Target removing Manhunt 2 from its stores?
16
Evil Avatar is reporting that local Target stores have been pulling Manhunt 2 off their store shelves in response to the recent events where some hackers uncovered adult content within the game.
Even though the ESRB themselves remained firm with the game's M rating, it looks like Target is taking no chances and is removing the game from its stores.
According to the source, all Target managers are required to stop selling the game, including refusing shipments of the game for all systems. Also Take-Two agreed to take back all unopened copies of the game.

People are so afraid of offending other people. Come on, as if they don't sell movies with boobies here and there...

Yeah, I like Penny Arcade's take on the problem. A lot of gamers don't quite care about the game at all; it is blown way out of proportion. With the money wasted on advocating and defending this stupid problem, they could have donated it to some cause (there are so many in the world that could use more attention and support) and actually made a difference. All this does it take attention away from the stories and news that matters.

Can't believe I am about to say this because it is very cheesy but it looks like target is way off...
This is totally wrong. We should have the choice to buy this game or not.

Not that I was looking forward to this game... wasn't a fan of the first installment of it. However, the game was rated 'M' and as such is supposed to only be sold to adults age 18 or older. I personally don't think they should have had to sensor as much as they did to get it released. If you are a parent and you are letting your child play a game that was given to them rated 'M' or 'AO', then you should be slapped. Plain and simple. If you did not purchase the game for them, then find out who did and slap them. You are the adults...act like it and stop trying to sensor everyone so you don't have to be a parent. In regards to Target... they are idiots. ONLY people with homebrew PSP's can access the sensored material. The sensored material was not hidden as they are implying. The rating was given because they altered programming to "blur" out "graphic" violence so you could not see details very clear. Anyway, this is the impression I have gotten from all the information that I have come across.

How stupid can Rockstar be ? Now, they have a discussion going on about that game. They "trick" the ERSB to get an M rating, now it turns out, that there is still AO contents in the game - which give the people claiming "bribery" even more amunition. I think they are so screwed. They did the whole industry a great disservice. Guess what's happening again. Next Hot-Coffee ?

They didnt "trick" the ESRB, content was REMOVED from the game, the white effect to kills was not the only thing added to make the game M rated. In actuallity they are doing the industry a service by bringing the stagnant and antiquated "AO doent exist" philosophy rule out of hiding and into the public eye. Yes, there are a ton of moronic advocate groups who are very vocal and trying to police the consumers desicions, BUT maybe this will bring out the people wanting to do something about the double standard of ratings embargo that the games industry gets.
Think before you type and do some research; because Ju sir, are an idiot.

Thx, that's a way to see things. Sure. But I guess you didn't understand what I was saying. Looks like they obviously did not remove all AO contents, but tried to get the game to the market without removing all of it. I have really no problem with AO rating. It was rated AO, so ? Why did they try to get an M for it ? Yeah, I know, some console vendors don't want to sell it. My personal opinion, it should be AO, even with the content it has now. This game is just irresponsible. Yell at me as much as you want. Call me an idiot. I don't care. Games like Manhunt should be sold behind the curtain, if at all.

"if at all" are you serious, if at all? Myopic thinking like yours is why there is no accountability for oneselves anymore. Its really sad when YOU think you know whats best for ME. Censor your own household and your repressed kids will thank you later (im sure), but dont you ever, for even a second, think your fear of the world around you should stiffle my exploration of it.
translation: people can make their own decisions on what to consume, if it be porn, violence, or an episode of the Wiggles.
This is why video gaming is still thought of as kids entertainment, because ignorant people hold it back from becoming more.

Explain to me why games like this should be off the table. If you follow that rhetoric then almost all Hollywood movies should be off the shelf because there is often more violence in those movies than in games. Don't bring that weak a$$ argument in here because it will crumble. And another thing whatever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!Everyone should be responsible for what they or their children play. Instead of sitting on their a$$es how about people actually pay attention to what they are buying their underage kids. Damn people....
Nice find Bloodmask.

*SIGH*
I'll never get this game. I loved the first one too and was so looking forward to it.
The combination of stealth, hand to hand executions, gun play, the cover system which was still pretty fresh and great tension and atmosphere. Whats wrong with being a horror fan? The score was so John Carpenter and Brian Cox as The Director was one of the best roles in a game.
Some might have been turned off by the gore but it was all so in context with the game in worked brilliantly. Sure movies like Saw and Hostel can enjoy cinema screenings and full advertising but make a horror game and its like a dirty little secret. Jeese, I finished the first one and never killed anyone so whats the big deal.
Someone hurry up and make a game of Dexter, roaming city, vigilanty sandbox style.

M is for gore while AO is for sex, but Manhunt 2 is not an X-rated love story so I don't understand how ESRB managed to stamp an AO rating on it to begin with. Perhaps there was some hardcore sex involving low-polycount people with no genitalia to actually engage in hardcore sex? But what I do know is that I spent the weekend with Manhunt 2 killing everyone I could get my hands on, yet surprisingly I am still able to distinguish between videogame and reality. Given all the shouting from "the ban wagon" who would have thought?
