4 Best Games to Play Alone In The Dark

NoBSGamers writes: "Horror movies are for wussies. If you want a real scare then you need to play a survival horror game. Let's be honest, when you watch a movie your level of engagement is limited, and it can be easy to zone out. Gaming however, keeps you focused by force. Lets take a look at some of the best of the creepers in gaming."

Don't see why Deadspace isn't on here, a lot of people are saying it's far scarier and seems to be everything that was done right that Resident Evil 5 should have done.

For me, Dead Space, RE-make for Cube, Doom 3, and Silent Hill 3 and 4 are all freaky as hell!

Doom III are you kidding? With the weapons you have there isn't anything to worry about. What is missing from that list though is Siren. It's one thing to face something evil with a BFG. It's another thing to do it with nothing or at best a shovel.

Yes I have and it just isn't a spooky title. There is a difference that at least 2 people do not understand, between being an action game shocks you versus being a spooky/chilling title.

1.7 - ok i see what your trying to say
yeah so the best way to explain doom 3 would be ... first 4 levels spooky/ scary... last 16 levels intense action !!!

I thought BioShock was pretty tame. The atmosphere was decent, but not in a scary kind of way. System Shock 2 did a better job with the scares.

Too bad licensing prevented a true sequel to System Shock or even a direct remake. SS2 sits on my 5 best titles ever and was the spiritual grandfather of titles such as Bioshock and Deus Ex.

for me it's just Dead Space.

I just loved everything about that game. it was scary in a strange way. I remember an interview with the developers and one guy was talking about how the best scare moment is the one you see coming, but still scares you. In my mind i thought that was a load of crap. I have never played a game or watched a movie that was able to scare me in that way.

In dead space there were a lot of moments that very scripted, very Oh i saw that coming a mile away.. yet some of them actually did scare me a bit.

The use of sound to create atmosphere was awesome as well. loved the story too.

Dead Space was scary. Condemned was crazy though, I started playing it in the dark one night and it messed with me lol, I was like "Man this game is F'ed up"

Deadspace was spooky and very immersive. I was totally sucked into the story!

Condemned 2 boodshot was beats those games hands down. It was freaky as hell! Too bad not too many people played it. The abandoned doll factory with the freaky music just was over the top scary!
