What the sales of Sega's big 3 tell us about the Wii

TVGB: "Of all the publishers currently selling titles for the Wii, it was Sega who perhaps took the biggest risk by publishing 3 decidedly hardcore games on the console. Of the trio, the gratuitously violent and cel-shaded MadWorld seemed the title most likely to flop at retail, and Overkill, a new edition to the House of the Dead series (which had already seen success on the console), seemed the most likely to succeed. The Conduit's success seemed largely dependent upon how well it would be reviewed by the gaming media - mainly because it was a new IP from a developer with a questionable track record. So how well did these titles sell, and what does it tell us about the market for traditional games on the Wii?"

The sales of Sega's "big three" says they probably could've picked some different games.

MadWorld went the way of Okami (although I wouldn't say it's as good a game). The Clover/Platinum folks just have a knack for making niche games.

HotD: Overkill is a rail shooter on a system with a glut of rail shooters. That it turned a profit (after it had a reasonable amount of polish to call it an A-release...just not AAA) is a good sign.

Conduit could get over half a million by the end of the year. It's most likely already turned a profit.

2 for 3. That's not bad. These aren't GTA or even Zelda numbers, but Ico and Psychonauts didn't put up those sales, either. Not every game can sell like Halo...
