Yet u probably had no problem with the ps1 and 2 having loads of sh*tty shovelware. The psOne was stock to the brim of crappy games. The ps2 was the most popular last gen so it had the most (and the gamecube had heaps less). Now the wii is the most popular and it has the most.

It doesnt take too much to understand this yet ppl always get amnesia when it comes to shovelware considering sony flooded the market with it with the psOne.

O but now u blame nintendo. Well bravo. considering nintendo doesnt make the crap, its 3rd party companys that do.

My answer - Well nintendo sure seem to make pretty good games....Mario galaxy got game of the year for 99% of gaming sites and magazines. So it doesnt make sense that a "crappy" machine can produce a game of the year now does it....like u said its about the "quality".

Are the games u played and loved on the ps2 STILL quailty now that they are "last gen" graphics>? Or are they STILL great games to play even tho they are last gen>?

he could use as example the PS3 better but even the PS3 has a couple of tittles to defend itself. the Wii it's not selling because it has a lot of great games, the Wii it's selling because of the way you play the games. the masses are impress and are still riding the wave of novelty that the Wii presents with its motion sensing controller and other peripherals. the amount of shovelware in the Wii outweighs for a considerable margin the number of great games on the system and that's why in this case we care about this and use it as a negative point to bash on the Wii but we didn't care when the PS1 and PS2 got them(the bunch of crappy games).

Fair enough, although I'm not particularly certain of the extent that it's valid to compare the libraries of systems that were/have been out for eleven years and eight years respectively to the library of a system that's been out for around, uh, two or so if I'm not mistaken.

Well, I'm not actually inside his head and he's not here to speak for himself, but I don't think he was actually bashing either system. I think he was actually saying that a system can be great in spite of an ocean of shovelware and that when measuring a system, it's somewhat unfair to measure by the worst it has to offer.

I don't think you or I or even he would disagree too strongly on that point.

Well, there, I'd have to disagree with you a bit, as I'm not a big fan of broad, sweeping generalizations that deal with over 30 million people. For instance, I myself own a Wii because I think it's a lot of fun, possibly the most fun I've had this generation.

Well, here you lost me, because it sounds like you're advocating some kind of ratio of good games to bad games as a measurement of how a console is. And I really don't think that's a very useful way of going about things. I mean, if a system has a hundred good games and a thousand terrible games, then that's a ratio of ten terrible games for every good game and the bad games outnumber the good. And a system with only one bad game and ten good games would have a ten good games to one terrible. Does that make the second hypothetical system a better system than the first?

I'm not a big fan of using ratios as measures of success, as I don't really think ratios operate on a level that we as consumers are capable of actually perceiving outside of some vague, number-crunching mathematical calculations.

That, and there's the obvious difficulty in how one even defines what a "great" game actually is, given that most people have different tastes and personal preferences when it comes to gaming.

Actually, I don't ever really use either of those buttons. If I agree or disagree with a post, then I write a post myself to get the point across. Actually clicking some kind of link to indicate my view seems kinda redundant to me. And as for the bubbles thing, I only give people bubbles as I don't particularly agree with N4G's policy of "You get X number of posts on a topic" policy. I mean, if people have something they want to say on something, they should be able to say it.

You act as though Wii does not have any quality games as well. It does.PS2 had about 30% good games.70 Kids games,casual games and complete crap shovel ware. What you are trying to argue with are games from throughout the PS2's life span. Nobody can argue against 8 years of games with a machine thats only had 2 yers to have games out. Of course you can name a good bit of PS2 games off. No system will probably ever beat the PS2 over all but that does not mean that it was all quality or mainly quality. I would suggest looking into the PS2 library a little more. Strawberry shortcake, redneck rampage, Postman Pat, Power Rangers, everybody's golf,High School musical,James Bond Nightfire,Iron man, Enter the Matrix, Simpsons road rage, Finding Nemo, Shrek 2, Scoobie Doo,Arcana Heart, wall-E, Cars Pacman, Spongebob, Chaos Wars, Jackass, Jaws Unleashed,Bratz, Fiesta Hyper girls party. I could honestly keep going. I also found it odd as I looked over the PS2 library that many of the games people make fun of on Wii are also on PS2. You really do not want to start talking about games off PS2. Sure you can pull up 8 years worth of decent or better games, but you can also pull up a much bigger list of games that most would consider garbage. The best thing to do about the Wii if you are one of those that hates it is to just leave it alone and not bother yourself with it. You do not make PS3, or 360 fans look very good when you are acting like a jerk on here. Your opinion does not equal fact. No amount of insulting someone else will change that or make you right. I have no interest in the 360 myself so I couldnt tell you anything about it. I do not go to the 360 news on any site. I think some of you would be a lot happier if you just stayed away from anything related to the Wii because it is obvious you do not want to discuss anything. Just hate. Hate never accomplishes anything so no point in having it here. As for when the ps4 launches look at the other three launch periods and that should be a decent idea as to what to expect. How about you, actually look at some of the ps3's games instead of talking out of your ass.

As for ps1 and ps2 shovelware vs good games averyangry_bot said it just fine.

And better graphics doesn't always equal a better game, the game i have played the most is probably fairly low of the graphics teir for the ps3.

Disgaea 3 100+ hrs of playtime and the the fact that the graphics aren't making my eyes bleed doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The reason people don't give most ps2 or xbox games a ration of sh^t about the level of graphics, is because at its time it was the best hardware available at the time.

It is not the same case for the wii, i never understood why some wii owners cannot grasp that kick ass graphics and solid gameplay can coexist on ps3/360 games.

The fact that the PS2/Xbox had the best hardware of last gen doesn't take any credibility from his point. Comparitively poor graphics to the gaming world of today, still had great games. Contrary to what YOU believe, the Wii does have good games. For example, Punch Out!!! was one of the best boxing games ever made (imo), remake or not, are you saying you have no interest in playing it? Graphics =/= everything. It's the whole package that makes a game.

gano Two years later the PS4 will be released. I'm just wondering what do you think SONY will use in it? ATI currently makes the best GPU for HD gaming on the PC side and really the price of those chips for the 4700 cards will be pretty cheap after all the die shrinks. A Wii HD could be the same price as the current Wii in 2011. In four years lots could happen. Larrabee will be seen in PCs and possibly even the next Wii.

The Wii's chip set is already showing some impressive results with only 88 megs of ram on die with chips that are not running at Ghz yet. Make you wonder what a speed ramp with multiple cores would do. Add a ring bus in there so all the GPU parts can team up if a pool of 88x4 352 megs of ram and you have your self a very sick system for HD. The cost of an actually Wii chip set would be enough to put it into the next gameboy after die shrinks.

The graphics tech had some maturing to do though and it's happening now. The next Wii will be a snes like machine which means it's the Wii yet in a very hardcore HD capable set up that still is affordable to the expanded audience.

If you have seen crysis then that is the ceiling the HD system are working with right now. It's not going to get much higher than than unless larrabee is what every one is saying it is.

The next xbox and PS4 will not have a huge jump in graphics if they are going to use an old PC solution again. This will let nintendo improve there system while the HD guys just stay the same. Franchises can be tested and made on the Wii and expanded into HD game play on the next system which has to support every thing that nintendo is currently doing.

Most people are talking about the blue ocean but after the success the next blue ocean becomes the actually hardcore HD gamers. If SONY and MS try to come out with $600 systems again then they will be shooting them selves in the foot because the current HD standard for gaming is clearly good enough and most console gamers are not impressed by PC HD graphics.

The Wii has actually corrected the market rather than close it off from new an past players. With out those gamers gaming could die. The example is PC gaming of course. Only certain games sell on those systems.

Nintendo was smart to skip this pricey transition. It reminds me when I had to buy loads of ram back in the day that cost me $1000s of dollar just to get 4 times that amount for the same price. There is wisdom in skipping transition periods and letting the noobs eat the bill some times. That is what nintendo has done.

This is people comparing the three systems and seeing that they like more games on the PS3/X360, thats it. As gamers I think we all have a place in our hearts for Nintendo, but the Wii is a toy, and for gamers it's almost insulting. Now there are you guys who will take my bubbles or what ever you do when you get mad, but as a gamers I don't see enough to justify picking one up. Me and my brother have a Wii and I never play it, it's basically his. Super Mario Galaxy was a blast and I'll probably pick up Mad World, but beyond that, there is no reason to own that machine.

Now, this is Nintendo so I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I truly hope they come next time with games, not just a simple ass controller, and a low price point.

It's important that Gameplay should be valued, but in this age of gaming, graphics, art direction, and presentation play equally important roles. I used to think that gameplay > graphics until I owned a Wii and could not stand the graphics, presentation, sub-HD res, blurry screen, black bars all over my HDTV. And then there's games that look great, but play horribly.

I say great games are the ones that can masterfully wield both hand-in-hand. SO far LBP and Killzone 2 are looking to define that meaning.

LOL Mini Mario I'm just wonder why you answered his question with a totally different argument? He was talking about the PS3 running better than a Wii HD. The funny thing is it's coming in 2011 rumored to be coming then on top of that he does not know what it is using to produce those HD graphics. They could use some sort of line doubler in hardware or they could be talking about the next gen race starting in 2011. Now if that is the case then the Wii HD could easily look better than the up coming PS4 or xbox next. It all is decided on how they go with for the graphics and what is the most affordable at the time.

I mean you can get a Radeon HD 4870 for $270 now that card runs crysis just fine. This card $ 57.99-geforce 8600 gts would easily out do any thing on an HD console right now. It was out before the PS3 if I remember. So I mean really Nintendo are the guys that used SGI guys to help make their cards SONY made the PS1 with out a z buffer LOL. Nintendo's old hardware with a increase may not be doing HD graphics but it still is kicking a$$ sales wise. Yet the PS2 has died off totally. Hey but that's not about power though. I'm thinking MS will out spend SONY next time and SONY will come up with some great sounding ideas to get every one hype but give us a spec increase.

SONY and MS can not pull a core duo because they don't have the talent that intel has tech wise. ATI and Nvidia will make you pay for their tech LOL. So basically nintendo just has to get parts that are actually ready for mass market instead of taking a loss. You could have ran UT3 6 years ago but you needed a quad sli set up and lots of ram. Now it runs on low end systems and even PS3s. Tech and good coding makes up for over spending on R&D.

Lots of die shrinks and new chips appearing. The GPCPU war officially starts. tech wise there are lots of things yet I have no Idea if japan is going to make any thing worth competing with. Who knows things have been quiet over there. No power VR stuff yet it makes a come back with larrebee in a tile render idea.

A couple of misconceptions there.

When Sony mentions the "10 year lifecycle", it doesn't mean that the next system will come out in 2016. Rather, they are saying that the console will hold valuable for 10 years after launch, and that people who buy it in 2006 will still have games to play on them in 2016.

Just look at the PS2. So far, it has had 8 and a half years in the market, and is still selling exceptionally well. THAT's what they mean by a "10 year lifecycle". Of course, by then, we are assuming that the PS3 will be priced around $100, and to be honest anybody who waits that long to get one isn't interested in playing videogames in any serious matter, but that's irrelevant to the 10-year strategy.

Instead, the next console will come out at the latest by 2014, if not in 2012 or 2014.

Super Mario Galaxy outdoes a majority of Xbox 360 games? I'm NO obsessive console fan, but even I know some common sense. My friend, their hardware is completely different. The Wii graphics chip is nowhere near as powerful as the 360's, and certainly not near the PS3's either. I can see that many of your statements are based on opinion. The NES had a No blood/no controversial stance before the PS1 existed, then they flooded the market with Saturday Afternoon Cartoon-lke characters (Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, Toad, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox McCloud, the list goes on) which both gave and inflated the preception that Nintendo had kiddy games.

When Sony first came out, they thad Twisted Medal, Warhawk, Loaded, and other games that never would've been on any Nintendo system. The SNES version of Mortal Kombat didn't even have blood.

Actually the Sega saturn had titles that were of more mature flavor and it was released before the playstation so i think it was just that time for the video game industry as much as people want to tthink Sony created it.
The video game industry actually tried more mature titles on systems such as the Atari Jaguar and again in the same year (1993) the panaconis 3do which the market was just not ready for such games especially since they were so expensive and the playstation being the cheapest console of the time at a launch price of $299.

No the PS3 isnt tracking anywhere near where PS2 was in the same time framr and that has already been proven time and time again. Some of us have no problem seeing or admitting that the PS3 will never reach the same status the PS2 did. Well im hoping for 'Super Wii', (following from snes..coz to me the wii is like the nes...u know testing the waters a bit)

But i will still buy all consoles that come out, its good to get a nice even spread, .....they all have their ups n downs (no matter how many times ppl will argue that their system is the best)
