Rockstar will appeal the Manhunt 2 ban

By now everybody in the world has probably heard about the Manhunt 2 ban. The BBFC has refused to rate it in the UK and the game's been given an Adults Only rating in the US, meaning Sony and Nintendo won't go anywhere near it.

Of its decision the BBFC said, "Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing." Basically you don't do anything apart from killing people all the time.

Someone who dosen't like big brother government doing the Riverdance on his rights. Well played sir. Well played indeed. This matter is much more important than most people think it is. This is the first in many battles to have total creative freedom in the industry. Wether you like the game or not is mute, It is about the big picture. By the way I am #40 on the list.

1.2 - Big Brother

Before I heard of the ban, I didn't care about it because I don't really like the game. Now I want to buy it to show support for Rockstar and anti-censorship. As long as it comes out un-censored, I want this game. Game sounds gross, but don't ban the game or refuse to rate it. If it's disgustingly gross, I can decide if I want it or not.

To be honest i really don't know how much i'll want to play this game, maybe rent it for a day. But this game sounds truly grotesque. They still have no right to stop the game from coming out in original form.

You don't have AO ratings because you have a different ratings board for video games. Your rating system refused to even rate the game. Your government and the Irish government banned the game. The Australian government will probably ban it, and the German government wouldn't surprise me if they did. So don't lecture us about freedom of speech.

I've been to the BBFC and its awesome there, I reckon they will allow Manhunt 2 to be sold in the UK but I also reckon they will delay the release of Manhunt 2.

I have a question: Why appeal for UK ban while the real problem is Sony/Nintendo's policy against AO games.
I even if the game is unbanned in UK, it still wont be released for Sony/N platforms.

F this game. Anyone who finds pleasure in raping women (or men) and beating them over the head is fk'd up. I mean, come on. It's one thing to play a war game and kill Nazis, or kill aliens or homicidal maniacs, but to beat someone over the head and rape them? that's sick. No i'm not some Bible thumping goddamn Christian. I just think it's repulsive. Sure you can tell me "then don't play the game" but who in their right mind would think of this filth? Who in their right mind would want players to act out these scenes?

It's one thing to see it in a movie, but to act it out in a video game is a completely different scenerio. Furthermore, Rockstar should just abandon the last generation format (Wii included).

Do you have any concrete proof of said raping or are you just basing this off of what people are saying in the forums?

Have you played the game yourself? Have you played the original to have some sort of sense as to how brutal the second one could be?

Few people have actually reviewed this game and given their own opinions about it. I for one do not consider opinions as actual proof. Play the game yourself (Manhunt 2 or the original) then give YOUR opinion about it. After that go ahead and call it a twisted hot piece of turd if you'd like.

I am not going to give my opinion about it (positive or negative) because I have never played either of the two and I cannot rightfully say if it is horribly disgusting or not.

Did u even read the article??? Basically they said all that you do is kill people which you do in most other games. (Brutally I bet though) But there is no mention of making the player rape anyone or anything like that.

What we need to realise here is that as a country, we have had in the past very strict censorship laws. It has only been recently that hardcore porn has been allowed to be sold legally in licensed shops.

I for one do not agree with the ban, BUT I have to question the motives for creating such a game. This is essentially, removing what story there is a 'snuff' game. In fact I don't think anyone can even say it is anything else, even with the story intact. The publishers/developers have IMO, made a concerted effort to be incredibly controversial in the hopes that the bad publicity would help sell the game. In a genre of entertainment that is desperately trying to become an art form, this sort of game does nothing but push back all the advances that other incredible games have done so far.

Incredible violence in context to the situation, is perfectly acceptable in a given situation, but where it is very little context I end up thinking the reason for it is to gain bad press, thus help market the game. I also wonder about how someone can find fun in playing a game where you do nothing but to kill for killings sake - I dunno maybe it is just me.

As I have said previously, I didn't like the first game - I thought it was a poor sneak'em up with fatalities included, but the voice acting was superlative.

rating a game " AO " limits it to adults only, so why should it be banned? its being rated and should not be played by kids, but adults can play it so why ban it?
As a grown up you know the difference between fiction and reality if not then its not the games foul, but infact its the person him self.

i remember 2 germans pretending to be sephiroth and some other FF character and killed people.......and we all know FF was just about button pressing via "menus". and it suprised me that they didn't tried to ban Final fantasy.
The one who is fVcked up in the head can also be affected by movies/books(hell i even remember this documentary about a guy who loved reading vampire stories and because of that he believed he was one and killed his best friend to become a " vampire" )
