Kotaku: A Close Look at the Rock Band 2 Drums

Kotaku writes: "Returning from the Penny Arcade Expo earlier this week I was delighted to discover a giant brown box sitting in my house. Inside? The Rock Band 2 instruments: Two guitars and drum set. I haven't had a ton of time to mess around with the new drums yet, but so far I can say they're much quieter, and they feel much better to drum on. Those new pads have just the right amount of spring to them".

1 - Hmm....
The Guitar Hero WT's kit is better for me(drummer)

The cymbals are higher up, pressure sensitive, and 5 total pads.

1.1 - Well
6 pads really (see attached photo, you forgot the base). While I do admit that GH:WT's drum kit does look.... More like a drum kit than Rockband's, I think they went the wrong way about it. One of the cymbals should be lowered to the left (hi-hat) rather than having 2 crash cymbals.

Also, are they really pressure sensitive? Cause that seems a bit pointless, you either hit the drum or you don't in these games.

I'm a drummer too, and I think the Rockband ones are fine, if not better than Guitar Hero's (though I haven't played them, I'm basing this off the positioning of the pads). But whatever, each to their own <3

oh cut the bull... you aren't a drummer or you haven't been drumming for long.

GH drumset is horribly mapped... the cymbals are too small, too close, and DO NOT go high enough not to mistakenly hit them when hitting the lower pads.

as a drummer you should already know that Harmonix was not trying to replicate a drumset 100%, they wanted to give you a basic idea of what drumming is. If you wanted a full drum experience you should get a REAL drumset (even they have said that in a loading screen message)

Anyways, if you are a real drummer why do you care what game has the most realistic drums? you should already know Harmonix maps their charts into 4 pads precisely how its played on a real drumset... maybe you're not smart enough to figure out exactly what pad represents what in a real druset

2 - @Mc Fadge
The drums are "velocity sensitive", so the harder you hit them, the louder they'll be in-game. It'll probably be most noticed when creating songs though.

3 - Just a reminder....
Rock band drums are also "Velocity Sensitive". Dont forget you'll have the option of attaching up to 3 cymbals, and also use 2 foot pedals. Of course those are sold seperately but at least the option is there.
