And does he realise that there are dozens of really talented bands out there that will never make it because they weren't in the right place at the right time.

There are some seriously talented people out there, that just never get the opportunity of getting signed.

Guitar Hero isn't to blame for that.

Yeah, I think if anything, it's boosting interest in music. Heck, it helped my brother start producing better music. He used to make digital diarrhea if he tried to create a piece, but now his stuff is listenable, all because he attained a greater appreciation for quality music by playing Rock Band.

their newest CD isnt bad at all. Gotta Be Somebody was a really nice song.

I dont like that they are slamming it because I feel that it does the opposite. I feel it gets kids interested into the idea of being in a band. So I would have to disagree with him there.

I agree. Every time I listen to rock music now I think of how it would actually play on RockBand/Guitar Hero. Now I've only played Rock Band but I think musicians would have a greater respect for RockBand/Guitar Hero if in place of buttons, color coded strings that actually trigger each note. Then once you've played Eye of the Tiger a hundred times for five stars you might memorize it on an actual guitar.

What is he smoking?

Bands like Project 86, Neon Horse, Foxy Shazam!, Showbread, and Blindside will never get the recognition they deserve...because they don't have the connections someone like Nickelback has.

It's tragic too...because Nickelback has such shallow lyrics that don't deserve to be played. If you want real lyrics, listen to Demon Hunter. That's true depth.

How can he take himself seriously? Other artists with ten times the talent he has will never make it big.

Their tired out, sold-out, crappy sound is why the rock genre lost its fanbase to begin with.

well i work in computing but enjoy gh and also play real guitar for fun. and thats the thing loads of ppl play real instruments but how many actually go on to make a career out of it. its a recreational hobby for millions but not a career (being in a band) so can i persue my chosen career path and play both video games and my guitar in my spare time chad, pls pls pls lol it's not like there's not plenty of upcoming talent and i dunno why he wants more bands cus it would knock nickleback down a few pegs thats for sure with their rather mediocre rock

I don't really think these rhythm games have a positive or negative effect on music, most music is rubbish, gotta look hard for the good stuff.

wow, i really don't see a correlation between these GH games and lack of good new music...

i enjoy listening to nickelback sometimes as a diversion from bands such as dream theater and such, but that was one moronic comment.

Hell, if anything the music industry is being driven further into the ground because of gimmick bands like nickelback who just repackage new albums with different lyrics. Their sound has not changed since day one.

Like mentioned earlier, there are so many underground and talented acts who get no exposure now mainly due to the fact that most labels don't spend money and take risks like they did in the 90s.

I actually applaud GH and Rockband for exposing younger generations and many others to music that they never would've ever listened to in the first place.

I've played guitar my whole life and there is nothing inherently wrong with these games. Not everyone who enjoys music and plays these games needs to go out immediately and learn to play the real thing.

There are casual gamers/music lovers who wish to enjoy the music in a different medium. Guitar hero has offered a fresh, new way to enjoy, listen, and experience music.

Yes, let's blame games instead of actually confronting the real problem with the music industry here in the U.S.

#1 Nickelback doesn't need to criticize anything with that atrocious music they've been assaulting us with. I read an interview with him in a guitar magazine once that he has a basic formula for writing "awesome" songs. What a tool. I have despised him ever since (already hated the music though).

#2 with that said I think Guitar hero is kinda lame. That kind of game just doesn't appeal to me, and play the guitar anyway. I can understand why people like it I guess though.It's not F'ing up the music industry though,that happened with bands like Creed and Nickelback - the neo 'grunge' types. hell maybe it will inspire people to actually learn how to play, so we can move past this horrible time for music.

#3 Can somebody resurrect Kurt Cobain so we can listen to real music again?

I agree with Chad Kroeger on this point... a lot of kids are allowing themselves to be immersed in a virtual guitar playing world (Guitar Hero). Also, I would just like to point out that instead of voicing your opinion on the band, you should focus on the topic at hand... which IS "Kids shouldn't be playing Guitar Hero - instead they should be out learning guitar!".
