Parents horrified as most violent video game ever to launch on 'family friendly' Wii

via Eurogamer:

"SEGA Wii game MadWorld will "spoil the family fun image" of the console, according to Mediawatch-UK, a British organisation that campaigns for decency in television, games and films.

"I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification," John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-UK, told the Mail Online.

"What the rest of world does is up to them. We need to ensure that modern and civilised values take priority rather than killing and maiming people.

"It seems a shame that the game's manufacturer have decided to exclusively release this game on the Wii," said Beyer. "I believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii.""

The family friendly image of the Wii will never go away. It is to ingrained into what people think when they think of the Wii. It is the same reason that even if they fix the 360 people will think it is faulty, and even if the PS3 had the largest collection of games ever, people would still say that there is nothing to play on it.

I really don't see why MadWorld is exclusive on the Wii because there isn't that many people that own Wii's that are over the age of 17/18 and they can't even buy rated M games by themselves, and the parents of underage kids most likely wont buy the rated M game for them either... so how many people does Sega expect to buy this game? it sure wont be that many people, because most Wii users are under young and depend on their parents on nearly every game purchase.

A game like MadWorld should have been on the PS3/360... I just don't think that rated M games belong on the Wii. I understand that all the Nintendo fanboys want some hardcore Wii games, but if they want hardcore games, they should buy a hardcore system (360/PS3).

actually the age demographic for wii is higher than that of ps3/360.

wii caters to all audience whereas ps3 and 360 appeals mostly to ages 16-24

I own a wii, and so I don't see what you mean by this. Are you implying that people in their teens, or twenties, or people who "can afford" a more expensive console would buy a PS3/360 instead of a wii?

If that is the case, I am afraid you are mistaken. You would be surprised at how many people in that demographic actually choose to buy a wii, for themselves, and not for their kids.

Madworld is on oddball to begin with due to the design/style, and when i think of violent/mature game the wii or a nintendo consoles really doesn't come to mind.

And the ps3 troll is right about 1 thing if you want hardcore games look to a ps3/360, you will get a better selection(just no waggle).

The age statement is about as stupid as saying ps3/360 is mainly for 16-24 yr olds, i know 2 people that own a ps3 or a 360 that are that age the other people are in their late 20's early 30.

Well thats fair enough - but if you actually had a wii or followed its game lineup properly you would know of games such as fatal frame 4, conduit, madworld, dead rising, red steel 2, castlevania, deadly creatures, and onechambara (bikini zombie slayers!), are on the horizon. Im happy with the wii, I have more games for it than the ps3 but im not dissing the ps3 - its a very good console. But if you just want to hate on the wii then no problem for me. Its you who are missing out. Have fun being a fanboy.

I read your post but generalizing on that issue is still stupid, it probably was uncalled for, but too late.

Mint did i ever say you attacked the ps3 or 360 in my post nitwit, no i didn't look harder next time, before you accuse me of such a statement.

If you had actually looked i was basically saying you cant say that the owners of console a are age x-y and expect that to be an absolute and i was disagreeing with the person you called a ps3 troll.

Actually i have looked some at it's lineup it changes jack#$%&, nintendo and family friend will always come to mind, just like microsoft and halo, sony and gt or god of war or blu ray.

These games are the exception to the rule, the wii is not considered a hardcore console except by wii owners, if anything non wii owners view the wii as the anti hardcore console or at the very least i do.

Okay seriously a castlevaina fighting game wtf, i blame this solely on the influx of casual gamers from the wii, and konami giving the dev a grossly inadequate budget.

Castlevania's are about killing demons/monster and kicking bosses/dracula's ass not a lame fighting game. They don't want to make a next gen castlevania yet, fine then make it for the ps2 and wii.

Anyway basically is was saying i only see you call people for bs when it is a ps3 gamer or 360 gamer and not a wii gamer, i was calling you biased on which fanboys you attack.

About missing out on what 4-5 games if that the wii has, that are even the slightest bit appealing to me. Lets put it this way if it was between a 199 arcade/core or a 199 wii, at least the 360 has more than 5 games that appeals to me.

Maybe if the wii would function like it was a next/current gen and not a last gen i wouldn't laugh at it so hard. About hating on the wii, i hate that 2 real gaming consoles have to taken down a lvl or 2 when they are being compared to the wii.

Even if one is the 360 at least that console is respectable to me as a competitor, not a console that can't decide which generation it belongs in.

If i am going to be marked down because people disagree with me, at least have the balls to say why. And not be an candy ass anonymous poster that marks people down. 2 people have had the courage to say why they disagree with me.

I can't stand people who want to censor entertainment, especially when it has to be purchased and physically brought into the home. The ESRB makes it very easy on the parents. Some responsibility has to fall back on the parents.

I'm all for protecting kids, I'm a parent myself, but I know that I will decide what my child can and can't play in the future.

Message to people who disagree with this game: don't buy it, pretend it doesn't even exist. But DON'T try to censor it from adults who may want to play it.

Whatever they look at is wrong. They think they can point anything out and stop it. Great Britain is not a FREE country, you might think it is. When you live there for a few years you get tired of it.
Everything is prohibited. Alcohol from the age of 21 ^_^, night clubs from the age of 21 ^^. They live in a 18th century..

You will also see that after this video game is released , and after little kids speak of this game, Wii sales are going to go down, - because of concerned parents ;)

Alcohol and nightclubs -- 18! Fake id's are everywhere here aswell- I got mine at 16 so thats when the purchase of alcohol started for me haha! Theres a huge problem with knives of guns aswell -- 30 teenagers have been shot dead in London this year in targeted gangland attacks and other major cities such as manchester are not muc better either. But Britain is a more free country than america if anything - where alcohol actually is 21 in some places (correct me if im wrong!).

yeah 21 is the drinking age for all of the US...the single dumbest law in the country imo...you are deemed 'old enough' to take on the responsibility of being shot at in a war before you can legally have a damn beer...It was always a blast to have a few friends return from Iraq for a few months of leave, yet not be old enough to go to a local pool hall...that was great...
