Well at least this will make them wake up and make the next need for speed like hot pursuit on the ps2.

That was the best need for speed ever.......

i started playing nfs games since number one and stopped when they released nfs underground.

quick quote from wikipedia
"A complete re-imagining of the series' formula, Need for Speed: Underground shifts focus to the import tuner culture..."

yeah, good going EA. i'm pretty sure that sells a lot to casuals but it just doesn't translate into what need for speed used to be all about.
re-imagine it again or let the franchise die.

2.1 - Its a bunch of old guys trying to make games appealing to teenagers
Did you see the video where they were showing off the McCain RV. It was like it was made by MTV but worse. Old people have no clue what young people like.

They've been doing that since NFS:Underground 2. The biggest design flaw in their latest games is that the upgrades don't make your car any better than the competition. What's the point of having them at all?

Hahah yes, i remember playing it on my friends ill fated 3DO and was so amazed by the graphics and would have even bought the damn machine had it not been so expensive. Later when it came out on the pc, i upgraded my cpu to Pentium 90 and then showed my friend that my version was better had even had tire marks from the burn outs. If im not mistaken i was probably having a Diamond monster voodoo 2mb 3d adon card. Man those were the days when you actually gasped at the difference from a non accelerated game to a Glide accelerated game. NOwadays fanboys fight over few pixels of an object.

7 - Underground and Underground 2 were hot for their titme
I remember using Nos for the first time,it sure felt great.

The problem with EA is they're trying too hard to make NFS like 'The Fast and teh Furious' movies, leave all that crap alone and give us a game that feels and plays great

My favorite was need for speed, high stakes, that was the only game where drifting in a corner was actually beneficial, then came porsche unleashed which had so many absolutely awesome racing modes. I loved the car deliveries, requiring the up most in knowledge of tracks, speed and skill.

I used to love NFS, the 3DO version wowed me. It was excellent for its time. But things evolve, as did NFS. It was good in the beginning but gradually went downhill. The FPS genre is now seeing new releases using everything learned from the best bits of games gone by to create a superb overall experience, COD4 for example. The racing genre is so hit and miss at the moment. There is no one outstanding game, or at least one that suits my tastes. Others may disagree, thats fine. I like the PGR series racing but not the structure, dodging cones is not my thing, I like the 360 version of Test Drive, just not enough content and substance for me, I love Gran Turismo, not out for bloody ages !! I loved Grid initially, but only the road circuits and demo derby. They are certainly getting there, NFS needs to decide what it wants to be. I liked it because of the traffic dodging and weight of the vehicles, but that has changed. No racing game has realistic physics incorporated into a chase hq or test drive style game. Thats what I would like...

Road Challenge/High Stakes was an absolute high point. It was easily one of my favourite games for many years. Apart from the pretty excellent Most Wanted, every other NFS game has had absolutely no appeal whatsoever.

14 - Need for Speed was ruined when they released
Underground 2. The first one played on the following of The Fast and The Furious. After that EA started their shovelware strategy of dropping the next edition of the game with in a yrs time. Only way to tell get the point to EA is not buy their games. I used to love madden till they decided to shovel it out the door yr after yr.

I agree and disagree with this guy. I would be considered an "old gamer" when it comes to need for speed. I played the second need for speed on my pc when i was a kid allll the time and loved it. I was also a big fan of hot pursuit. I hated high stakes as i was too mcuh of a kid still so i couldn't handle the difficulty. Meanwhile i fell in love with porcshe unleashed, sure its only about one automaker, but the i loved the damage, the scale of the game and just about everything else. Contrary to what the writer said, I think that the underground games were the best part of the need for speed series, Underground 2 was my all time favorite. The introduction of the mass custumization was enthralling and i loved the open streets environment. Most wanted was also a great game because it stayed with the underground formula but added the cops and some cool cars back in. Now i would say that the downfall of NFS started with Carbon. The instant i popped carbon in, i felt that i had played it before. It was basically a boring version on UNderground 2. Now prostreet was truly awful, terrible controls, and the game just felt slow and boring. I havn't play undercover but im gonna rent it anyways to see what all the fuss is about. I hope that NFS can recover from all of this.

EA made a big mistake going to underground 2... things may evolve but Japanese street racing and pimping your ride etc, is not the NFS way, or "Was" the NFS way, considering the way the title is headed now.

In my opinion the tuning options that the game introduced made the game a lot deeper and more entralling. Therefore, it was more worth your money than a game where you just race, with nothing to do in between.

I guess that is a good point really. A simple game with hot pursuit and racing, with some level of car customization. Would work :D

17 - My favourite had to be High Stakes
My first NFS game was NFS3, and I thought, "Wow, this series ROCKS!" Then I bought NFS4 a few months later, and just about wet myself when I saw the 3D car interiors with working gauges with lights and stuff... even if it was NFS3 Special Edition in terms of added content. When I bought NFS6 (Hot Pursuit 2) I thought it was a good racer, but it lacked a lot of the options of earlier NFS games (like night driving, toggling headlights, car interiors, and weather). It still was an excellent racing game in its own right. When I tried NFS Underground 2, I thought it was fun, but at the same time, it just wasn't NFS for me. NFS is the older games. Now, with Carbon and Undercover and all those games, NFS is completely foreign to me. If they remade something akin to High Stakes but on a modern engine with all the features of both, I think they'd be onto something.

18 - Ummmm...?
"When you actually start a race, you are limited to the track assigned, so this means there is no way of taking short cuts through the city, which made the idea introducing free-roam, totally pointless."

I am pretty sure the game was always like that for the most part. If you want to free-roam while racing go buy Midnight Club: Los Angeles (which I have too btw).

After all these years, still the best NFS game of the series. With Undercover, I might, MIGHT rent this but am holding it off as long as possible.

for the first time since I been on N4G I gave everyone agree's we all agree undercover SUCK'S BIG BALLS!!!!
and im sure this time around EA will be listening to us with wide open ears. like someone said above "dont buy this game" EA will pay attention now. if only they'll up-grade high stakes and hotpursuit then they'll have a brain blast game. I hated mostwanted, carbon, prostreets, and im sure undercover will stink too. have not bought any NFS since underground.
