Could MadWorld kill the Wii?

SymbioteStudios writes: "Now considering the lack of well everything that people give titles as unique and interesting as MadWorld, It was pretty surprising to see a screenshot of the game in a newspaper, less surprising was the 'ultra violent' headline adorning it. It has been in particular the British press who've decided to bash MadWorld, publications like the 'Daily Mail' and the 'Metro' have been talking and it seems Nintendo might have a tough spot in pushing MadWorld out of the spotlight."

It will kill the Wii in the same way Manhunt 2 did a year ago. Not my kind of game, but I am surprised tabloids are not more inventive in wasting the public attention.

2.1 - The Wii is dead?
... then what the hell is that white thing that seems to always be sold out in game stores and electronics sections, not to mention, outselling the PS3 and 360?

only a ps3 or xbox360 fan would say something like that.. cause their hope would fade away for good if we started getting some real support from third partys

3.1 - losing hope yeah right
No if anything nintendo would pull madworld, if it was showing strong signs of harming casual wii owner purchases.

The problem is most casual/non gamer wii owners, wouldn't know a good solid game if it bite them in the ass. Madworld will be ignored almost entirely by the casual community, only core wii owners will pay it any attention.

Which is why third party support for the wii is the lowest out of all the consoles, casual gamers don't really buy hardcore/regular games.

Ps3/360 owners hope would fade away if the wii got real third party support, your words not mine (lol wow i didn't think it was on life support, maybe it really is that bad).

So how exactly ps3/360 owners hope going to fade away, they still have a boatload of kickass third party games. Not quite so good on the wii, i don't see third partys abandoning either console.

The wii has a reputation as a casual's console, as such most ps3/360 owners, i know don't even consider the wii a gamers console. When it comes to hardcore/solid games the wii isn't in the same market/demographic as the ps3/360.

No... But Wii's reputation as a "family friendly" console could kill MadWorld...

And like what the first replier said... Any game with the title "Wii _____" will save the Wii time and time again.

No, MadWorld wont kill the Wii, but more games like MadWorld could get more hardcore PS3/360 owners to buy a Wii as a second or third console.

9 - MadWorld in motion
is certainly a sight to behold. The graphics are terrific and very sharp for the Wii.

I really don't Madworld could kill the wii. I mean firstly, MadWorld is a videogame and is manufactured as an inamnimate object. Secondly, the wii doesn't exactly have a life to take. It's just plastic casing with a bunch of wires and crap inside. Good for playing smash brothers but not for having a SOUL!

In conclusion, asking me whether MadWorld could kill the wii is like asking me whether a sock could exterminate Wall-E (Wall-E doesn't have a soul either)

--------------

But seriously, most of the people who read those English tabloids i.e. the Daily Mail are broke-ass chavs who probably couldn't afford the wii anyway. And I think this game is going to sell weeeeellll.

Chavs don't read the Mail, they read the Sun; the Sun has tits (Neds read the Daily Star for the same reason). The Daily Mail is more popular with the reactionary, xenophobic, socially conservative crowd. This kind of article is parr for the course for a paper like that; the "upstanding moral guardians" of British society pretending they're still relevant.

As for killing the Wii (well, it's popularity and image, maybe), I don't think MadWorld could accomplish that. It'll draw in more people who want to play "core" games and a few people who bought it because of the controversy, but that's it. It won't be banned (the BBFC will more than likely rate it fairly), it won't hurt sales, it won't do anything that is to the detriment of the Wii. And I'm sure Nintendo knows this and won't take any action to stop the game's production.

I think it could sell well but not as good as it probably should. All this attention should have stir up more sales but it didn't do Manhunt 2 that many favors really, I doubt this will be any different.

I'm not sure it will kill the Wii but I think it may cause some parents to question their purchase, especially when it's supposed to be a console for casual gamers. :/

13 - whats the problem
if people dont like games like this on the wii then just dont buy it. It just seems like pure stupidity to be complaining over this. Well im not british but still. Nintendo wanted a game like this on the wii otherwise they wouldnt have licensed it, and wat about no more heroes that wasnt banned in England, why?

14 - Okay, I'm confused...
One minute, Nintendo is ridiculed for their "kid friendly" image, the next, they're bashed for letting something like this be released for the Wii?

Guess what, if Manhunt 2 and No More Heroes didn't doom the console, this won't....

15 - MadWorld is exactly what the Wii needs.
I really hope the controversy is blown out of proportion and massive hype is generated, because this could really help me feel better about buying my Wii.

That sounded bad. But I feel like there's at least 30 or so titles I'm really interested on PS3/360 with only about 10 on my Wii.

I'm glad the games are really starting to come on all systems. PS3 and Wii have me a little more excited than 360, but 360 still has some titles with Star Ocean 4, Banjo, Gears 2, Fable 2, and Tales of Vesperia.

You know, this is why there is such things as RATINGS!!! and PARENTAL CONTROLS!!! Idiots they are there so use them because some people want to play something good on the wii for F!ck sakes. Anal bastards.

To above^^ I know what u mean i look down the release list for the ps3 and i think "Damnit im gonna be broke this year". Later i look down the Wii list and see cooking games, games about horses, obviously bad games, and..... World eating championship. This is the only wii game i am interested in.

17 - No it won't!
This is a really good thing for the Wii! With all the controversy makes this sell, the Wii will see more games like this. Idiots who think the Wii is casual only will notice this gem thanks to all the media it's getting and this may actually make the wii, instead of breaking it.

18 - 3rd party support
Month to month since December 2007 Wii has been out pacing the Xbox 360 on software sales by 3rd parties globally, in the US Wii is slightly ahead of the Xbox 360 in software sales for 3rd parties.

^This viewing month by month, not over a period of time as the 1 year advantage would skew any information by defacto in favor of the Xbox360.

1. Wii
2. Xbox360
3. Ps3

By values the rankings of sales look like this.
1. Next Gen
2. New Gen
