Midway to 1UP: "Give us better scores, or we won't support you"

1UP Editor, Andrew Pfister explains in his blog post why they are late with the review of Mortal Kombat Armageddon for Wii:

Because Midway didn't send the game to us for review. Apparently there were some bruised egos over there. Or a singular bruised ego. We're not exactly sure. Someone felt left out when Milky talked about top-tier fighting games in some preview a while back and neglected to mention MK, and EGM didn't score previous Mortal Kombat games as high as some of our competitors did. So Midway has decided to not send us review code at all as some sort of punishment. The message? "Give us better scores, or we won't support you."

Agreed, None of the new MK game have impressed me really. Every time I played a MK on Xbox or Ps2, I just wanted to bust out a Sega Genesis. I have very high hopes for UT3 though. I can't wait for that game.

No surprise there considering EGM has been biased towards MK games for a quite a while. They put the series down every chance they get. Look at their reaction to this situation, attacking Midway instead. EGM loves the low blows. It's ran by a bunch of immature morons now.

Both sides are terribly stupid. Midway is utterly dumb for this action and 1UP is even dumber for posting this and telling everyone. They hurt the trust between Publishers and Game sites/critics. Dont they (1UP) realise that by writing this, they are losing all UT3, Stranglehold and other Midway stuff coverage?? And Midway, They should stop making crappy MK games like MKArmageddon (And porting it to Wii!!) and start making realy dark MK games for next gen.

i really dont get why the mass is getting their opinion from websites who give reviews. One can think it sucks while the other thinks its a good game.
I dont read many reviews simply because i have my own opinion about a game , because a website says it sucks doesnt mean i will say the same.

i agree with MK_Red, both sides are terribly stupid for their act.

14 - Stubborn PR people...

I think there's room for misinterpretation with Andrew's blog - the PR guy simply refused to send code, but which doesn't mean "we won't support you" in the sense that the "we'll stop advertising with you" usually means.

But props to Andrew for sticking to his guns anyway. The software publishers who subscribe to these childish tactics and refuse to take the good with the bad ought to be named and shamed more often.

rediculous. A game reviewer should be totally unbiased and able to give his opinion. I have to agree though, that to publicise this is even worse. And in regards to the quality of Midway games I feel they have declined. The main problem is that some 2d games don't translate well to 3D. I'm sure the hardcore fans of Mortal Kombat would agree that MK1, 2, and 3 were far superior to anything released after that.
Unfortunately the only companies that seem to remember that 2D fighters are the best are Capcom and SNK.
