JAPAN: Nintendo Parties As Wii Outsells PS3 Three To One

Mario Party 8 scoops top spot in charts as Wii and DS shift huge numbers

Nintendo's continued dominance continues this week in Japan, according the latest figures from MCV's exclusive media partner Enterbrain.

The current top ten selling software titles are as follows:

1. Mario Party 8 (Nintendo)
2. J-League Winning Eleven 2007: Club Championship (Konami)
3. Hot Shots Golf (Sony)
4. Subarashiki Kono Sekai/It's a Wonderful World (Square Enix)
5. Wii Sports (Nintendo)
6. Jikkyo Powerful Pro Yakyu 14 (Konami)
7. Wii Play (Nintendo)
8. Face Training (Nintendo)
9. Zelda: Phantom Houglass (Nintendo)
10. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo

i doubt it. when super smash comes out the numbers will probably be back up there but then again when metal gear solid 4 and final fantasy 13 come out it will be a completely different story

At least PS3 is rising. Last time it was 4 to 1. And remember that Wii has all of its big games like Mario and Zelda while PS3 is yet to get its FFXIII, MGS4, GT5 and others.

Is Wii demand still exceeding supply in Japan? If so, then the Wii selling 3:1 to PS3 vs 4:1 previously would indicate that either Wii production is slowing, PS3 demand is rising, or a combination of both.

It might be that they are shift consoles around different regions to meet demand. It might be better to look at PS3 vs. Wii sales on global basis over the year. I think you can get historical data on vgchartz.

possible start a flame war but whatever, this story isn't important we already know how well the Wii dominates Japan. In America people like to place themselves in a "hardcore gamer" or "casual gamer" but in japan, a game is a game and if its fun people will play. The same people who play brain age are the same people who will play Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy, in Japan. The games that come out in Japan for the Wii cater to their audience more. Not to mention Japan gets a lot of games that we don't get here, i have to import Naruto Shippuden and Bleach games from Japan because we still don't have them in America.
