Agreed.

I'll buy it especially if it doesn't sell well. Then when everyone realises it's great, it will be collectible.

La chance I think its because Valkyria isn't really a jrpg its a Srpg. Basically a Japanese rts kinda. Not my cup of tea and apparently the Japanese don't like it either. Then again you would think with the ps3 being so rpg starved they would buy anything they could get their hands on.

Just to put things in perspective, Valkyria so far sold about 0.14M in Japan out of about 2M PS3 in that region, that's about 1 in 15. Lost Odyssey worldwide sold about 0.77M out of about 20M X360, that's about 1 in 26. So for those saying Valkyria is a flop, than you have to say Lost Odyssey is a flop too.

I rather say that it sold well for a new IP.

It might have something to do with the characters as well. I'm still looking forward to it but with it being tanks, platoons, rifle men, and what not vs the knight, mage, archer, and such it's just not the same in terms of characters.

Art style alone is what's making me want this game

I believe you got all the disagrees because you're a blatant 360 funboy, and took the opportunity to kick PS3 owneres when they're down.

Iron Man outselling Chronicles... I don't trust this tory...

I'm getting Valkyrie.

For those criticizing it for its sales, step back for a moment. For every criticism of Valkyrie for sales, you are also praising Ironman the game, since it sold well. Not sure as a gamer you want to do that

I can't believe so many bought that crapfest Iron Man.
Sucks for Valkyria Chronicles, but I'm a little more optimistic about it's sales in the US and Europe. Call it a hunch, I might be wrong with that.

Wow, thats a surprise. I agree that it'll do better in Europe as we have a reputation for liking us some SRPG games, not too sure about America.

Ugh I hate when something innovative doesn't sell well, because thats when we get the same game over and over again and then ask why.

4.1 - I'll tell you how.
Just like all eastern nations. Korea, Japan, etc.. Its called "Group Mentality". Very very VERY Group minded. Where as Euros and america's are more independent thinkers. This is my opinion from what i've witness at my job for the past several years.

Well it looks fun and unique. I'm gonna try it out. If it had trophies it woulda been that much better, seeing as how I'm already overwhelmed with games its becoming wasteful now. Its acutally bothering me. And the list continues to grow. MS2, R2, LBP, WKS, KZ2, SOCOM, etc.. i could keep going on. ugh i wish i was a kid.

5 - Wow if Valkyria Bombs in Japan
I doubt it well do that well here in the states....

Remember people regardless of how great some Jrpgs are.

Final Fantasy is what sells very well worldwide. I've been enjoying some good Jrpgs on the 360 though.

5.1 - Good stories sell.
People tend to forget the entertainment value of a game is more then it's eye candy and the type of game it is.

Most of the time a good game is popular more because it's entertaining to play and watch.

You can put out an action, adventure, RPG, FPS or a platformer.

As long as it's fun and had a good story behind it a lot of people who are into that will by it for that entertainment value.

Some games don't need stories like tetris or puzzle games. Big immersive stories draw me in the most though.

To bad these are a dying breed and headed more towards action adventure RPGS or FPS's.

5.2 - I hear that I'm a JRPG fan Good Story to draw me in and Good Music is the only Hook I need to finish.
...some just care about graphics. I don't care how good the game looks, if them 2 ingredients are not on par then I'll get bored and drag myself to finish it.

I have yet to finish FF12, that story got boring. Not the best FF.

It is called choice. Maybe people in Japan don't find the game as appealing...

It is much the same as to why the Camry is one of the best selling vehicles in North America, even when nobody would be crazy enough to call that couch on wheels exiting or even interesting.

Choice, that is that it is...

7 - Kind of misleading
Kind of misleading to compare Japanese-only sales of a new IP game on one platform with the sales for a multiplatform game over all Europe and US and based off a well known established IP accompanied on the heel of a blockbuster movie. Really, it's like comparing apples and oranges.

What about you compare the sales of Valkyria in Japan with the sales of a similar new IP game for a similar platform in a similar market. Oh wait, that would actually be fair.

10 - When
final fantasy 13 and final fantasy agito are released in Japan the PS3 will widen the gap between the xbox360.

It's just that the biggest JRPGs are heading to the PS3 while the the xbox360 has more JRPgs but with less quality.

Final Fantasy XIII Agito is a PSP game. I don't see how that would help PS3 sales in Japan.

@Alexander Roy - Any money that the PSP brings in to Sony's gaming division is a help to the PS3. More revenue for SCEI means that they can invest in lower the production costs of the PS3 even further, use a portion of that revenue to purchase exclusivity contrats (or in some cases persuade 3rd parties to go multi-plat) or just post an overall profit for the gaming division.

Despite the PS3's lagging sales early on in its life cycle the other portions of the gaming division have helped keep it afloat and now that the PS3 is doing much better than it had been the other assets only serve to embolden the gaming division and expand and improve.

It's really the biggest thing that Sony has over Microsoft in the gaming industry: Sony can regain it's lost profits much faster than Microsoft can because they rely on multiple assets whereas Microsoft cut off support of the original Xbox and solely rely on a single product to try and compete. It's also why MS has dumped so much money in to the 3rd parties when it comes to gaming. Sure, Microsoft Game Studios reported a profit for for the first time since it began 7 years ago, but the rest of the Redmond company has been bleeding money due to the lackluster reception of Vista and the fact that pretty much everyone hates it and thinks Direct X10 is a big stinking pile.

But I'm going off on a tangent here.....

To respond to the first statement: Yes, the PSP helps the PS3 by bringing in revenue which can be used for the betterment of the PS3 overall.

EDIT: If someone is going to disagree with me at least have the stones to write it up instead of just hitting the "disagree" button.

I guess that the Japanese heard that Valkyria Chronicles has FPS elements in it and got scared of it. Personally, I am totally diggin' the premise behind VC and I've already got it pre-ordered from Gamestop.

Also, SRPG's do sell pretty well in Japan. If I remember correctly Disgaea 3 sold pretty well and it has had enough success that NIS has already begun working on another PS3 project.

Not to mention that Tears to Tiara (another PS3 JRPG) sold VERY well on its debut. That's another game I hope makes it to the states but considering some of the screens I've seen I don't think a publisher will pick it up for distribution outside of Japan. A shame because the battle system for Tears to Tiara looks amazing.

JRPG's sell on the PS3 and they have, aside from VC, done better than the JRPG's released on the 360. I seriously just think that the Japanese saw this game as a RPG/shooter and wrote it off.

I'm surprised Valkyria didn't do better, maybe this will teach developers a lesson.

Bring your cool new RPGS to the States first, then let Japan dishonor their greatness... ;)

Like that would ever happen...

I agree with most statements on here, a little surprised by the low numbers. Though not terrible, I expected more, especially after seeing/reading about the game, looks fairly interesting.

Release dates anyone.

Thats to bad for Valkyria Chronicles but I think that it will sell better in NA/Europe, I think the 3rd person shooting aspects and the fact its not your traditional SRPG probably didn't catch their attention.

The game has Vyse and Aika from Skies of Arcadia in out so you bet I'm getting this one.

Valkyria Chronicles is a niche game. It's a tactical/strategy RPG set in a war setting. There are also some FPS elements in there. It's not the most popular type of game, well for Japan I suppose.

Sega doesn't say that Valkyria bombed in Japan.

The company says that Valkyria sells "steadily" in Japan.

Meh, I assumed as much. Japan is oversaturated with JRPGs, to the point where pretty much if you don't have Final or Quest in your title, the game won't sell. Which is MS's strategy to win over Japan with JRPGs is futile. They should release a dating simulator and then they'll win over fans.
