Nintendo: We Will Have Games In 2009 For The 'Halo' Crowd

Stephen Totilo from MTV Multiplayer writes:

"Nintendo has moms and Mario/Zelda fans locked up.

But, since the Wii launched in 2006, the company has had a hard time attracting the hardcore gamers who enjoy things like "Halo," "BioShock" or "Call of Duty."

Nintendo itself, former publisher of "GoldenEye," hasn't even made a game for that crowd since, arguably, the summer of 2007 when "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" was released.

Is Nintendo not seeking that "Halo"-loving customer?

Nintendo executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway told me last week that the company can get those gamers and has software coming in 2009 that will do the trick."

To be frank, I'm getting tired of all of the first-person shooters. Bioshock didn't interest me, and Halo never has. CoD4 did something great, though. I still love the original CoD more though. I also still love the Half-Life series. I hope the Conduit manages to pull off some of that magic.

I think that I would like a bit more core games. They do have a crapload of money right now, and it'd be a waste not to put it to use on some IP that may bring some of the core back to the wii...Sin and Punishment 2 sounds like a good start.

I cannot think of a single game Nintendo could make that appeals to the Halo crowd... Mario with sligshots doesn't count, Metroid is more like Bioshock than Halo, Zelda is an adventure...

seriously I got nothing, maybe a new franchise..

He was just interested xD nothing more to it.
He also said that he isn't going after the Halo crowd, i remember this from an article...that was posted a year ago or something.
Saying that he is after what the japanese demograph would like...and things he would like to play himself. " HALO " is clearly meant for the western demograph.
His games will always be made in his fashion.

Also Don't forget Metroid is not made by Miyamoto, there are other developers at Nintendo too.

metroid prime impressed me, it always has. One of only a few first-person games that has an adventure feel to it. A few of the devs left Retro and made a new company that will be making 360/ps3 games, cannot wait for that.

i never got into metroid for some reason, the controls seemed awkward to me? But i know that the metriod series has a decent story and adventure aspect to the series, but just not my cup of tea i guess.

Understandable, story wise its typical vague nintendo fair but the art style was very good. The first was easily the best and made you feel completely alone on a living planet.

Atmosphere is a mixed bag in games, KZ2 looks like it will have an exceptional atmosphere as well. Bioshock was cool too.

Don't see enough engrossing atmospheres out there!

im in the killzone 2 beta, and yes the atmosphere is really strong in this game. With the feeling of dread and a ravaged land that has seen some fierce battles. That is the first thing you notice besides the awesome graphics. With the wind blowing around and missiles shooting over head, it pulls you in. Much like the first metroid as i remember, not that i played much but i could tell like you said that it felt like you were all alone.

Awesome your in the beta, all I can base KZ2 on is videos. I'm still hoping a contest will show up and offer more codes... The lightning and storms over head on one of those maps is outstanding. I saw a 1up video that showed GG takes some of the scenes in their maps from real-world places, I think that may be (in part) what makes the atmosphere so convincing.

when explosions go off and the particles bounce off the walls and the floor with its own physics, or when the particles are being blown by a gust of wind that is coming by, it just is so awesome. Plus hearing lighting going on and looking up at the sky and seeing it strike across the screen, you really feel like your on a god forsaken planet. The helgast sure have it tough, ahaha.

Punch Out was out before MIke Tysons Punch Out. He wasnt in the arcade version at all. Not sure what rinse and repeat is suppose to mean. Other than it meaning that you are not as informed about this game as you want others to think...

That shows how ignorant you are considering the fact that you didn't even bother seeing the games that Cammie is talking about. And you also think that by that they mean Nintendo games. No. The hardcore games coming out in '09 that Cammie is talking about are 3rd-Party titles.
