What is Nintendo not telling us about Wii Sports Resort?

But why the secrecy about the other five games? And why did the title get delayed from earlier in the spring until July? There's so many unanswered questions about the title that don't seem to be that big of deals, until you consider that Nintendo may indeed be hiding a few secrets. Below is a look at some questions and potential surprises.

Well that's the whole reason they're releasing it. It's pretty much an interactive tech demo, if you ask me. I don't know if I'll get it... I might. Depends if there's any good-looking games that they'll reveal. Pretty much the only thing pushing me to get it now is the knowledge that, every time I bring it to a party or something, someone will be like "You don't have Wii Sports 2!?"

4 - Because
That's how they roll. ;)

Seriously though, I some times wonder why Nintendo even keeps us in the loop any more when it's so entranced with the casual (read: Wii Fit) cashcow...er, easy money...er, audience? Yeah. Okay. There we go.

Perhaps, "us" as in we, can't have the patience for their strategy.

Its funny though people pretend Nintendo is only after the money, but in fact all companies strife for loads of money.

Lets be honest here, if they really are hunting for "cashcows" and therefor they went after the casual market, does that tell us that "core" gamers don't like to spend their money?
Cause its as if thats the only logic that comes from it.

Fact is if they are really that "money hungry" they will try and catch as many people as possible to buy their products, including us.
Leaving us out doesn't magically make our money into their pockets.

In the end, they all want money, no product is made in mind to make loss.

True. However, the exact same strategy is what prompts the endless stream of sequels. Not all are bad, but they're all made with the same thing in mind: Give gamers more of what they loved, add more which they may or most likely would like. Some sequels don't follow this formula while others go above and beyond to provide gamers with a lot (Half-Life 2 and it's episodes, for example). It also prompts videogame adaptations of movies (which are bad when it's only made to cash in on the movie's hype), games like 50 Cent: Bulletproof (made to appeal to his "fans"), rip-offs and copycats (for instance, 187 Ride or Die and 25 to Life that tried to emulate the San Andreas formula), and more such garbage.

Many of the highest paid executives in the game industry exist solely for the purpose of finding what could work and turn over a good buck. But keep giving any one more of the same for too long and even die-hards reject it, and those profits suddenly become losses. Even games like Final Fantasy and Pokemon at worst added a few new hooks here and there. They've been part of the industry for a long time. A game like Wii Sports though? Same sh*t, different box. It's a fad. One of the more popular ones, agreed, but a fad nonetheless.

The thing is Nintendo still has lots of IP's lying around.
I do think "gamers" hardly have the patience to wait for nintendo's franchise know for years. And therefor hammer on the things they made like Wii-music or Wii-Fit. They want it all now. Hence why they cry Nintendo should make more hardcore games(but who says they arn't?)

A franchise like Super mario isn't still up and running because of us, its still up and running due the fact that each year new (and in most cases young)"gamers" join the market.

Nintendo actually gave us a fair batch to be honest, and more are coming.
So they made Wii-sports/fit/music, let those people who enjoy it have their share. If they were getting these profits just off us, then no one would complain they are cashcows or whatever...it actually is ironic and hypocricy at the same time.

People demand something, and aren't getting it the way they want it.
So instead of having patience they hammer on the Wii-franchise.

4.4 - Sheep are not cows are they?
Give gamers more of what they loved, add more which they may or most likely would like.

Normal maps and the same tired game play. Yep we loved it so much we would rather play online FPS now. I don't know the HD guys are milking graphic hordes that love specs right now but the guy that truly love gaming art are not pleased. The only game that had cool designs on the HD market was metal gear but the game play was pretty bland, which is pretty damn sad if you ask me.

It seems every thing is getting polished while nothing new is being made some how. It's like we are doing the 105th sequel to star wars right now and people are just buying it because of the tech.

Maybe you don't feel this way but take a look at your gamer friends, the hardcore is getting smaller by the year. You use to have at least ten gamer friend on avg now you have what, 1? I think this is why the HD guy must have things like live. Yet I can take hardcore games over to many peoples house and laugh with them as they struggle to play them, some will surprise me and get hooked. Will they buy the game will that depends on why they play their system.

HD is way more of a cash cow than wii fit right now, because HD graphical polish is way easier to hype and safer to make. Seriously nintendo could make gears of war and it would still suck if they made it for the same people. I did not say that last thing to put down people who like gears but that game is mostly for certain gamers in between hardcore and casual.

3rd parties love a good cash cow and if you look at how MS and SONY felt about the hardcore they just knew 60 million of you had $500 just laying around because you where older and you just loved HDtvs. What they didn't realize was you guys have fixed incomes and a recession hits every so often. If HD gaming wasn't a cash cow then it would have been implemented better to support high res textures, etc, like PS gaming.

The fact they are losing money on the systems just goes to show how much they expected to milk you guys for. Nintendo knows people are on a budget because that's is how they operate. MS and SONY choose to milk there few cash cows for as much as they could, with even mirco transactions. I love the idea of DLC but not the biz plan that it currently uses.

You want to know a game that nails art and design as well as gameplay? Prime 3. The guys at Retro really showed what they are made of with that series, wasn't prime running off a modified Quake engine?

I don't think people understand, that extra horsepower isn't and has NEVER been the driving force in our industry. As tech improved at brisker pace than gameplay innovation. I noticed this when I first played twilight princess. Superior in every way to every 3-d Zelda ever made, but why isn't it the best game in the series? The only thing that it really did was improve the presentation, gameplay was just a refined OoT. MGS4, despite all its hype is probably the worst of the series. Bland describes it perfectly. Great Art Direction and Design but gameplay? BOORINNG. And the sales show this.

Lets take Gears of War, the first game sells what 6 million? second one under 6 the last one will probably hit 4 million, see there? its a diminishing return. Sony and M$ are learning that catering exclusively to one group (especially the hardcore) is the quickest way to ensure diminishing returns.

Software sales tell the true story. Wii games have sold better than their previous incarnations, and have many games either over 10 million or approaching such a milestone. MS has one and Sony has 0. Heck, PS3 has yet to crack a million on ANY released software in Japan alone. Japan is really being crushed by the economic crisis, it is really terrible over there right now. Also, how many HD games stay on the charts 2 months after release? Re5 is the most recent forgotten title, now its on to the next one.

I really would of called it quits on console gaming this gen, I was feeling the industry was becoming to predictable and stagnant. In comes the Wii, while not perfect, it is a Console and nothing more. It continually reminds me of the NES, its software to its criticisms. I'm hoping it can continue to push gamplay forward in a way that keeps newcomers excited and veterans satisfied. With WM+ who knows what can happen next.

Yeah that was quake 3 engine all the way and if not they used almost the same tools from what I hear. A lot of those guys where quake 3 level designers so the jump to metroid was scary easy.

What is funny is the Wii is going to pull in a lot of FPS liking people who are new to it yet they just don't see them selves as hardcore gamers so 300+ on a game system and the tv to match makes no sense.

These guys will get conduit or red steel or better yet one of EA's sports games. Then they will find madworld, NMH, etc... Some will get punch out yet the motion+ push will bring the "right" gamers to the Wii. The good thing is the HD guys will continue to shun it. These guys will only be satisfied by the PC after a certain amount of time. Consoles will move to slow for them and more and more of that fan base will leave.

Nintendo has the potiential to make brand new fanbase for FPS, similar how golden eye and quake existed at the same time. Some people are not even experiencing FPS and how much fun online play is. These people obviously only have Wii's also. The Wii will have this same effect.

Look at the xbox 360... with out the first halo they would not even be on the radar. Even I'll admit gamers are FPS hungry and don't even know it till they get the one that works for them.

Another thing is red steel has the potiential to be an Offset type game, Offset's studio was bought by intel and they where making a FP melee game. Mirrors edge had this but red steel can easily have better gun play than that game. You would think gamers would under stand how gamers are made? Maybe I was just lucky to be around so many gamers and industry people.

Doom did it to one generation of gamers then came duke, then came quake, now we have halo guys and now console games are converting to it but a few things are missing and one is control. Many wonder what it takes to make an addictive game and it always point to control, every time, because this is about gaming and every thing else is extra. We've went from ball mouse to Wii motes+.

This reminds me of the shock that people had right before they played Wii sports. Seriously no amount of hype works with this platform you have to try it. It may be too much for some. conduit will be good but I'm sure the next will use motion+ once they see what other can do with it.

Some thing tells me the PS3 is selling so well right now because japan loves movies and what movie just came out? It was tied to square, yeah... there you go and maybe a few wanted animes and there you go. The criticisms that the PS2 was only a movie box truly is coming true on the PS3 and the price is so high online the rich taste will go for it while we are in a recession and the middle class is left with only handhelds but who knows I don't live there there could be more to this.

I'm really looking forward to Wii Resort as it will hopefull demonstrate in that perfect Nintendo way, the potential of this new add on

Nintendo always keep things fresh like when the time Super fx chip arrived and we were treated to Star Fox in all it's 3d brilliance.Only Nintendo could do a game like as good as how that ended up

If ever i feel there is a slight lull in the amount of games coming to Wii then i happily play on my 360

Nintendo should always be a part of your gaming choice as only they do games this special way

Some Wii games have worse in game graphics than the Gamecube did- not always in terms of the number of effects available but in terms of the graphical style. Look at that Mii- that's not a hairstyle- he looks like his head has been dipped in chocolate.

it has a sword fighting game that might be online.... i'm buying it. End of story. I'm almost certain this will not be nearly as bad a wiiplay so count your blessings. I'm eager to see what the final 5 games might be. I think golf was the most lacking in wii sports due to inaccuracy and would be a fine addition. Suddenly there is way too much good stuff to buy for the wii. My moneys are disappearing fast!

I'm getting it just to see what nintendo can do with their own tech. They usually fix things that other have not even though of. The game is going to be pretty cool though, I can see why people wouldn't buy it though.
