IGN: Rygar Hands-on

IGN writes: "You'd be forgiven for assuming the Wii port of Rygar was quietly cancelled. It's been a while since Tecmo has talked about it and we'd only seen a 30 second video of it in action at last year's Tokyo Game Show. But Rygar is still here, it's coming this December, and we've played it -- and came away impressed. This is essentially the same game that arrived on the PlayStation 2 back in 2002 (God, has it been that long?) with some light motion controls added and general gameplay tweaks. Tecmo likes to think of this version of Rygar as similar to what it did with Ninja Gaiden Black -- basically, this is meant to be the definitive version of the game.

First, some general info for those that missed this action adventure the first time around. Set in Greco-Roman mythology, the third-person game definitely gives off a God of War vibe (although it arrived three years before Kratos' first adventure). The Rygar franchise began in arcades in 1985 as an action affair, and appeared on the NES a year later with more of an adventure feel. The 3D PS2 game featured a mix of action and adventure, although Tecmo feels it may have leaned towards adventure a little too much. The developers have tried to keep up the pace and inject more combat into the Wii game."
