Did Nintendo 'Jump the Shark' with Wii Music?

Gamerdeals.net writes:

"'Jumping the Shark':

The phrase refers to a scene in a three-part episode of the American TV series, Happy Days, first broadcast on September 20, 1977. In the third of the three parts of the "Hollywood" episode, Fonzie (Henry Winkler), wearing swim trunks and his trademark leather jacket, jumps over a penned-in shark while water skiing.

Jumping the shark is a colloquialism used by TV critics and fans to denote that point in a TV show or movie series' history where the plot veers off into absurd story lines or out-of-the-ordinary characterizations. In the process of undergoing these changes, the TV or movie series loses its original appeal. Shows that have "jumped the shark" are typically deemed to have passed their peak.

The phrase has been used more recently outside the realm of popular culture, representing anything that has reached its peak and has turned mediocre."

1.1 - 24 jumped the shark
when it was revealed the President was behind all of the events of Season 5.

I am still waiting for it to recover. That said, I have high hopes for Season 7.

Oh wait, this was about Wii Music? Nintendo jumped the shark with the Wii but that will never affect them...for this gen at least.

they did, actually they jumped the shark a long time ago, with stuff like wii fit and the aditude that the Wii was better than a video games consol and it should receive a place of reversnce in every home like some kind of shrine or alter to Nintendo for being so amazing that they offered us the ability to roughly mimick the actions we can preform on our own accord any day... "look mom I'm playing tennis! I'm doing Yoga!"

-Someone let me know when NMH3 comes out so I can plug my wii in again.

Sure thing! In the meantime, the Wii will continue to sell and do fine without you playing it :)

"they did, actually they jumped the shark a long time ago, with stuff like wii fit "

Funny, Wii fit did it not The casual games from the NES...
O and Mario paint was so GH, thats why we all loved it!.

Yay for great logic!

" Ninty's given up on the hardcore this gen. "

Explain, i mean their main titles, known for so many years...they will now dump those titles?
Lol!.

Iwata even said that Wii-sports becomes boring at some point they know they can't only lean on the "casual"crowd.
Also if a game like Re:4 sells so well on the Wii, it's clearly that there is a "hardcore"crowd on the Wii too.
No reason to ignore them, this is bizz and money is what they want.

If they revive Punch out, There is only more "hope" for "core"titles...also return of the Kirby platformer on the Consoles...=D

I think Nintendo is over-confident. They've been quite lucky up until now but I think they're going to realize soon that Miyamoto doesn't just lay golden eggs. Every once in a while when he squats some crap's is bound to come out.

7 - Oh the irony
This article summary really jumped the shark, going in-depth on the idiom and not at all addressing the question it raises in its title.

Not that I didn't find it interesting.

Wii music was a great concept but they executed it very poorly. The music is all midi which is very crappy when you are talking about the joy of making music. Had everything been real sounds and not crappy Midi sounding things then maybe people would have liked to get involved. I mean who wouldn't like to mess around with beats and pleasant melodies it's compelling stuff however the execution just isn't there.
