We can win Xmas sales race, says Sega

Publisher says upcoming Mario & Sonic title could become Christmas number one

Sega believes that its marketing campaign for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games could help it scoop the Christmas number one.

Speaking to MCV, Sega product manager Phil Lamb said: "This will be a leading title at Christmas. We have fully set our sights on it being the number one Wii title but are confident that this title has the potential to also achieve the top slot in the All Formats chart too."

I can't help but to think Sega is overestimating Mario and Sonic. Million seller? Maybe on the cusp if marketed right.

Mario Galaxy, though, is it a million seller? It could easily sell 10 million!

Maybe next year, Sega.

Mario Galaxy is going to destroy this game in sales this holiday season. Yes, it's the moment we've all been waiting for...Mario vs. Sonic, but I'd rather see this match in the form of Smash Bros. Brawl.

Ya if Sega is betting on huge game sales based on the mass-market appeal of Mario and Sonic coupled w/ the game's association to the Olympics, they're in for a huge surpise if they think the "other" Mario game isn't gonna put a significant dent in their software sales for the holidays.

Number one during Christmas? Did I read that right? They expect to top Mario Galaxy or even older titles like Halo 3 and Bioshock? Nobody ever cared for olympic games and don't think throwing Mario and Sonic in the mix will change that. A collaboration on new platformer would've been far smarter than this drek.
