Metroid Prime 3 Outsells BioShock - Over 400,000 Copies

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption bests former overall sales leader BioShock in its first week of release, becoming the week's single best-selling software title across all platforms in the United States. With few major Wii releases on the horizon, Corruption's place atop the chart is likely to remain uncontested over the next several weeks as well. Just because the Wii has sold the most doesn't negate the PS3 as the most powerful console. The Wii has sold loads because it's cheap and is seen to the casual audience as a trendy gadget.

By all means the sales don't make the Wii the best console around. because technically it definately isn't, but it makes it look that way. Look past the sales figures and look at what you get for your money, then look back a few years and you'll see that even the N64 can beat the Wii graphically on some games. For example, Crusin' the Wii title of the series looks really bad, I'm not just saying it has bad bits here and there, the N64 and Wii titles look identical which is a sign that the Wii is holding tech back rather than propelling it into this new generation.

I have no problem with the DS, it's great and deserves its top spot.

As for the game outselling Bioshock, does this mean Bioshock is worse than Corruption? No of course not.

It's the showing of a single game for a console compared to a variety from the competitors. Metroid 3 will sell tons for a while and when it gets old the Wii will have a new title to keep the fans happy but there'll be a long wait for a game that hasn't got the familiar Nintendo family characters painted all over it. Show me a good future Wii title that hasn't got the same characters from the past in it then I may consider the Wii being a better console.

Currently the Wii is just offering recycled crap, sorry if that sounds harsh but that's what's been admitted by many dev teams (not in those exact words obviously lol), they have admitted that they can pump out cheap games for the Wii and make easy money even though the titles aren't very good. It's the truth, Nintendo will get very rich and claim to have won the next-gen 'war' even though the offerings are everything other than next gen...

11 - The power of great sequels...

The problem with bioshock was the fact that its a new ip so it has to open ground, while metroid prime is the conclusion of two prior great games. This is the same reason Halo3 and MGS4 are gonna sell faster than an umbrella on a rainy season.

Edit: Sorry i wasnt aware it was a sequel if so my bad, i havent played it yet but i thought it was an original new game.

I have both Bioshock and MP3 (yes, I'm a wii60-er, looking to add the PS3 as soon as it hits $400), currently playing through MP3 as I beat Bioshock last week. The controls on MP3 are fun and different (my first FPS for Wii), but I am dissapointed that the game has taken much more of a linear feel as opposed to the more open ended world the series has been known for. Plus, it hurts it -for me- to be trailing the wonderful experience of Bioshock, which I believe really pushed the boundaries of what a videogame can be (i.e. thought-provoking, immersive, and fun).

Regardless, they are both great games that get this gamer's seal of approval. The only question is will they be enough to fill the gap to Halo3 or will I have to breakdown and get a PS3 for some Warhawk mulitplayer mayhem. This is going to be a great fall/winter for gamers.

He is comparing Bioshock's opening week numbers (week ending Aug 26th) and assuming it sold 400k again this week (week ending Sept 2nd). So pea brain sees that Metroid sold more then Bioshock this week so it must have sold over 400k! Too bad the idiot doesn't realize games usually drop to 20-30% of what they sold the first week the following week. It is unlikely that Bioshock even sold 150k copies this week. I'm not saying MP3 didn't sell 400k but there is absolutely no proof at the moment.

First off, the article never said anything about Metroid besting Bioshock this week only. Quit making sh!t up.

For Bioshock to be OVERALL sales leader(not sales leader in the week of so and so, but overall), it's TOTAL sales so far have to be compiled, not week by week sales. Bioshock likely got a huge number of sales on its first week, then they waned (just like you said). For metroid to, in it's first week, best Bioshock , Metroid would have to have sold what Bioshock has so far. Since Bioshock has sold about 400,000 copies, it is only logical to say that Metroid has sold OVER 400,00 copies and no less.

Try to read and understand sh!t before you jump to calling people morons and pea brains. Maybe you're the moron.
