Manhunt 2 "not an image issue" for Nintendo, says Fils-Aime
15
Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken out for the first time on the controversy surrounding Rockstar title Manhunt 2.
Speaking to Newsweek Fils-Aime said, "This is not an image issue. Wii welcomes games rated E, T and M. We haven't approved AO-rated games. I doubt we ever will."
According to Fils-Aime, Manhunt 2 is "a game rated outside our spectrum, outside any manufacturer's spectrum".

Unless it's PC.
I'm suprised that Sony was so quick to join with Nintendo on the whole we don't put AO games on our system, but we haven't heard anything from the Xbox crew. Seeing that Xbox is so into the PC world (it is Microsoft) that they haven't issued a statement about how they might consider putting AO games on the 360. Not the normal porno AO games but the violent ones like Manhunt 2.

MS rep told me once they only do E-M rated games. Why...because a AO game can not be sold in Gamestop/EBgames, Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R us, Best Buy and Circuit City.
You then only have maw and pop stores that can sell them and that too can be regulated by state laws.
Here we can't sell adult content games unless your a Adult Book Store. Basically meaning you have to go to a porno store to buy MH2...not good combo.
Online sales is basically all you can have then..which can also be regulated by individual state laws.
RS can appeal..maybe and get a M rating. (it looks M rated stuff..I mean postal stuff looked worse)
Or censor a few things and resubmit for a M rating.
If you can buy unrated movies...why not unrated games?

I'm Funny? How? ok I admit I haven't worded it in the best possible way, but all I was saying Is this bloke is full of sh*t, Nintendo have always tried to avoid violent games wherever possible, prefering stuff like fat plumbers who bounce on mushrooms heads, or pokemon, or anything where they can say 'look we don't do violent games'. There are a lot of parents who will look at nintendo and opt to buy their products for their kids rather than say mortal kombat, or any game that has adult themes. Its the way Nintendo have branded themselves, and its what parents would prefer for their kids.

3.2 - Well,
I think everyone who disagrees with you is acknowledging that Nintendo has gone through a lot of change, and you seem to be looking at them as though we're at the height of the NES/SNES era. With the Wii especially, Nintendo realized that cutting off the hardcore, mature market would absolutely obliterate their sales. So games like RE4 and Killer7 have come around for the GameCube that are some of the bloodiest available for any platform.
Also, the old Nintendo president, who was almost what you'd call a "Mature game nazi", was replaced by Satoru Iwata. To Iwata, image is important, but he doesn't see M-rated games as a threat to the image of Nintendo.

5.2 - PS360WII you didnt miss it....
I haven't actually heard of a Microsoft statement for this, probably because it wasn't going to be released on the 360 anyway.
Anyways why should they tone it down? I think it should be each individual persons right to play games that they deem suitable for themselves, not some clueless halfwit (who never plays games) saying you can't play it because its too violent.

I hear ya Dark_Overlord they don't even play the games they just watch clips from some of the game. That's bull! That's why I hope they do win the appeal so that the original game they made can be put out for us to enjoy not a watered down version because of these silly 'feel good' polices that are popping up left and right now-a-days

MS never had a statement for MH2 cause its not announced for XBOX.. but its in their policy..
also NINTENDO as a DEV does not make extremely violent games.. cause they wanna make money on the WHOLE market.. plz tell me that GALAXY doesn't appeal to EVERYONE under the sun.. i mean a few will not like it but if ur 8 u can have fun with it and same if ur 28... thats nintendo's way of doing things.. METROID is a lil more mature but anyone can play it really..
but they never seemed to me to not want M games on their system.. sure there was the MK issue where they sensored that but that was SNES.. LONG TIME AGO... now its all pretty much fair game.. KILLER7.. RE4 (was GC only) those are some not so family friendly games.. so u have variety and the variety will carry to WII.. i mean NO MORE HEROS boasts about being more violent then MH2.. but i guess cause it looks kinda cell shaded it may pass the AO rating.. and i doubt it has a adult movie theater level where a adult movie plays in the background (i read that on 1 of the MH2 reviews..i think from CVG or 1UP)
and even if Nintendo allowed MH2 to be released only the hardcore of the hardcore would get it since u can't get it ANYWHERE pretty much that is mainstream.. so it was be a horrible buisiness move for R* however then they could have 2 version where 1 is AO and a sensored version for the retail market.
ALSO REGGIE is really good at covering his ass.. its amazi-zing.. (i never knew athelete had 3 sylabyls.. ATH-A-LEET)
