NowGamer: New Super Mario Bros Wii Review

NowGamer: As much as we hate to begin a review with a question or comment framed in the resoundingly negative, we have to ask. How can a franchise continue to thrive with such little actual innovation?

1.1 - Hmm
Funny you would say such a thing when I was thinking the exact same thing. This guy gave it a 7.7 because of the zoom problem and I'm not really sure what he was expecting them to add other than some new suits? Maybe a mini gun that shoots ham? Mario is visiting it's old roots. Mario was never made to be easy, it was made to have hard jumps and Oh Damn moments. 2 players having to stay in tune with each other so they don't touch or go too far is what a Mario co-op game should be like. Using big words to review a game is not impressive my friend. Maybe if you were doing a press conference for NASA but not on N4G.

2 - In regards to the question...
"How can a franchise continue to thrive with such little actual innovation? "

Apparently for a long long long time, look at...oh I dunno, practically EVERY sequel ever made. More of the same but more is what makes a sequel a sequel, and only in cases where the first one wasn't good (Red Steel) does a sequel vastly change (Red Steel 2).

My goodness, if I read any more of this sites reviews, there better be some ridiculously low scores. Modern Warfare 2 also better get a low score for not "innovating" past Call of Duty 4.

MW2 is getting ridiculous high scores with no innovation at all but to be fair nowgamer.xbox360 gave it 8.8. nowgamer.ps3 scored MW2 with 9.4 though. Yeah I know it is crazy.

When was the last 2D Mario Platformer on a Nintendo home console anyway?

It's purposely revisiting the old formula.

6 - SUPER MARIO WORLD..
Was, and still is the greatest 2d plat-former of all time, and if this is more of the same, then bring it. I will love this.

People are calling this SMW 2. I didn't really love Yoshi's Island, at the time, so im more than willing to think of it as such.

7 - i think newsmbwii should have been a wiiware game......
as a rule nintendo should make its 2d "retro style" games wiiware. When i first saw this at E3 I thought it was going to be a wiiware game. It seems to fit all the criteria. Maybe the mulitplayer element didnt allow it to be but it should have been and price at $10. I really believe nintendo could have done this but they new they could sale tons on discs at $50.

Except it's not a tiny little game that people aren't willing to spend $50 on....in fact, by the looks of it, it's quite the opposite.

Screw the trolls. The majority of reviewers are going to rate this as a single player experience, and most likely they will only marginally take account of multiplayer aspects, so scoring lower than 8 is obviously a really dumb error.

NowGamer is probably pissed that they had to review a Mario game after playing MW2. Of course this game should get low-scores.

Forget it, it's still a purchase for me.
