break no matter how hard you try.

A new Zelda would not make me want to purchase a Wii. That is my 2 cents for what ever it's worth.

A new Zelda would be the ONLY game that could ever make me buy a Wii (assuming the price has dropped $100 or so by then). I just hope they include standard controls as well so I don't have to look like a complete idiot waving my hands around.

Anytime I wanna play a last gen game... I simply pop one into my Ps3 or boot up one of my many emulators for my Ps3. I have no need for a Wii. Nintendo is junk and they could package a game called "Fun with feces" and you all would love it and buy it and adorn it with 9's and 10's... You know why? Cause you're a bunch of yuppies.

5 - Orcarina needs to be dethroned

Look, I agree it was a good game, but I can think of quite a few that have dethroned it since. These guys at gamerankings are just holding on to a younger feeling they had when OoT first came out. Sure it's a great legend, but let it the f#ck go! Mario Galaxy is by FAR better than OoT.

Much better. SMG is great but it's not the mind blowing and innovative game that Ocarina was. That classic was a huge huge step forward for gaming along with Mario 64.

Ocarina of Time is the best game I've ever played to date, and I've played HL2,Bioshock,SotC,FFVII,GoW and all of the other mind blowing games out there
and still, none of those games gave me the joy and pure good ol Fun
I had with Ocarina of Time....

SMG is a great game but It never did what OoT could
Revolutionize and set a benchmark for All 3d games out there :o

Ohh and I like Link ALOT more than I like mario..

Good comment. While I don't like Ocarina as much, I do believe that it deserves to be the best because it was a true benchmark. If any game is worthy of getting near Ocarina, it should be either BioShock, Half Life 2 or SOTC, because more than being good, the best game has to be kind of revolution while SMG only perfected platformer and got many elements from Psychonauts.

As for liking the characters, I prefer Samus to both Link and the plumber.

Why does everyone love Ocarina of Time so much? Why do people love Galaxy so much?

If you want immersive, get Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, or Resident Evil 4. How did frickin' Zelda get number 1??? It's really not that good. It has such a subpar storyline. Did anyone actually CRY during this game? I'm talking even girls here...

How "immersed" can you guys really get into Zelda? I appreciate games as an artform, but I still do NOT understand Zelda's popularity. It's good...but...why is it FANTASTIC?

i liked OOT but my dime is still Link to the past.
The reason People like OOT that much is because to many it was their first ZELDA game....
Zelda on the original nes was my first zelda ever, then came zelda II.
the effect OOT had, was the same for me with Link to the past, therefor i dont think OOT was the best zelda, it was a really good game but it didnt had the magic like link to the past....although...windwaker is really close.

Super mario bros 3 best in platforming
link to the past best in adventure games ( back then it was called an RPG..)

but yeah thats me, so these throne kickers dont really matter, and i dont get why its upsetting some people, why would my opinion matter...why would their opinion matter!

Though I've beaten SMG, I still like to visit levels just to look at them again or play certain levels that were just downright fun. But even though I do that, it can't compare to the replay value that OoT had. I'd even sit there and just fish sometimes back in the day, because at the time, OoT had the best fishing experience on a console. Let alone the pure wonder and amazement of doing the Water temple for the third time in a year and still finding it beautiful and challenging.

As a matter of fact, it almost makes me want to go play it now. I'm sure that SMG will be that type of game, but not quite to the same extent. With that being said though, SMG is the most purely fun game I've played in YEARS. To play a video game that just forces a happy smile onto your face no matter what kind of mood you are in is priceless. SMG is great, but moreso because we've been starved for a pure fun game (of this magnitude) like this for so long. Just my opinion anyway.

The only reason I think Zelda OOT belongs there is because it was the first time that they introduced us to such a huge fantasy world in 3d with lil villages and everything.....and ya know introduced the riding of teh HORSE! lol which everyone loved....its just one of those classic games in time that had little extras and twists in the story and kept you into the game from point a to point b......and this is comming from someone who rocks mostly fps games now...

If you havnt played it I say play it...cuz this game had so many fun parts to it...that it would just be a shame now to try it...

Btw the fishing game in it was so funny lol....yet I would keep fishn for the damn big fish!!!
