Wii Play is the Best Selling Game of 2008

"If you've already taken a look at our earlier story on the release of the December NPDs, you'll find that the NPD Group's top ten list of the best selling games in 2008 is extremely similar. Both lists are dominated by Nintendo titles, topped by Wii Play, and contain just one PlayStation 3 game and one DS game. We've said it before, but it bears repeating: If Nintendo is feeling the impact of this recession, the sales numbers certainly don't reflect it. Wii Play alone -- a title frequently bemoaned by the press and hardcore gamers -- outsold the combined sales of Grand Theft Auto 4 on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and Mario Kart Wii was just 180,000 copies shy of managing the same feat."

To be honest kind of sad really this was the software that moved the most when their were so many other titles (Especially on the wii) that should or rather could have moved a lot more.

Anyway :p, weren't their bundles for controllers anyway? Or did it come with a classic? For the most part Monster Hunter G should more than likely be miles ahead of this since their will be a Tri~ Demo as well as a Monster Hunter classic controller.

-Also if I come off as a person who hates the Wii I'm not, just trying to figure out how and why this is happening when so many other games could have/should have sold well :p.

This is how Nintendo pushes their crap games on you. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wii Music in with a controller someday. But hey, casuals eat those games up, so more power to Nintendo for it I guess.

Lets stop looking at Wii play because it shouldnt even count because its a bundle, and if they would count that then they should count Wii sports too right? Well no so this shouldnt be counted and if Wii sports was counted then it would win best seller every year, but now lets look at Mario Kart Wii that came in second and im glad it did, that game is fun for the hardcore and casual and im still enjoying it. Then lets look at Brawl it came in 4th and i think it deserves it, maybe even better. I mean it is a really good game, I would say better than Mario Kart Wii but the online was bad so that should move it down a little.

I'm honestly surprised that it does count. They usually discount hardware bundles for exactly this reason. That's why we don't see Wii Sports on there.

its a 10 buck game and bundled with a controller for only 10 bucks more you can get a game with your controller... the target wii audience doesn't know any better that the game isn't even worth it, they just think oh an extra game!

to me it is equivalent to those crappy burger king games, people were like oh they sold close to what halo sold blah... well they were like 4 bucks. any type of bundled games dont count to me... ill even count something like wiifit cause that your actually paying 60 for 50 for the game and 40 or 30 or w/ever it is for the board. not 10 and 40... even mario kart...cause your buying the game, the accessorie comes with it...with wiiplay it is the other way around

Invalid point. Anyone can afford a PS3. Not everyone could buy a Porsche. I am amused that people even thought this was a valid point.. Who really compares 200.00 and 400.00 products to 20k and 80k products and actually thinks they have a valid point? Just goes to show the extremely low education level of some countries when people are so misinformed they think comparing cars to console makers is worth merit.

6 - You won't see Zelda until next gen.
Why spend $30 million to make another Zelda when you can spend $1 million to make another Mario Cart or "Wii BS" game?

They will use the next Zelda to launch a new console.

8 - It's because of the controller
It's such a cheap game that it comes with a controller for almost no extra price, but I'm sure very system sells more controllers than individual games, if you get what I mean. Anyway it's a shame for a console that had mario kart and super smash bros this year.

9 - i'm sorry to say...
i purchased one for my niece and nephew... even they were over it after one play thru... it's not even worth the extra $10 with the controller... i'd just get the controller by itself... thats just me...
