Scientists to Determine if Wii Fit Actually Works
35
Games Are Evil writes, "This holiday season Wii Fit has been selling like hotcakes. It has been impossible to find them anywhere, as every housewife on the planet longs for the chance to have Mario call them a fat ass. Ironically, though the game is named Wii Fit, there has been little or no scientific evidence to support the Fit portion of the product's name..."

1.5 - Yes it works.
But, you can get the same results without a Wii fit. What it does do is offers you a visual aid for your activities and your weight and BMI progress. All this can be obtained in other ways, but some people do appreciate and respond better to the motivation of the Wii fit than another person who can judge them. So, to sum it up, does it work? Yes. Does it work better than other work out programs? No. Is it more user friendly than working with a real trainer? Yes, unless your trainer is a hot person of the opposite gender who offers an incentive program for lbs lost (wink). That's a wrap, no scientist needed.

It probably works slightly, it probably won't make you lose weight, but most likely will help with joint problems in later life.

Scientists already looked at this months ago when WiiFit was new. It's NOT a replacement for actual exercise and in fact you burn far less calories playing WiiFit than if you actually went and did some jumping jacks.

Hmmm. I got the Wii Fit today. Spent a ton of time on it. It's really quite a good simple workout. There's strength training, aerobics, yoga, balance training, and the like. The activities range from fun (ski jumping anyone) to serious (the strength training is pretty severe, if you want it to be) to ingenious (the running in place is much more fun than you'd think). I like the way it sets you up, calculates your BMI and sets goals for you. IT's something we all did together, which rocks as well. It's pretty amazing. PLUS you can use the board for other games like Wii Music or the new snowboarding game (Shawn White). So, worth the $90 I paid for it. Easy.

Could you see yourself using it for a month without getting bored of it? I ask because it looks like something I'll would buy but return in the next 15 days, so I'm debating weather I should buy it or not.

That depends on your reason for getting it and your motivation. If you want to loose weight and you find the time to use it, you be fine. There is even an option to do steps (step on the board, step of) while watching a TV show or playing another console. The Wii gives your step count through the speaker on the controller. It gives the cadence, you adjust the pace and interval. 10, 20 or 30 minutes. 30 minutes fly by when your watching a show, right? So imagine steping away an episode of your favorite show you watch every night. The same can be obtained without the Wii fit, but it would be more tedious keeping track of your progress.

The main way that Wii Fit helps a person lose weight is by making a person aware of their physical body, it's supposed to use that awareness and create motivation to help make a person strive to make better choices. Of Course doing the activities are better then sitting on the couch doing nothing so at the very least there will be minimal improvements from people actually using it.

The commercials here start out with " stay motivated".
So it's a direct hint at it won't be a full work out, it won't replace anything. It's just there to make people aware of their physical health.

They tested wii fit out on the Gadget show which is a TV show in the UK just in case you live else where. They tested it over a 6 week period for around 1 hour per day.they were tested for fitness at the beginning and at the end of this period. The results were that it actually did have an effect over that time period however it wasnt as much as going to the gym and having a work out.Trouble I think is just sticking at it!

I'm sure it works a bit, but I'm skeptical about whether it can (Or should) replace the old-fashioned going-outside-for-a-run way of exercising.

The only game that I think stands a chance at making you more fit is Dance Dance Revolution or the old school NES Track and Field game... maybe the just should have updated that game and put it out!

depends on how big you are. Plus, you're not supposed to jump on the thing. It holds up to 330 pounds, so if you're more than that, you might want to try some gentle walking first.
