Can New Super Mario Bros. Wii Outsell Modern Warfare 2?

Kombo.com: Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime said on GameTrailers TV that he thinks the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii can outsell the massively anticipated Modern Warfare 2 under certain circumstances. He said this while also giving respect to the competing game.

In an interview with GTTV host Geoff Keighly, Fils-Aime said that he thinks New Super Mario Bros. Wii can outsell a single SKU of Modern Warfare 2 by the end of January 2010. "On a single platform...absolutely," said Fils-Aime. "I say that unequivocally."

"You've got to give me the entire holiday selling season," said Fils-Aime. "Let's take it all the way through the January NPD data." This is probably taking into account the nature of the sales of Nintendo's successful first party games.

Of course it can. 360 fans like bragging about sales, but what they don't realize is the Wii's games sell a LOT more. Halo 3 is nothing compared to the Wii's best sellers.

The Halo franchise isn't in the top 35 highest selling franchises in the world, and none of the Halo games are in the top 25 highest sold games in the world.

Halo has a loooong way to go before it tops the Wii first party games (in terms of sales).

MW2 should sell good, but it won't top NSMBW by a long shot. Too many casuals will buy it.

u gotta know this generation is mostly about being online, so very likely ppl will b playin this game more than mario, n Mario will see more returned copies to game shops, games that are very much multiplayer will be played more than mario, trust me dude, Mario is more played on the NES, SNES and N64 than on the Wii!!!!

5 or 10 years from now there won't be one person playing MW2 and people will still speed run New Super Mario Bros. The dolphin emulator makes it extremely likely level editing and general hacking communities will pay attention to this game for years, particularly the Mario AI communities trying to expand their methods to controlling 4 players at once cooperatively.

MW2 will have the better sales pre-Christmas, but 6 months from now NSMBW will be outselling MW2 and MW2 will never catch up after that.

If even 1/3 of the people who bought new SMB ds buy it then it will still dominate. It'll either be strong and consistent sales or slow burn until ridiculous numbers. Either way Nintendo wins big. I know i'll be getting it.

7 - it will outsell MW2
if you look at the console sales for wii. they are still in first place and xbox can`t even catch up with wii, also ps3 won't too. And there alot of casual gamers for the wii. Also from 2 or 3 years from now, you will keep seeing wii fit or wii sports resort and mario kart ds came back in top sales the last 8 months ago and its like 2 or 3 years old.
