Does EA Need to Rethink its Wii Strategy?
15
Are titles like Boogie and Playground the right approach on the Wii? Judging by Boogie's lackluster sales in its first month, the answer might appear to be no, and given that Madden on Wii sold nowhere close to its 360, PS3 and PS2 counterparts, should EA rethink its strategy? Analysts take a look...

How about making some non kiddy games. Why does every developer think that only kids stuff will sell on Wii? when in reality it sells like crap. Boogie, horrible sales, they ruined sims to make My sims which wont sell, playground? wtf is that? Give Wii owners GAMES, why not something like Army of Two?

I skipped Maddex '08 on the Wii. Before I could get it, I heard it needed a patch, and if they're going to release an unfinished game, why should I shell out some money. The 360 put everyone to shame with Madden, though, and I have to think EA will consider changing their advertising next year (this year, they make it look like a 360 exclusive).
It's not hard for games to sell well on the Wii. Even Red Steel broke 1 million sold, and it's mediocre at best. It's not going to be like the 360 though, with 60%+ of owners getting one game. It will be more like the PS2, who's best selling game only got to 12% of its owners. The Wii is made to appeal to everyone, not just one group, so sales will be lower compared to a system that is made more for one type of gamer.
All developers, not jsut EA, need to realize, those little party games aren't going to sell well forever. If they think there's so much money in minigame collections, they should go all out on those types of games and not making the big AAA titels. If they want to use the Wii to make money, they need to get creative, use the controls well, and make a game that can appeal to as many different people as possible.

5 - Just for the record..
..none of those 'kid' games were really advertised anywhere.
EA just needs to get their marketing right, and the sales will come.
Besides, isn't it a bit too early to be judging their decision?
I mean, c'mon. Half the people that bought the Wii just own WiiSports and Zelda.
Give them time to realize what else is available on the system. Yeesh.

5.1 - Err...
Those two titles you mentioned are Nintendo games. Most people buy Nintendo systems to play Nitendo games.

Agreed 5.1.
When people buy Wii they are thinking about Nintendo games like Mario, Metroid, Zelda etc. Not a slapped together quick to make a buck game like Boogie. EA was hoping to cash in quick on the Wii's popularity and it backfired.

Imho EA does not need to rethink their Wii strategy, they only need to stop releasing crappy games . period.
Boogie is a crappy game, cause void the wagglewand feature it lacks ANY gameplay and looks ugly, hence the bad reviews and sales. It's obviously a title aimed to make fast $$$ on the Wii crowd cause they lack games. But after the 6th or so "partygame" in a row you have had your fill.
But at least EA does not release crap of the level Jowood does.

I think Red Steel only sold well because people were initially picking up their Wii (maybe a few hardcore gamers folded and got the Wii too) and wanted another game besides Wii sports. Now that people have the Wii, I think sales overall will go down. Judging by the 6.0 rating on Red Steel... I think I'm right.
