Manhunt 2: What's happened so far... Sony will also not allow the game on their systems.

I'm writing this article out myself so that others won't be so confused as to what has actually happened with Manhunt 2, so I will write it out in a list.

It seems very likely that the game will have to be heavily edited otherwise it can't come out for any of the systems it is currently slated for. The other option is to cancel the game, but with the costs involved I think Rockstar will opt for editing the game.

i just don´t understand so much ban an hate on videogames, some movies are much more violent and gore. It´s like the fact that a person under 16 can´t work and make some money, on factorys, but persons under 16 can work and make money on movies, soaps, singing, or playing sports. Are we on a free world or aren´t we?

Yes, movies are often a lot more graphic compared to games, but we have to remember that in game world, it is often YOU who decide if you crack someones skull or not. YOU experience it and so much more intensively than compared to movies. In movies you can only watch, in games you can plan out every move you make and the way you kill/hurt/beat up/shoot/stab. There is a difference.

I can't understand why Sony would not want to allow adults only game in their system if they used live porn at launch parties in some countries. Porn/sex/violence suits their "this is living".. it might be brutal but hey, it's life. We are beasts.

In short R* had to have known the impact of this they probably already have an edited version that was planned all along. This version was released to give the game some hype. If not they are truly idiots and deserve their financial woes. /rant

And don't give me that "your actions" excuse because empathy that we feel when we watch movies is just as strong. have any of you people seen the movie "Hostel"? Even if the point of the game was to make you feel sick it sort of desensitizes you to a point. Our society just isn't ready for that I guess. With more realistic feel and now control mechanisms I think that it would be labeled a murder simulator. I'm not one for censorship but I think the government's responsibility is to the people and it seems as if the collective governments think that this game shouldn't see the light of day as it is.

Yeah I understand what you mean, because a lot more Movies are more violent than any game, but I think it is because you are doing the action in the game, but when you watch a movie you're just watching it. Or something like that. It must be very violent to have been banned though, I would like to have seen some of the gameplay footage that cause the ban.

I read this on BBC news:

"The original Manhunt game caused huge controversy and was blamed for the murder of Stefan Pakeerah.

The boy was stabbed and beaten to death in Leicester in February 2004.

Stefan Pakeerah was murdered in 2004

His parents believe the killer, Warren LeBlanc, 17, was inspired by the game."

People seem to blame games to try and get a lesser sentence. Just because you play a game doesn't mean you will get influenced by it, otherwise we would have millions of murderers influenced by GTA.

6 - Banning stuff is just stupid

It's idiotic to ban a game, even if it's disgustingly violent, just don't buy it. AO means you have to be 18 anyways, so what's the big deal? At 18, you can decide for yourself if you want to play gross games or not.

I understand Nintendo a bit, because it's like the friend codes, where they're catering to parents of small children, but Sony, and escpecially countries shouldn't ban something that doesn't have any lethal power.

So the Wii will have Manhunt 2 but the PS2/PSP will not? Anyone who has said that the Wii is a "kiddy console" must be having a hard time w/ that foot in their mouth.

EDIT:

I stand corrected. On one hand, I was hoping to to play the game in its original form but on the other hand, I may never get to play the game unless its rating gets "downgraded" to M. Hopefully all consoles for which this title was intended will be able to see the release of this game. Maybe the PC will get the AO version?

In my opinion rockstar is getting what they deserve. They make graphic games that are as over the top as possible just to get free publisity. I love me some gore (GOW gore rocks) but rockstar tries too hard too often to push the envelope. The game comes off less like an adult thing and more like a teenage boy thing. Its reminds me of all the remade horror movies. The original texas chainsaw had very little blood or gore yet it was twice as scary as the remake.

i heard that the whole decapitated woman/rape thing was a lie started in a forum somewhere as a joke, so i dont think thats actually part of the game.
i really dont agree with this at all. i think its stupid that so much hype has been created over it.
i think that it should incorporate some sort of parental guidance thing where you have to proove your age before you play the game.

17 - Censorship...

to me is wrong on all levels. Rockstar's games have always pushed the envelope, but they've always had great stories of morality wrapped up in violence and scandel. The thing that people really dont like is the fact that they are basically social commentaries and so we are forced to see the horrible things that we ourselves are capable of doing. Like someone said before, if videogames really caused violence then our world would be getting progressively violent which is contrary to what has actually happened. At least in the US violent crime has dropped significantly since the 70's. Does this mean Pong was the most violent game of all time? Obviously not, the fact of the matter is people want a scape goat, they dont want to take responsibility for their own actions and thoughts and so its easy to blame an edgy videogame. The first manhunt was totally messed up and violent but it didnt turn me into a killer. It didnt make me think about murder, in fact it kinda grossed me out. But at the same time it was a brilliant game with an incredible story and some of the best controls ever. If people cant seperate fantasy from reality then they need to be locked away because there is something psychologically wrong with them. Its not the videogames. The governement should never be responsible for what we can and cannot see because then they can take larger and larger liberties in what they deem to be appropriate. This is a free speech issue more than anything. If some of you dont feel like you're responsible enough to play the game then DONT BUY IT. Thats the issue here, if people cant trust themselves to not be influenced by something like a videogame then go get yourself checked into a psych ward because you are a dangerous human being. You want to know what really causes violence then look at your environment. Poverty is directly related to violence. Low levels of education are directly related to violence. A bad home life and bad parents are directly related to violence. There has been absolutely no proven link between media and violence and if there were we would have to stop producing television shows, films, videogames, and stop showing the freaking news. This is BS and you all know it. It basically goes into the idea that parents are just too damn lazy to pay attention to what their children are doing. Adults should be able to handle this game, if they cant, then I'm sure their two steps from prison anyways. Have some guts and stand up for your RIGHTS! Cause the more you conceed to the powers that be, the more they're going to take until you've got nothing.

i don't understand..

HOSTEL has a SEQUAL
SAW is a TRILOGY
and same goes for THE HILLS HAVE EYES

and i though HOSTEL was 1 of the most graphic movies i ever seen.. especially the EYEBALL part or how the chick jumps in front of the train and SPLAT.. and yes they had NUDITY and strong Sexual content (by TV standards)

this is everything that MANHUNT 2 is from what i've been hearing and well to be honest its kinda dumb that this is getting banned everywhere..

These politicians probably would ban Mario and Halo if they could get away with it.. they are just moths attracted to the JT light.. they all will get burned in the end..

I want to see 1 politician that actually TOUCHED A VIDEO game within the last year.. f***ing pigs in the government make me so mad how ignorant they are..

I know policy is policy for SONY, MS, and NINTENDO so i'm okay with them.. thats just rules set out a long time ago and they seem fair enough. its like i have a rule.. NO EATING IN MY CAR.. EVER.. yet sometimes that rule is broken and i am pretty pissed.. so i get that..
But the ESRB knew what rating this game AO would do.. and i think its tied to some politics cause douchebags like JT keep pushing this.

I will celebrate the game we catch that bastard with a hooker in a hotel room doing some blow.. i would personally want to ask him if he seen this in GTA or something.. and we all have our dirty little secrets and i'm sure JT has some thats hes not proud of that would go against his "morals" politicians make smear campaigns all the time.. we should band together and make one too.. hell if we all chip in lets say 5 bux we will have a pretty decent budget. and i'm sure between all of us we can dig up the real dirt on JT.

and HOW COME THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T PLAY GAMES GET TO DECIDED WHAT GAMERS CAN PLAY
