Nintendo has just issued a rather boastful press release that Super Mario Galaxy has sold over 500,000 copies in its first week on sale in the US.

That makes 750,000 in it's first week in the US and Japan combined. Those are great numbers! If Wii owners don't buy any games, I wonder who bought 3/4 of a million copies of Mario Galaxy.

HMM yeah it sold alot..that wasn't expected..remember that lot of kids also like mario...still most Wii games don't sell...etc..!!

sales will tumble next week..then we'll see a spike in holidays ..then it's down again..

This 500k puts this game on a pace ahead of any Mario game before it, so actually things are seemingly better for Mario games than ever before. (If we are going to use such a small sample size time-wise that is).

in saying that Mario Galaxy sales wasn't on par with previous Mario game sales. I wonder how much Ratchet and Clank sold....because "it's so much better than MG"

People like to say bad things about the Wii. At least most of them seem to live at home and have younger siblings that have a Wii, and they've happened to play some games, because it would be a shame for anyone not to get to enjoy Mario Galaxy, even those that feel they must talk bad about it to justify their console of choice.

Good for software sales and it does show that Wii owners are aware of upcoming games. Usually it starts of slow and stays consistant. Mario just shot off like most 360 games. Hopefully the sales stay this high for a bit ^^

It's unlikely it will drop off too much. I know people who want this game but aren't getting it now, because they're asking for it for Christmas.

That should indicate sales will be strong for quite a while...assuming it's not an isolated occurance, and, given the time of its release, it would suprise me if it was.

9 - Love the game.

But really funny thing here is, that this game was sold out on a local retailer, and they said they wouldn't get any games prior to christmas. Must suck to be them. Other game retailers had only few in stock, even though the game's 59.95€ here... Gamestop had many, but that's because they ask 65€ for it. Ridiculous prices around here anyway.

Nintendo software is known for marathon sales, so I won't be suprised if SMG reaches at least 15 milion in 10 years.
