Rock Band is a great game. The presentation elements are top-notch and take music games to a new level; consider the bar raised. Though there are three separate solo careers, Rock Band is best experienced with a group of friends. The only major concerns are with the hardware. The guitar is inferior to other versions on the market and it seems likely that before Rock Band II arrives, many will have broken their drum kits (how long can you beat that thing before it dies?). Still, this is an excellent game overall. Anyone who invests the extra money to purchase some of the stellar downloadable content is certain to be playing Rock Band well into next year. Heck, you can tell by the mammoth size of this review just how much there is to say about Rock Band. Without question, Rock Band is one of the must-have games of the year.

I play guitar (no expert, but I love it) and I used to say the same thing until I picked up Guitar Hero 3. NOW I KNOW what all the fuss is about, and my love for Guitar Hero 3 has convinced me to buy Rock Band (I paid off the preorder today). You just won't know until you play it. Hitting the proper chords on the guitar is twice as hard as playing hard on Guitar Hero 3, but that doesn't mean the game isn't fun as hell. I have fallen in love with Guitar Hero 3 and i'm really looking forward to Rock Band now.

Bottom line-Don't knock it until you've tried it.

i can't wait for this game, i do play real guitar, real drums, real bass, i'm a great singer(so the drunken people at the bars i play at claim), and I can even play banjo, ukulele, violin, and i'm great at piano...

real instruments are much better than these, but with the games like this it does give you a chance to play with your friends who arent good with instruments, and it can be more competitive and actually give you a goal to accomplish(beating the song 100%) Sure, there's the same goals with real instruments, but if you're using your guitar with alot of distortion you dont know if you hit the chord right or not =P

7 - Once they get the online world tour working....its going to be extremely awesome!

The downloadable content is going to come out every week for Rock Band...if you had to choose between GH3 and Rock band, after this review...Rock Band is going to be the better game....Good luck finding Rock Band in the stores...

I want this so much but now I have to wait a few weeks since AC, Uncharted, and Mass Effect came out around the same time. I was going with thise over GHIII because of the tracklisting and versatility.

hilary sucks at reviewing everything sooo i don't take this review seriously....but i am sooo excited for this game as it is (i've had it reserved for months and refuse any guitar hero game not developed by harmonix), I can't wait. This game is gonna be awesome, and I'm gonna be so good at pretending to play real instruments that the crowd might even go wild.

Ok, well, go cast a spell in real life or go join the military...so many idiots complain about Guitar Hero or Rock Band not being "real instruments" go shoot some real bullets or play some real sports. btw, check out how much this is going for on amazon or ebay...yes, your eyes don't deceive you, it IS in higher demand than the Wii and it is selling for more than the Wii...at least $350 now whereas I am paying $170

Yep the guitar sucks ass for this game, it's horrible. I wish I could use GH3's guitar :( and the drums are really fun, but I don't play the drums and I was getting 99% on like every song with them at Best buy, it's kinda WAYYYY to easy

IMHO, I prefer my real guitar, but I do understand it is alot of fun for ppl who do not play an instrument. LOL, it's funny to watch ppl play these games to me, ... if you actually play lead guitar in a band as I do, button mashing doesnt replicate making music. LOL, I guess real snipers laugh at us gamers ! But cheers, no hate, I hope you guys enjoy it, it'll be a big hit, although I'd rather see you spend this kind of money on an acoustic & a chordbook... so would your future girlfriend !

Except for the fact that if you get into this type of game you may never meet your future girlfriend!

That was the experience of my friend's room mate with Guitar Hero II, anyway.

Then again maybe your future girlfriend will join your band on Xbox Live and you'll fall in love and get married. Um, good luck!

See I do in fact play the guitar and people have this idea that this game really is kind of like playing a guitar. Yes a chord is harder to play, yes it takes a lot more skill to play a guitar, but getting down the timing and building up the strength in your fingers to actually play this game is a useful thing for if you ever do try to play a real guitar. Not to mention their are songs on these games, like 3 that I can't complete their so hard, miserlou can kiss my ass. Lol but my point is that this game is beneficial in a lot of ways hand eye coordination etc. Plus it's fun, it's no fun to sit around and watch one guy at a party who knows how to play, play songs. But it is fun to sit around and watch people battle for higher scores at parties. For the people who don't want to take the years it will take them to get good enough to play 90% of the songs on this game, it's a damn good idea.
