Nintendo Pitches In to Help Dragon Quest Succeed -- What It Means

Wired: "The announcement, two years ago, that Dragon Quest IX would arrive on Nintendo DS certainly gave game publishers the confidence to latch on to that platform. Hence the reason for Iwata's 'big smile,' as reported by Japanese game blogs, when Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii blurted out that the tenth game would arrive on Wii. Even if it takes three years before it happens, just knowing that it is coming will make consumers more confident in buying Wii, and publishers more confident in putting big-name games on the platform. If you don't think that such a major ripple effect could happen, then you don't understand just how huge Dragon Quest is in Japan."

It's just the beggining too.. Soon the casual gamers industry will destroy the hardcore console gamers industry.. then the PC gaming industry will prevail and then die again..for good. After that , people will notice that it's more fun to play sports in real life and videogames shall be a soon a forgotten trend...all of this will slowly start from now and finish off in 2019...

I hope it happens, just to see you cry. =)

Seriously, stop being so over dramatic!
If casual games would destroy the game industry, it would have happened with the NES if not the PSx/Ps2 would have given the final blow.

just stop it will ya?

After Dragon Quest 10 drops in Japan, the 360 and PS3 will be doomed to life support in Japan for a long time.I am glad that SE is supporting the Wii with a hardcore game instead of casual spin-offs but I do wonder of they intend to support the 360 or PS3 at all

Perhaps if True, rapture may help out 360 and PS3? Weren't they [Square-Enix] designing it so that both could run it just as well, also thought they were working on something else but for the life of me I can't remember...

The MMO code-named Rapture is likely only for PC.I doubt SE has any motivation to work on anything for PS3 and 360 and after the FF games hit

"Other than the new title, it is known that the MMORPG will be developed using Crystal Tools, which hints at a multi-platform release across the Playstation 3, XBox 360 and the PC."

Though only time will tell when it will be released, though I've got to say Square has been going multi with their online games. It wouldn't surprise me if this one did the same.

Though that aside, at least Final Fantasy is coming I guess that's something to look forward to :p
