Metroid Prime's new play controls demonstrated in Japanese ads

Joystiq's thoughts/videos of Nintendo's new Japanese commercials for the New Play Control version of Metroid Prime pretty well answer the question of how the new controls work.

The first and best 3D Metroid IMHO.

That video brought back fond memories.
Metroid had amazing graphics for 2002.

AND that Boulder monster was NOT easy to beat. Turn into ball, roll, stand up, change weapon, change visor, change visor back, ball, etc.

Hopefully the Wiimote will make it easier. Swapping back and forth through the visors and weapons and ball mode was the killer and made you c0ck up.

i wonder what button will be used for the weapon switching.......if there were 2 things i didnt like in Prime 3 it was how easy it was and how you leveled up your gun.I liked it better when you could switch guns.

Gotta love Retro for the great job they've always done on the Prime series since the day it was decided to go FPV/FPS with the Metroid games.
This looks sharper than the original and with full widescreen and a graphical buff up it'll be great with MP3's superlative controls(switching wil be back without HM to use imo). I'm still hoping for the MP1 and 2 box like everyone else.Oh, and also for them to fix the one huge glaring omission from Metroid Prime on Wii-the lack of onine MP! If they could manage a geat job for Hunters on the DS why couldn't we have something for the big screen?
Really givning some online element beyond the friend stickers and stuff is being cried out for with those sweet controls(still easily th best set up on the Wii for FPS style games imo-have to see what The Conduit can do though)-it would be so cool to finally get it!
Obviously very keen for this to make it's way to the west!

Funny part is alot of people on this site think Miyamoto has gone soft and casual but i remember he was the one who said that Metroid should go FPS and to include the visors(scan, xray, etc.)

Im with you though if they could do a Prime online like they did on the DS.Sucks that Prime hunters didnt do very well in sales though...dont know why that game really was a great game.

I absolutly love the metroid series been playing them since i was 4 or 5 first one for me was Super Metroid but seriously why not just patch it when you insert the Gamecube verson OR how about they make another 2D metroid :D but i feel thats too much for Nintendo to do since the core audiance dont matter to them anymore

As much as I can't stand the Wii, watching the vids for Metroid Prime spruced up with the more responsive Wii controls is damn well tempting me. Shame that its about the only game that interests me on the Wii. :(
