IGN: R-Type Review

R-Type is a classic shooter design -- that's undeniable. It blasted its way into the arcade scene in 1987, then received tons of different ported versions in the years that followed -- there are literally over a dozen different re-creations of this same game. The SEGA Master System version that's being emulated for this latest Virtual Console re-release was the first home console edition to be made available in the United States, which means that it might have a chance to grab some downloads with an appeal to the nostalgia of old-school SEGA gamers.

Those are the only people who should consider spending five dollars on this download, though. Everyone else is much better off stepping up their spending to eight bucks, to be able to download the TurboGrafx-16 version instead
