Wii Music sells TWO copies in Houston today

Sarcastic Gamer writes:

"On a whim, I called Gamestop today, to ask how Wii Music was selling.

The game went on sale today.

"I have a huge stack sitting on the counter, but so far we haven't sold a single one," said an associate at one store.

Intrigued, I called them all. Every single EB Games and Gamestop in the Houston Metropolitan Area, the 4th largest city in the United States. As of 4:30 today, "

1.4 - well the truth is
the reason people rip on the wii is because nintendo didnt have to put near as much money into their system and they are still owning in sales, and the fact that they are going for casual gamers only helps their sales considering they dont get bored of games as fast, they are a much bigger audience and they are easier to please with games liek this game wii music im sure after the casual gamers find out about it they will buy it, but im pretty sure they dont shop at gamestop probably like walmart or target, and they dont take time to look up which system is better like ohh that has better graphics and more hardware space so im gonna get that over wii and praise it and buy the next system like ps4 that is only going to have better graphics and more hardware space, no they just care about what looks more fun, sitting there pushing buttons or standing up moving your arms or bending over and other movements. The Wii is a family console unlike ps3 and xbox360, it will have non gamers in the family to play like grandparents and parents. So if Sony and Microsoft copy Nintendo with motion sensing for their next console I dont think it will do so good considering all these ps3 and 360 fanboys are saying that that type of gameplay is lame and has bad controls, so unless they are ripping on it just because their console doesnt have it, it wont do so good, and another reason is if they try to please the casual audience they will also fail because they like cheap consoles they arnt gonna want to pay $400 for a console that has less casual games and just for better graphics which they dont care about. From their veiw they will think, hey its the same thing why pay more? Sony and Microsoft should just practicaly ignore nintendo and leave them to do their own thing and they can race eachother in this console race because it seems nintendo wants to go a different direction then them and they would be not to smart to follow nintendo. They should just stick with hardcore gamers and increasing the graphics and more hardware space and maybe something new and sweet every once in a while. Please agree or disagree or bubble or reply i want to know other peoples opinions to this

I'm a fan of the Wii, but I was always a bit apprehensive about the Wii. And now after reading the reviews on it, I believe it's trash. Outdated midi music, public domain songs, flailing the Wii remote with no strategy to win the composing part, and no actual challenge? This is absolute trash at its absolute trashiest. I hope this sells nothing.

I hope not. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's and I have been my entire life, but this game being a flop is crucial to them learning their lesson.

I know us hardcore crowd are hard to please, but when you look at the 360 and PS3's releases, who wouldn't be?

I doubt most casual gamers buy at Gamestop. Calling more mainstream outlets would probably reveal more sales.

so basically you don't want this to sell while it could help lots of kids to get an interest in music.

You guys are so freaking narrow minded FFS.

It really pisses me off, why can't you guys be happy for those who might actually enjoy this? why does everything have to be so f*cking stereotypical with video games.

I think he doesn't want it to sell because he would rather have Nintendo putting resourse into the next Mario or Zelda. (Or Metroid as his avatar suggests)
I feel the same way. I hope this fails.

And what is wrong with giving kids real music lessons to encourage them into music. Surely a harmonica is closer to music than Wii music is, and harmonicas are cheap enough for everyone to afford.
And they take a modicum of skill to learn.

Wii Music is the sort of lazy solution that mixes a cartoon with basic timing. No music is played. The player is essentially a glorified metronome.

If there were no sh1tty casual games like this for kids to play then I'd have no problem thinking "Well at least they have Wii Music" BUT there are frickin' thousands of them!

We're human, we're selfish and we want non-games like this to fail, so that Nintendo go back to developing real games. We are on News4Gamers after all. So I imagine many people on here may share my opinion. Maybe we should all head to the open zone to discuss this product.

Feel free to leave this article to the next Nintendo Wii game that needs defending. Or as you said the other day you would defend it if it was on Sony or Microsoft.

"Defending Nintendo WTF?
Even if it were a MS or Sony product i would defend it. "

In which case I'll catch up with you in the next EyePet or Lips flamebait article to witness you defending those titles. What was the last Sony game you defended...just out of interest?

Let us have our opinion. We're not hating on Nintendo ... just this non-game.
And don't worry about the kids, they will be fine they have plenty of other products coming out for Christmas that pretend to be teaching them something when in actual fact they are just time wasters.

i want it to fail cuz i think they really dind't put passion enough on the game, it's just not like nintendo...

i really think it would be even a little fun, but if this thing sell, and they think that this type of game that the Wii owners want huh?

i too think the kids need some love too, but i think they should put more passion in a game than they put it on this...

EDIT: jay2 above said it all, put some real passion on the game that would not hope for it to fail...

Fair comment kes. I see where you're coming from.

I suppose it is because we're used to seeing such attention to detail and passion from Nintendo.
Even in Ocarina of Time back on the N64, Nintendo made sure Link's feet rested on each rung of a ladder as he climbed or descended. While other game companies had the players almost floating up ladders with feet resting in mid air. (No-one else was doing stuff like that back then)
It's little things like that that you notice when playing a Nintendo game that show how much passion and effort they put in.

I totally see what you mean. I don't get that feeling from Wii Music.

I still think Wii Music will sell though. Much as I don't want it to. Once the TV Spots appear expect the units to fly off shelves.

17.1 - I agree with you, but what's there to 'get'? It's very simple...
Nintendo is trying to cash in on the Rock Band/ Guitar Hero money train. Except everone who wants a game like that ALREADY HAS ONE. I doubt they are going to think to themselves, "Hey, I want to play the Mario theme song, I wish Nintendo would find a clunky way for me to spend my money!"

Nintendo wants an IP they can profit from and control completely, unfortunatly the market is crowded with this crap. I like Guitar Hero, but come on, it's not really a game, nobody is learning guitar and eventually people will realize real metal bands are like King Diamond or Morbid Angel not nu-Metallica.

What I don't get are the endless parade of multiplatform (360/PS3/Wii) games that end up on the Wii only to suck the big Wii-Mote. Poor 3rd party support and lack of a strong 1st party line-up is going to hurt Nintendo in the long run. That all anyone needs to 'get'.

That would be because it is not a game. Mr. Miyamoto said it himself. Wii music shouldn't be seen as a game but a toy. Miyamoto said he is tired of making games. He want's to make toys now. Honestly Nintendo is in a different market then the rest of the gaming community and thus should be judged differently. However sales should speak for themselves. Their product (this "game" not the Wii) is doing poorly. They should re-evaluate any future titles that are being created with the same ideas of what is fun.

18 - Funny and sad at the same time.
Mostly funny. Maybe the trend is dying down finally and the hipsters have found something else. With a recession here people who are not hardcore gamers are not going to spend money on many video games. It is the hardcore crowd that is going to carry the industry past any threshold of a crippled economy. Since the Nintendo's Wii has very few HC gamers, their attachment rate may fall because non-gamers are not willing to delay food for fun. I bet Reggie wishes he didn't blow off the hardcore gamers at E3 now. Sega for the win!

in fact is useful for the fact that it shows that the wii gamers don't swallow all the shovelware, we really think that some of them are really fun (like raving rabbids and Dokapon kingdom) but we don't fool ourselves with this crap of game that is Wii Music.

i still want a sci-fi zelda and a SW battlefront like Starfox MMO...

we are still hardcore, we are only more indulgent with the games...

20.2 - Kesvalk
actually that doesn't necessarly mean that Wii owners don't just throw money away on shovelware; It could mean that the attachment rate for the Wii is low. Since many people bought the Wii are not traditional gamers they most likely will not buy many games. They have fun with Wii Sports etc. For example, I know quite a few people who got a N64 as a gift or personal purchase but never bought anything other than Mario 64 or Golden Eye, and just like the Dreamcast, N64 sold well but lacked attachment the attachment rate that 3rd party want. Attachment rates are just as important as console sales, the only difference is Nintendo is riding completely off of hardware sales and that will only last so long.
