The Wii is Art

The Wii has become a fine wine that is left to age. It has become more of a statement than a next-gen console, and with a constant state of demand its customer satisfaction will never suffer, no matter how useless the system.

The sentiment in the article is shared by many but I think the different view of the Wii as an actual piece of art which serves no other purpose is interesting.

Yeah, most people that aren't really into gaming are buying the Wii for the same reasons they buy a new brand name piece of clothing or accessory. It's a social status item that you want to have in your living room to show people when they come over.

I have to say that I've actually been using my Wii a lot more lately, which is really the first time I've given the console a good amount of play time. There's finally some games that I think are worth playing on a regular basis for the system

1.4 - dude, the people reading this are only wii users, wii gets no news on this site as much
i was a wii owner when it was released. before the system was released, the video when they announced the system was release (it can still be found) and they goes on talking about the "amazing" graphics, which was bullcrap. and then they released pictures of splinter cell which looked great but then the pictures were fake ( http://media.wii.ign.com/me... and it sucks because i brought the system and that exact game. HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT! then i brought Zelda which was a great game, but then i played the gamecube version and saw that it was the same exact crap. the only game i love is No More Heroes but other than that, i would stick with what i said earlier "wii is a crappy system". they saying its a family system because it cannot be anything else, sucks that some wii games have less graphics then ps2.

Yeah, Tiger Woods has done it for me too. It just works so well. I think games like The Conduit will also give a lot to the Wii. Also looking forward to MySims Kingdom and Animal Crossing

Unfortunately yet another article full of opinionated rant.

Although saying that i will admit the wii on occassion does have droughts with games.....but just like Ricky Bobby said things are starting to turn around and your starting to see that with third party support.

Yea i have Tiger Woods and must say even though its not 1:1 its a very fun game which is way more challenging then other versions which i like.Motion Plus better bring great tennis titles though Top Spin was horrible and it will only bring perfection to Tiger Woods.

@ Product:

Since when did opinionated rants become new to n4g? I would rather read something of this nature than another PS3 vs Xbox 360 fanboy flame fest or some rumor someone made up to get hits.

true but then again these are the types of wii articles make the ps3 and 360 fans come over to give their opinion and we all know where that leads.
Proof in this......go over to the open zone and look what someone posted under what we all said......its already stating.

the wii's last gen tech hold back wii motion controls

take moh:heros 2,the control is amazing and at the same time the game is terribly outdated, moh:frontline released 2002 on ps2 had much better graphics and gameplay

just imagine if wii is as powerful as 360\ps3,imagine resistance,mgs4 and cod 4 with this amazing controls

the conduit has a very nice spot but am afraid killzone 2 might trumps it

the graphics moves the already talented developers to new heights, can you imagine uncharted, cod 4,mgs 4 on wii?

imagine that carefully and just look at the force unleashed on wii,the force unleahed on 360 and ps3 is not as impressive as those games above,so it should be easier to do on wii,and see what happens, graphics, gameplay, leve ls,scope, number of enemies, sound, all of these thing has been downgraded and also no euphoria or dmm tech which help the combat to be a little bit more satisfying and more fresh, dead rising on wii is absolutely crap, just read kotaku's preview

wii motion imo is a great great idea, but last gen tech hold everything back

The Wii is the least interesting console on the market, with one or two titles worth purchasing.

The games on the Wii aren't the problem, but rather the hardware. I know some games on the Wii is just fantastic, but the fact that the Wii can't give me crisp PS2-Xbox graphics on my HDTV is reason enough for me to ditch it. I can't have an outdated console making my investments look bad. Also most of my friends aren't into the Wii, so even more reason. I get more playing time out of my 360/PS3.

8.1 - Investments?
Sorry to break it to you, but the moment you bought your HD tv, its value went down as compared to a brand new one, and that value will never be regained. You might want to just think of your tv as what it is, an awesome form of entertainment. Which is what all 3 consoles are in their own way also. Any decent HD tv can make Wii games look as good as they were intended to look if you have the right cable. (Provided your screen isn't the size of your wall that is.) And 480p graphics don't look bad at all when the work is put into games. It just isn't HD.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the Wii is like art, I would compare it more to a fad something like the Rubix Cube. If you were around in the 80's everyone had a Rubix Cube. If you weren't playing with one then you weren't "in". Was it fun? I guess it was fun for a bit. Something to do while your friend took his turn on Atari Pitfall or you were in the car driving to Grandma's and dreaming of the day you could watch movies from the backseat.

Then all of a sudden something happened and no one really bought the Rubix Cube anymore. The people that were into them moved on to something new: the Sony Walkman and Pop Rocks

The Wii is alot like the Rubix Cube. The casuals that are into it will move on eventually to something new.

There is a danger from publishers/developers of moving too wholeheartedly to the casual gamer. They may be in vogue today, but you take a chance that the market may not be there tomorrow.

Just keep the hate coming. While I get ready for some Punch Out, Sin and Punishment 2, Animal Crossing, Guitar Hero World Tour, Tiger Woods 09, The Conduit, Madworld, Monster Hunter 3, Arc Rise of Fantasia, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, No More Heroes Desprite Struggle, Valhalla Knights, and Red Steel 2. Yeah there is a lot of crap on the wii but dont disregard the good games coming out.

That was probably the most poorly written article I've ever read. Five commas in one sentence is normally 4 too many.

I like the Wii, but the waxing poetic junk in the article is just too much. It is my experience with the machine that Nintendo is the only company that knows how to make decent games for it. So you end up with the latest iteration of the same old "classics" and not much new and exciting. That's why half of the Wii's library is pure shovelware.

Im getting sick of posts like this. People are always gonna try to say their system is better and the reason people rip on the wii is because nintendo didnt have to put near as much money into their system and they are still owning in sales, and the fact that they are going for casual gamers only helps their sales considering they dont get bored of games as fast and they are a much bigger audience and they dont take time to look up which system is better like ohh that has better graphics and more hardware space so im gonna get that over wii, no they just care about what looks more fun, sitting there pushing buttons or standing up moving your arms or bending over and other movements. The wii is a family console unlike ps3 and xbox360, it will have non gamers in the family to play like grandparents and parents. So if sony and microsoft copy nintendo with motion sensing for their next console i dont think it will do so good considering all these ps3 and 360 fanboys are saying that that type of gameplay is lame and has bad controls, so unless they are ripping on it just because their console doesnt have it, it wont do so good, and another reason is if they try to please the casual audience they will also fail because they like cheap consoles they arnt gonna want to pay $400 for a console that has less casual games and just for better graphics which they dont care about. From their veiw they will think, hey its the same thing why pay more? Sony and Microsoft should just practicaly ignore nintendo and leave them to do their own thing and they can race eachother in thsi console race because it seems nintendo wants to go a different direction then them and they would be not to smart to follow nintendo. They should just stick with hardcore gamers and increasing the graphics and more hardware space and maybe something new and sweet every once in a while. Please agree or disagree or bubble or reply i want to know other peoples opinions

"Wii has no games" shtick is getting old. They have plenty of titles and getting more. Nintendo didn't even attend TGS but had tons of 3rd parties showcasing Wii products. MH3's line was huge, reminded me of E3 06 when Wii was shown to the public for hands on time. But I think its about time fanboys need to move on to a new punch-line for Wii, because first it was a fad, then it was only for soccer milfs, then its it has no games, or Wii third party games don't sell. Every single one of these punchlines have been proven to be falsehoods. 2009 is looking awesome for Wii gamers, or rather gamers as a whole. If nothing Wii has to offer interests you, I'll say that's pretty strange. Especially for those highly anticipating Gears 2 or LBP..But if that is the case I have to ask, Why the hell are you guys always frequenting Wii news?
