Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption - Perfect Scores (10/10)

According the latest word on the net, the first official review of the upcoming Wii exclusive game, Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption, is in from Nintendo Power. They give the game a perfect score of 10/10.

Reasons :
- First Wii game that you couldn't confuse graphically with last-gen
- Great artwork
- Incredible feeling of immersion
- Flawless level design; tons of freedom to explore but you always have the feeling that you're at the right place at the right time. Sounds like the game does a remarkable job of nudging you as to what to do without giving it away.
- Best platforming design in a first person shooter
- Gestures for pulling levers, etc markedly improved from earlier demos

Metroid is about story, and exploration elements. I'm guessing you never even played a Metroid game...

Sorry, I'm a bit dizzy from reading the 2nd most positive review I have ever read (next to Ocarina of Time) on IGN about BioShock... I think that singleplayer gaming is an experience that has not been and cannot be replaced by multiplayer. If multiplayer was left out to create a more robust and enjoyable experience in singleplayer, then so be it.

Wait, even I can't say this with a striaght face. Nintendo Power probably creamed themselves over Donkey Kong Jr. Math or Gyromite.

I think Corruption will be a great game. I just don't trust NP's reviews for this type of thing.

First off, in its own time period a game can get a 10 out of 10.

Why? Because games keep getting better over time in graphics etc. That's why a 10 now can be a perfect NOW. A 10 in about 2 years time is a different story. Its not like a game with a 9 now is the same as a game with a 9 that got it 5 years ago.

Thus: yeah a game should be able to receive a 10 out of 10. Why otherwise would that mark be there?

Second: trilogy or not. A great game is a great game. First in line, or third. Doesn't matter. If it's good, it's good.

Last: no online/multiplayer. Also: nowadays online/multiplayer has almost become 'standard', but if a game is really, really good in singleplayer, it still should have the change on 10 out of 10.

Bioshock has a single player I've not experienced many times in my gaming life (at least from the demo up till now). No multiplayer though. But I don't care. The 10's it gets are in place.

If Metroid Prime 3 is such a game, it deserves a 10. I am glad for the Wii, because there wasn't much up till now.

That being said I am happy to see it get a good score and can't wait to play Metroid Prime 3. I just now need to find a Wii at the store to play this game and other ones too.

Nintendo Power's not quite as biased as everyone thinks. I believe they gave Mario Strikers Charged around a 7.5, which is on par with what GameSpot gave it, if I remember correctly. So at least that goes to say that even a game with Mario's name slapped on it doesn't automatically get better treatment. And as far as the "no game deserves a 10/10" comment goes, I disagree. What I believe is that no game is "PERFECT," but a 10/10 means that the game was "all it could be," in a sense. Corruption definitely looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome game, even though I was thoroughly disappointed with the announcement that there'd be no multiplayer. I'll be picking this one up on day one.

i'm a huge nintendo fanboy... but if this game gets a 10/10, halo 3 should probably get a 12/10, because the single player probably won't be as good as metroid prime 3's, but halo 3's multiplayer experience will add so much to the game's depth, whereas mp3 has no online multiplayer.

question: metroid prime 2 has local multiplayer -- are they going to have that in prime 3?

11.1 - Don't compare Halo to Metroid Prime

They're fundamentally different experiences. Look at Metroid Prime 2 v. Halo 2- Halo had like an 8 hour campaign, Metroid Prime 2 had like a 30 hr campaign (I think). MP is almost about puzzle solving first and shooting second, you can't say the same for Halo.

Metroid Prime is very single-player centric, whereas Halo is a balance of single and multiplayer elements. There's no way you can justify the statement that Halo is like Metroid's singleplayer with a multiplayer element added; it's not true.

Great games coming all around alot of 9s and 10s. If bioshock got perfect reviews i dont see why this game shouldnt since they are both singleplayer only (which is the way most games were a few generations ago so i dont see the fuss). The problem comes when rating multiplayer only games like warhawk which this generation are setting presedent.

now, i don't doubt that Metroid Prime 3 is going to rock (i *LOVED the first Prime game; didn't get to play the second), but Nintendo Power is, in my opinion, *NOTORIOUS for scoring Nintendo games with insanely high scores.

i think i'll just wait for a few more sources before i have an opinion on this (and maybe some hands on time, if my friend brings over his Wii when MP3 comes out).

I think people have a point with the backtracking. I know Metroid is all about the backtracking, but I've never enjoyed it. (I've never played a Prime game other than Hunters).

If you're going back to a planet to look for something, that can be okay, but in hunters the whole game was just "Go look for stuff" and that was it. Metroid deserves a better story than that. If they improved the story for number 3, the backtracking will feel like it is less random.

But I digress.

Edit: Also, I think you should take Nintendo Powers review seriously, in that it ~IS~ a good game, but dont be surprised if the range on reviews is 8 - 10. Obviously, unless they missed something, you're not going to see a 5.

i can understand why people get annoyed with backtracking in these games. its like, i have already been here, why would i want to spend 30 minutes crossing all the way back here once i get the power bomb just to get five more missiles? well, the thing is, there are also people like me who dont mind crap like that because the level design in most of these games is quite intriguing.

Has never been an online game and i bet you most fans who played all the one player games skipped out on the DS one. Not to mention the one on the DS Metroid game had a uninspired one player and was very linear, Online is not important, i don't even care much for online muti-player games, i would hate to see the Metroid games cater to the online fan base cause that would be going away from the foundation of most Metroid games. If you want a online mult-player wait for Metal of Honor on the wii that game is going to be 32 players online. This game looks amazing it looks really good and from what i've seen, the game the controls are spot on, if it got a ten i think its justified, its just what they think.

friggn sweet. i cant wait to play this game. and who the fu*k cares if there is no online multi player? I've played through all of the other metroid games with the exception of the DS ones, and never once have i thought, "oh gee, ho hum, oh gosh! this would sure be better if i could do this with someone else because me don't get games that me play by my self. it gets so scarry!"
seriously, to everybody who clicked on this review just to yap about how you cant play online death matches, rather than see why this game got a 10/10, wtf. go away. I'm positive that this will not be the first great review for this game. Hell! when those other reviews come out i bet I will see you here blabin on about the same old crap!

From the games radar videos, you could say it is a pretty good game. Yeah its the first Wii title that doesnt look too last gen. Maybe for many casual players Metroid Prime will be their first taste of hardcore gaming. That is a good thing
