What Took So Long for Nintendo's SD Card Storage Solution?

Kombo writes: "Since the console's launch, Wii owners have been vocal about the system's lack of storage space for things like game saves and downloads, demanding that Nintendo address the issue. Last week, Nintendo finally announced a solution -- enabling the option to save data to an SD Card. Considering SD Card support has been available in the Wii since its release, we're curious what took Nintendo so long to allow it to be used in this manner. At Nintendo's recent Media Summit event, we asked the company's Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Charlie Scibetta, what took so long to give gamers this solution."

guy's full of crap...
they're afraid of pirating becoming more mainstream and they're trying to close any and all loopholes the homebrew community might exploit, they're afraid of another twilight princes hack, period....

by the way, this is not a storeage solution... stop calling it that, for the love of god.

I'm sure there is a "Wii owners don't buy games because the system doesn't have enough decent games to take up the space already available" joke in there somewhere. But I'm too tired to pull something out.

In the meantime, I will just say--

Release more decent games Nintendo and third party devs. I only have Zelda (hated Mario, Metroid and No More Heroes) and about 11 VC games. Only then will this storage upgrade matter to me.

Wait... You are actually trying to claim that nobody buys Wii games?? Where the heck have you been under a rock? They sale way more software than Sony and most of the time more than 360.. How can anyone so clueless have so many bubles?.. @chanmasta.. You are not talking to a real Wii owner. You are talking to a hater who is using already disproven info to try to justify his blind hate of a product he does not own. You can name off quality games all day but he will hate them all simply based off the console they appear on. Not like he has any actual play time with any of them.

Dude if you didn't like Metroid, nor Mario " I; can understand No More Heroes-acquired taste-:)" then give up your Wii and get something else cause the Wii is not for you.

Uh..Captain_Sony, I actually do own a Wii but it doesn't matter if I say so because you won't believe it. And I bought everyone of those games I mentioned when they were released. I just realized that, aside from Zelda (which I love despite the fact every 3D version of game is essentially the same), I don't find the same enjoyment with those series as I did in the past. Mario especially. I just did not enjoy Mario Galaxy. Plain and simple.

As far as the systems other big releases, specifically Smash Brothers and Mario Kart, I will not throw down $50 for for essentially prettier versions of their Gamecube counterparts. But then again, I feel the same way about buying any of the sports games that come out yearly. As for de Blob, I am very tempted to check it out but having all three systems, rent, and other monthly payments it really becomes a matter of "which game do I want to play more." I do have a birthday this month and an expected raise following the election, so I will play de Blob eventually.

And I agree with Condorstrike that No More Heroes is an acquired taste. Again, I really wanted to like the game, and I loved the story and the rather craziness of it, but I just found the gameplay boring. Driving around on the motorcycle with the stiff controls in a virtually empty world and using the same motions (despite the rather deep control scheme) because there is no incentive not to in order to beat your targets just wasn't fun for me.

While I agree that maybe the Wii isn't for me, I've got hopes for some upcoming games--Tales of Symphonia 2, Star Wars Lightsaber Duels and Castlevania Judgment, specifically. In the meantime, I do enjoy playing the old Gamecube games I missed out on because I didn't have a Gamecube last-gen. And I can't discount the coolness of the VC library--Comix Zone and Bonk ftw!
