F... You, We've Already got Your Money - 5 things that Nintendo Needs to Stop Saying and Doing.

Iran White writes:

Nintendo has gotten into the habit; regarding the Wii, of saying things (either through word or action) that are so far from the truth it's become insulting. It's gotten to the point that many Wii owners just don't want to hear it anymore. PR is PR, and business is business, but either you do it honestly and respectfully, or you damage your relationship with your customers. We all love Nintendo, but sometimes it's necessary to tell it like it is in order to stop someone you love from crapping on you. Here are the top 5 things that Nintendo needs to stop saying and doing:

1 - That's exactly why I sold my Wii...
I got tired of expecting games like Tiger Woods to make total use of the motion controls only to find out that I would have to buy another peripheral for that. I didn't finish Mario or Zelda, because as good as the gameplay was, I'm a graphics whore and couldn't get passed it. I jumped on the Brawl bandwagon, only to realize that I wasn't into that sort of game. I just bought it, cause I ran out of patience, waiting for Nintendo to release something good. In the end, Wii Sports was the only title that I played the most. Golf, specifically. All I really wanted was a game made just like Wii golf, with many courses. The worst part was that when I did the math, I had bought over $700 worth of Wii stuff. It's like crack, the gimmick was that it's fun and "cheap". But in the end it's not worth it. If anyone reading this is on the fence about a Wii, believe me when I tell you that unless you are 6 years old, you'll use it for a few months and thats it. After that, you keep buying new releases and a mess of new peripherals that never add up to the feeling you had when you first played it.

Got mine in Feb of 07 and use it all the time. Only true next gen console on the market in my opinion. Didnt cost me 700.00 just for a Wii though. Kinda obvious you dont own one and just making that all up in the hopes that someone might believe you.

1.3 - I almost missed out on Mario Galaxy as well
....only last month did I manage to play it (I put it on while my Burnout Paradise was updating).

I must say...if you can look past the graphics, the game is AWESOME. Some of the stages are very well designed.

"All I really wanted was a game made just like Wii golf, with many courses" Yet tiger Woods isnt on your list of games... Odd.. I'll have to agree with Captain on this one.. You claim every game sucks yet you bought twilight, hated it, almost a year later bought SMG and hated it.. It is easy to tell your making it up when you just look at what you are saying.. You had it for over 2 years(you claim) hated every game since the first one you bought but kept on buying them? Nobody is that stupid...Tiger Woods already works like Wii sports golf. Any real owner that was looking forward to the game would already know that. Hey if you want to make yourself look stupid just in case someone might buy into your BS feel free, but any real Wii owner will know you are making it up.. Also I notice you didnt buy any Wii 3rd party games like NMH, Boom Blox or other geat games.. ONly the highest rated first party which are complete crap according to you.. Funny how that means every PS3 and 360 game is also complete crap as SMG outscored them all in reviews.

1.5 - When did I say Wii games are crap?...
...I clearly stated that the gameplay was good but being a graphics whore, I stopped playing them. Why would I lie about owning a Wii? Do you realize how stupid you sound? By the way, Wii Golf is WAYYYY more fun than Tiger Woods 08.

"the zelda team, mario team and the metroid team(I guess they are so pissed) "

considering that Their games always take years to make, i have no idea how long we would wait if they went HD...

I don't think they would be pissed, when it comes to developement, the design at its core is important(not talking about visuals, rather concept).
Would be nice though seeing them making awesome worlds and such, but i don't think they are "pissed", they are still doing their jobs as they should.

Clearly written by a fanboy with nothing but hate on their mind..Seriously wtf does Moario and Zelda taking time to make have to do with 3rd parties? When did Nitnendo ever say "F you we have your money."? 50.00 is too much for games? Why arent you crying about paying 60.00. This is someone that clearly wants to take everything out of context and spin spin spin it all he can. Article should be reported and removed for just being complete BS, but I already know that the Sony defense force will never take it down no matter how invalid it is.

This isn't about the SDF,Captain Sony...you remind me of someone,a guy named Saint Sony or something like that.

Anyway like I said its interesting that Microsoft,Sony and former Nintendo fans are writing the same anti-Wii FUD all the time.Truly a shame to see many gamers hating Nintendo's new strategy although for me I have felt the strategy refreshing.I don't care for Wii Music or Wii Fit but games like Boom Blox,No More Heroes, and Metroid Prime 3 have satisfied me as a Wii gamer.I am sick of seeing Anti-Wii articles clutter up the Wii section of news instead of news and previews for some upcoming games like Little Kings Story and Fatal Frame IV

My point about the SDF is this article is clearly against the posting policy with everything they make up out of thin air, but because this site is extremely Pro-Sony it will not be removed. It is sad that this site has rules that the mods refuse to follow and everyday N4G becomes even more of a joke and pathetic fanboy site in the eyes of many many other sites and gamers out there. Their bias love for a brand name is destroying what could be a great site for all gamers( Like they claim it is supose to be but isnt).

@Captain Sony

Well I can't really stop that. This site is pro-Sony but after last year when Wii and 360 dominated the articles,I guess it was only a matter of time before Sony fanboys took over.

From what I can understand about Nintendo fans and why they do not show up here might be because they are just too busy playing games. Many of my lifelong Nintendo hardcore friends are 20-30 years old that are psychologists and business owners who have played games since the days of the NES.They take their spare time for a console like the Wii and enjoy it.There are plenty of Nintendo fans, they just don't come to sites like these because they are too busy living their normal lives and enjoying the Wii and DS to care what goes on in this swamp known as n4g.

This has nothing to do with Sony, I don't know why you even brought them up. I don't think anyone that has a PS3 or 360 even cares about the Wii, unless it's there second console. The Wii isn't in direct competition with the other two. They offer completely different things.

To me, it sounds like you're attempting to deflect Nintendo's issues onto Sony fanboys. I'm not saying all the points in this article are very good, or even that true, but Nintendo does have issues. There are a ton of really bad 3rd party games, a ridiculous amount of peripherals, and the holiday season is pretty baron of Wii games compared to the other two. I mean Wii fanboys constantly talk about The Conduit, a game that won't be out for quite a while, when people complain how the Wii isn't for hardcore gamers.

The truth is, Nintendo has changed focus to casual gamers. I'm not saying that is bad though. A lot of people love the Wii and Nintendo is obviously swimming in money because of it. Hardcore gamers are just disappointed with it for a number of reasons. If you're happy with it, then great.

They have more to talk about then just Conduit. Madworld, NM2, HOTD, Cursed Mountain,Sin and punishment, FFCC, Punch Out, etc.. You seem to think you know a lot about the WIi but it is clear from your posts that you know nothing of value and only what you read from other trolls and fanboys like yourself. It is clear that you only support Sony and only care about Sony and that's why an article that makes up all its points and facts is ok for you.
Clearly you more worried about trashing them based on false claims more than you are about seeing whether or not the complete BS you keep talking about has any merit..

@Cenobia, I am sorry but claiming that the Wii is not in competition with the PS3/360 is really a dumb thing to say.. You see when Nintendo said it they were referring to power. They were not going to compete to see who could get the highest specs. Wii offers many of the same games as PS3, 360, now I didnt say all so dont go asking for games that you know are not on the system. All 3 are game consoles. Not one of them offers any kind of experience that is completely different from the other two. Maybe it is just me but simply splitting the controller in half is hardly a completely different experience.

Also the guy never said the Wii was perfect. Just because it isnt perfect and has some issues though is no reason to just make up stuff in a lame attempt to get hits for your site.

I'm just astounded that you're okay with buying that many peripherals, for example. First it was nunchucks and play and charge kits, then the classic controller (maybe even a gamecube one), then the Wii Fit board, and soon Wii motion plus. Sony is guilty of this as well (sixaxis to dualshock), but the Wii is the biggest offender this gen.

And the Wii and PS3/360 do appeal to different markets. They have vastly different images to the regular public whether you like it or not. The Wii has distanced itself from the other consoles by making motion sensing a main feature, and letting graphics take a back seat. If you want Mario/Zelda/WiiSports etc, you get a Wii. If you want games with high end graphics, and a media center, you get one of the other two. I'm not saying one is better than the other, but they offer different things. The Wii offers a VERY different experience.

The Wiimote itself puts a huge distance between the consoles. It's not just cutting it in half, its adding the motion input and IR aiming. Shooters require actual pointing rather than regular analog input, which is a pretty big difference. Also, if you want the more mature titles, you are going to have to get a 360 or PS3. The Wii has mature games, but the selection is smaller. Plus the multiplatform ports don't look nearly as good on the Wii. If you prefer the Wii gameplay (another example of the difference) than that's a choice you make.

I don't argue that there is often an overlap, it's just easier to differentiate the Wii from the other consoles. Think about it. Making a choice between the 360 and PS3 is much harder than making a choice between the PS3 and Wii, or 360 and Wii. The 360 and PS3 have far more similarities, offering a similar experience. I think it makes a lot more sense to own a PS3 (or 360) AND a Wii. You'd get a lot more games that way.

Keep calling me dumb/fanboy though. It really makes you look intelligent. I mean you can barely stay calm long enough to have a real conversation, so who's the real fanboy here. You can disagree without going fudgin crazy about it.

As for your last comment, I don't pretend that any console is perfect. They all have their faults. Also, this isn't my website if that's what you think (if you're talking to me there). I didn't submit this and definitley didn't write it. If I had, I definitley would have mentioned the peripherals.

I think you are very confused.. First off Nintendo didnt say anything about any engine they designed. Now you might be talking about HVS, but again you clearly do not comprehend what was said. Your comment is just all wrong anyway.. Wii is a next gen console so all games have next gen graphics.. I think what you are talking about is how people who saw the game in action confused it for a 360 title and HVS promised effects in their games that are common on the 360 and PS3( considered next gen by many) things like Bloom, bump mapping, dpeth of field, better particle effects, etc. Not next gen GRAPHICS, next gen VISUALS. there is a clear difference. Wii cannot do 1080p or even 720p so it can never match the graphics of PS3 360 titles, however it can give next gen effects in games leading to next gen visuals.

4.2 - first off
calm down.

second off, they said Verbatim (word for word if you don't know what that means)..."close to next gen graphics". Then they gave that little diddy of an explanation that you just gave about what they can do with the wii. I'm well aware of that.

Third - I know nintendo didn't say that - but it was wii related. I don't feel I should have an obligation to be meticulous about my specifics.

No need to be so hyper-sensitive on such a brief comment. People could have percieved my comment one way or another, and could either A) take positive precedence and know what i am talking about or b) choose the route that you took and misconstrue my words and create negative feedback. Thank you very much and have a great day

I do remember that Nintendoeverything was skeptical of Nintendo after the E3 conference. To be honest so was I.

I felt perplexed because of that conference that Nintendo's biggest gun was Wii Music even though Disaster:Day of Crisis was re-announced a few weeks later with no hype and flopped in Japan with 20,000 sales.I think Disaster,The Conduit,World of Goo,and Fragile could have kept Nintendo interesting at E3.Hope the next one is better

Really not interested in Disaster:Day of Crisis. I think it looks a bit crappy TBH. I think it looks like a PS2 reject and if it were on any other console it would be getting no coverage at all. Sorry, that's a bit harsh, but that's just my opinion.

Conduit, on the other hand, looks REALLY good, and I still haven't got round to downloading World of Goo yet. I want to get it and I want those devs to have my money as I think they've earnt it, but there are just too many good games out at the moment.

Cursed Mountain looks like my type of game too - hope that turns out well. This is actually one of my most anticipated Wii titles.

Mad World - can't make my mind up yet. Art style looks fantastic, so does the stylised gore, but I need to read more hands on reports. I'm often sceptical of Sega these days.

E3 was baaaaad. But Nintendo have always kept their cards close to their chests. That will never change. Look at all the 3rd parties that didn't know the motion plus was getting released!

EDIT: And I almost forgot my most anticipated title for the Wii - Monster Hunter. How could I forget that?!

Craig seems to be the jaded one..He will talk about games being good or great then give them a poor review. His review score never seems to match the review.. AC is AC only better but I dont like AC so I give it a 7.0..He constantly contradicts himself... Oh and like the time he completely trashes the Wii version of Shaun White and promotes the PS3,360 version then the game is released and scores higher on Wii in the review....Makes no sense at all

Disaster is not for everybody but I actually like that its not for everybody. It diversifies the Wii library and I really wish to check it out.Light gun elements combined with action sequences sounds like the type of game for.

As for Mad World,I have no doubt Platinum Games will deliver a hit with it.I expect AAA reviews across the board for that one.

Cursed Mountain is too early but like I said, variety is a good thing.

It isnt a Wii fanboy site.. Not a real site at all. They just wait for Wii news to be posted then give it their own spin, copy and paste. I cant think of one article they have copy and pasted that wasnt turned around to change what was originally said or intended. They just use the Wii name because it makes people like you think they are pro Nintendo when they are about as supportive of any Nintendo product as Sony is supportive of MS.

Lame article claiming how they once "loved Nintendo, BUT now with the Wii wahhhhhh" like a bunch of whiny goobers. Meanwhile these ppl claiming they loved Nintendo so much didn't buy an N64 or Gamecube and probably switched sides during the SNES vs Genesis era. These same folks also had no intention of buying a Wii,, but are just so perplexed as to how this system called Wii is destroying the competition. So the next thing they do is belittle its audience one of my favorite lines besides the one I mentioned earlier (I used to love Nintendo but...) is the "REAL gamers play.....These fanboys need to shut their mouths, and these types of articles need to be laid to rest.

I don't think I'll be buying the Wii2 or whatever it's called when it comes out, since SNES Nintendo has been filled with crap, crap and more crap. Bought N64 and played Mario, Mario Kart, KI, Golden Eye, StarFox and stopped. Games Cube, played Mario Kart, Smash Bros and...... pretty much everything else sucked. Wii, play Wii sport(tried other games but it feels the same), Mario Kart(Worst MK ever!). I thought my son would not ever stop playing it but 2 months later the Wii is simply sitting there collecting dust. Wii Music anyone!? Get the F outta here.

9 - CHECK THE BULLET POINTS!
5. Mario and Zelda games take time to develop.

Really. Would you rather they rushed them?

"They've failed (initially at least, there is hope for the future) to create an environment where 3rd party developers see incentive to pick up the slack, and they failed (initially) to see the demand for new core games this generation, and seemingly refuse to make an adjustment."

What the hell does this even mean? Create an environment? It's Nintendo's fault they're being so lazy?

4. Nintendo's core gamers are insatiable.

"The insatiable comment implies that no matter what Nintendo does, core gamers will never be satisfied. It implies that they are doing all that they can. However, this is yet another cover for Nintendo's shortcomings. Nintendo is far from doing all that they can. Core Nintendo gamers understand where Nintendo is coming from far better than they think I'd imagine. To a great extent, they are doing what they have to do to expand the market and make profit"

You act as if Nintendo is the ONLY company guilty of this? What a shock. And the key phrase in this section is "I imagine..." because I can tell this is just coming off the top of your head.

3. Animal Crossing IS what you want and all you're gonna get for now.

"If you've played Animal Crossing before, there's nothing new that's really worth buying this game for. I don't want that. The average core gamer doesn't want that. And we're sick of being told that we do just so Nintendo can pretend that they are giving us games that we want."

So the game wasn't what you hoped for... so what? S*** happens...

You know, whenever I didn't like a game, I didn't buy it, and I looked for something I did like. Take note.

And when did Nintendo say that you wanted this? Far as I know, they just released it...

2. $50 is an o.k. price for any non WiiWare Wii game.

If you own a PS3 or 360, shut up. shut up right now...

"While Nintendo has done a decent job of the latter with their own first party games, they fail more often than not with the former. Worse still, they continually allow crap from 3rd party developers that fails in both departments to not only release on the console, but cost 50 bucks. On one hand it is understandable that Nintendo wants to let Developers create their own price point for their games, but on the other hand, a price point that rips off customers - their customers; should not be allowed."

So the GREEDY 3rd party devs that are allowed to use whatever price point they see fit for their crappy games have been completely absolved of any guilt here whatsoever... it's ALL Nintendo's fault. And as I said before, you don't like it, don't buy it. It's that simple.

But I grew up in a day and age where we paid $64 for cartridges, so I wouldn't expect you to understand this. My God, Maximum Carnage was expensive.

BTW, you DO know that over time, some games actually go down in price... right?

"Which brings us to the final and perhaps most insulting attitude of Nintendo."

1. F you, we already got your money.

All of the above feed into this attitude, which Nintendo may deny since they of course have never actually spoken this, but their actions have continually spoken louder than their words.

"Oh did you pay 50 bucks for that game and it sucked? F you, we've already got your money." (Learn to read game reviews and evaluate your purchases, moron.)

"Want us to make sure that doesn't happen again? F you, we've already got your money." (See above, moron.)

"Are you buying games that you normally wouldn't buy from us because our replay value is so thin? F you, we've already got your money."

(Whose fault is this... Nintendo's or YOURS?)

"Are you buying unfulfilling, slightly enhanced versions of games you've played in the past out of loyalty to us? Wishing that we'd give you the logical next step features that we know everyone wants? F you, we've already got your money."

(Admit it, you want it to be a HD console with leaderboards and "achievement points", don't you? Oh, and mustn't forget the HDD...
...and "slightly enhanced?" You do know that with the exceptions of many "diamonds in the rough," most games released nowadays are "slightly enhanced" games you've played in the past, covered in a glossy, HD finish...)

"Have you bought all of our quality releases for the Wii so far and the way we configure them leaves you wanting? F you, we've already got your money."

(Yes, HOW DARE YOU make me wait for anything!!! Because I don't own this copany, and have the short attention span of a dazed chimp, so you must have new games ready for me when I demand them!!! And I only want games from YOU, because I have no faith in any other developers making anything remotely interesting for this console... which I blame you for, BTW...)

"Do you want us to be straight up with you, respect you, and tell you the truth no matter how much it stings? F you, we've already got your money."

(At this point, if they've already got your money, then it was because you were too stupid to weigh your options before giving it to them in the first place. From what I can tell, all Nintendo has done is be straight up, respectful, and told the truth... no matter how much you want to deny it. You want to explain yourself? F you, we've already got your opinion.)

5. He's referring to the sh!tty 3rd party games. The Wii's biggest games have been Nintendo games. Super Smash Brothers, Zelda, Metroid, etc. There are some good third party games like Boom lox, etc, but a majority of them are horrible. Like:
http://www.mywii.com.au/img...

Where the PS3 and 360 have games like Mirror's Edge, and Fallout 3 to fill gaps between exclusives the Wii has fewer quality (hardcore) games. Plus the large gap in technology makes it costly to port such games to the Wii.

4. Nintendo and 3rd party companies make what sells. When a game like Wii Play is among the top selling games on the Wii, it is difficult to justify long development times.

3. Nintendo claimed that the core gamers would be satisfied with their E3 presentation like a month before it happened. When E3 came around they announced Wii Music, Wii Sports Resort, and Animal Crossing. People were pissed, and I don't blame them. TGS was better, but still no killer announcements. That is what the author was referring to.

2. Even Haze, Lair, and Too Human could justify their price. They all had at least something going for them (graphics, cult following or whatever). It was also obvious that those games had expensive development time put in. The developers actually tried. The Wii is riddled with mini game...games that are only made because they'll sell well. "Game Party" got a solid 25/100 on Meta Critic, and is one of the Wii's top sellers (over a million). That's a problem.

1. I admit this point is weak. It just sums up how the core gamers that were depending on the Wii for their hardcore game fix feel. Nintendo is trying to deliver what they want, it just takes time. Meanwhile they will have to turn to one of the other consoles for the types of games they want. Animal Crossing just won't appease that part of the market.

The article just talks about the disappointment of a certain part of the gaming market. The Wii is obviously successful and many people enjoy it. Some people are just upset with where Nintendo decided to take the Wii (by making it more casual).

Lot of spinning of facts in there. Nintendo said they would have games around e3.. AROUND E3.. You know when Punch Out and a couple of others were announced.. I guess you also want to act like COD wasnt shown. Madworld wasnt shown and GTA wasnt shown, and Voice Chat(I bet you cried all day because Wii didnt have it but when it was announced you just looked over it)..
It is clear that you want to spin everything that was posted with your own made up BS.Game party is not " One of Wii's top sellers" Yeah it sold well for a 30.00 game but it is at the bottom of the million seller list, behind games like RE,GH, Redsteel and many others.
Just another clueless fanboy wanting to give his uninformed or just ignorant opinion on things he either cant comprehend or refuses to see.
Most of the people that hate on Wii that you call "Core" are actually Sony core gamers just upset that another console has stolen all their glory.I mean you clearly do not own one and know nothing about it. So of course a hating troll isnt happy. You never will be.

It is telling to most REAL gamers that when trolls like you trash the Wii you have to make up the things you are trashing it over or use lame excuses that hold no merit. PS2 had 80% crap in its library, I bet you owned one and those casual kid friendly titles didnt bother you at all. Yeah Wii play sold a lot.. That happens when you put a remote in and charge 10.00 for the game. Stop trying to spin it like everyone went after Wii play for the game alone. It is for the Wii remote inside not the game.

Also nice of you to make excuses for every PS3 flop that had 5 years but dont bother to think about how most dev's wanted nothing to do with WIi until a few months after launch.. Quality takes time but according to you that only applies to other consoles, not the Wii. They should be able to ship 20 AAA titles a month because on Wii games are made simply by thinking about them..I could keep on pointing out ways in which you make yourself look stupid and uninformed, along with bias but I doubt any of these post is on a level that you can comprehend

"There are some good third party games like Boom lox, etc, but a majority of them are horrible."

While this might be true, it doesn't really mean much, given the sheer number of third-party titles that have been released on the Wii. Let's say theoretically that there are two-hundred third party games, and 25% are good. Now, that means that 75% aren't good, but still gives you 50 that are. Is 50 games really an unacceptable number?

"Even Haze, Lair, and Too Human could justify their price. They all had at least something going for them (graphics, cult following or whatever). It was also obvious that those games had expensive development time put in."

Which makes all three of them both terrible *and* costly. Whatever the quality, most mini-game collections on the Wii do not actually go for fifty dollars (Game Party retails for a little over twenty).

Wow...chill out. It's just a console.

First of all "Around E3" doesn't mean at TGS. You can spin it that way if you want, but that's not the impression most people got. Also, GTA was mentioned at E3, it wasn't shown. Plus, it's a DS game. COD on the Wii is just a port, and nothing to get excited over. If you wanted games like COD you probably own another console as well. If you happen to only have a Wii, then I'm sure it'll be a blast to play on that platform. Voice chat is nothing. To me the Wii is an offline multiplayer console. Also, a microphone that sits on your TV isn't really that great for online.

Mad World will probably be balls to the wall awesome.

I just took that Game Party stat from wikipedia. I was simply using that as an example of why third parties tend to release crap. I never said there weren't any good games on the Wii (which there obviously are). Also, Red Steel was sh!t, so I don't know why you used that game as an example.

When I refer to Core gamers I mean people that purchased the Wii for games like Metroid and Zelda rather than Wii Sports. I can imagine that those people are pretty unsatisfied right now. There aren't really any heavy hitting Nintendo games at the moment. If you're satisfied with the games coming out right now, then whatever. Play them and have fun. Don't pretend like you aren't craving another Zelda or something like that though.

It speaks volumes about you that you'd call me a troll/ignorant/fanboy etc. just because I'm confronting some of the Wii's issues rather than blindly defending it. I never made excuses for any PS3/360 flop. In fact, I basically labeled them as sh!t games. You just got so worked up about a different opinion that you started to read my post in the voice of fanboy. Calm down. I don't know if you purposely misquote me, or blood was rushing so fast to your head in that rage that you just couldn't read correctly, but I never said anything like "quality takes time, except on the Wii."

Take off the fanboy glasses once in a while and just read a different opinion. I have no problem with the Wii, and am not a juvenile, so I see no point in being a fanboy against it. Like I have said before, the Wii appeals to a different market and I don't see it as in direct competition with the PS3/360. It's also cheap enough and offers enough exclusives to warrant it's purchase for people that want it as a second/primary console. Just because it doesn't interest me at this point doesn't mean I'm a CRAZY WII BASHING SONY HUGGING FANBOY!!1!!

@Mahr - those are valid points and I concede them. Also I applaud you for presenting them without totally losing it like some of the other people in this thread.

@Enigma_2099 - I have no idea if you're talking to.

"Also, Red Steel was sh!t, so I don't know why you used that game as an example."

I can't speak for voice (pun not intended), but Red Steel's interesting to consider because it wasn't a mini-game collection and wasn't aimed at the 'soccer mom' demographic. Unlike the mold of, say, Carnival Games, Red Steel sold a million plus copies in *spite* of being shovelware, not because of it. Sure, it's one of the worst games released on pretty much any system ever, but it doesn't really fit the perceived archetype of well-selling third-party games.

"When I refer to Core gamers I mean people that purchased the Wii for games like Metroid and Zelda rather than Wii Sports. I can imagine that those people are pretty unsatisfied right now. I can agree with this to an extent. 1st party core franchise titles are definitely in a bit of a drought right now. Part of the problem is that Nintendo didn't really space out its first-party releases very well, i.e., choosing not to stagger the releases of Galaxy/Prime 3 and Mario Kart/Brawl more.

I can't speak for certain, but I believe they were under the impression that they could do this and then in the window between the end of one release cycle of 'core' development (Mario Kart in April) and the beginning of the next (late 2009, early 2010 -- I'd guess a Zelda game, since Twilight Princess was the first title to release), third-parties would step up to fill the void and sell their wares absent any direct competition from first-party titles, save the likes of Wii Music or Animal Crossing (which aren't exactly aimed at the same market).

From a business perspective, this sort of thing actually makes sense. Especially if third parties are intimidated by the possibility of having their games overshadowed and their sales cannibalized by first party releases.

Unfortunately, they miscalculated third-parties getting the idea by about six months or so. There's a rather nice number of really promising third-party games on the way (which, as someone who lived through the N64 and Gamecube era, I never thought I'd be able to say about a Nintendo console again), and more third-parties have stepped up lately than last year (De Blob, Tiger Woods, and World of Goo are utterly *fantastic*, Guitar Hero World Tour looks fun, and Castlevania Judgment seems, in defiance of my expectations, like it might be worth a weekend's rental) but a large chunk of them aren't coming until next year.

Granted, I don't think this drought is even a third as terrible as a lot of people (Mr. White included) are making it out to be, but this situation is certainly less than what I'd call optimal.

...you Sony hugger. ;)

Dammit, are all your arguments that air tight? I guess I kind of overlooked some of the great Wii titles because I was looking for that AAA (a term I fudging hate, btw) exclusive from Nintendo. I honestly forgot about the games like Lego Batman (which is arguably better on the Wii) and World of Goo (which looks awesome), etc.

You pretty much owned me with your logic, so I think I'll just leave now...

Also, World of Goo REALLY should have been a Wii exclusive (rather than PC as well). It's pretty terrible when a game like that get's pirated to such an extent.

That's not really my place to say. Although I can say that unfortunately my powers cannot work on the unreasonable, such as those who dwell in the Open Zone and who are immune to logic.

@ Arius below: Many thanks! It's always nice to know someone appreciates rationality.

"Some people are just upset with where Nintendo decided to take the Wii (by making it more casual)."
When has Nintendo not been casual?

I agree the Nes and Snes were bother very casual. Nintendo didnt start having bad consoles until they decided to focus on the hardcore with the N64.

Yes Mahr's arguments are always that air tight, and he's one of the better posters on this site. I'd reccomend tracking him.
