Nintento Out Of Ideas For The Wii

Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has said in an interview published in the Wall Street Journal that they have exhausted all of their original ideas for the Wi and are unsure of the extent of their ongoing development for the console.

It seems that the plans for the Wii world domination had been drawn up from the very beginning, with Miyamoto plotting out the current slew of accessories. "Most of the ideas for accessories that we had initially come up with are out now. We might think up some more, and we might make them if we do, but we don't have any plans to release a whole lot more," said Iwata.

wow, how bad are you at actually reading what they say and just go on by the header, it say the have already released all of their ORIGINAL ideas, that means they released all that they 1st tought. That hardly means that they wont come up with anything new.

I doubt sony and microsoft have planed their ideas for the next 7 years or so...

learn how to read people....

It sounds to me like they just want to push out more peripherals now that they've put out all of the ones they had.

I think they should focus on something else, but sadly, it's not up to me, the consumer to decide that.

Would have sold mine long ago, if I would have finished No More Heroes yet. Besides, there is that other game from SEGA (MadWorld?) that I think looks interesting. There were only 3 games I fully enjoyed yet on the Wii: Twilight Princess, Super Paper Mario and No More Heroes. The rest, well, didn't really float my boat.

That is one bad thing about going for the casuals. Casuals just want cheap and fun, they aren't brand loyal.
Whatever bad things you say about Fanboys, they are at least loyal.

I was a massive Nintendo fanboy, and even though I've been let down by the Wii, I still follow Wii articles in the hope that Nintendo brings out a new decent machine in the future or a new Zelda or Mario.

Ok Mad Jedi, I'll give it a shot.

His comments (FROM THE ACTUAL WSJ ARTICLE) are in regards to accessories only. He is not saying that they are out of ideas for the Wii all together.

I have no problem with them ending their run of accessories. I love the Wii, but at this point if you can't come up with some good games with the wiimote, nunchuk, classic controller, gamecube controller, Dance Mats, WiiFit board, 1:1 tracking, fake drums and guitars and a steering wheel then maybe it is time to hang it up.

I mean jeez, at least give us like super mario rock band. you can use the drums and guitar for the band, you could have back up dancers on the dance mats, the roadies could unload and set up the stuff with the fitboard and 1:1 and you can even drive the tour bus with the steering wheel!

"Wii Music completes what Miyamoto wrote in his proposal when he came up with the idea for the Wii. He was saying that he needs to think up more ideas now."

That in no way states that he or Nintendo are running out of ideas.
It just means he has more ideas now.

"Most of the ideas for accessories that we had initially come up with are out now. We might think up some more, and we might make them if we do, but we don't have any plans to release a whole lot more."

And so what? Bar a hard-drive, the wii hardly needs anymore accessories.

and now the fight for all those used and abused nintendo fans begins. sony and Microsoft will be vying for all those ex wii owners to boost their console sales. and with the rumored $200 360 coming, Microsoft should be in good a position to pick up alot of them. hate to say i told you so...but did anyone really believe the wii had staying power?

Balance Board, Zapper, and soon, Motion Plus. You can't deny it. It'd be like saying that people aren't forced to buy memory cards for their consoles, or rumble packs or expansion packs to fully appreciate the game. The zapper is completely unnecessary.

LOL Nintendo forced you to buy those things? How? None of them are required to play any game except for the board for Wii fit but again they did NOT force you to buy it. When you take a brand new Wii home everything you will ever need is already in the box. You are not forced to purchase any other items to use your Wii. What game were you forced to buy the Zapper to play? Even the Wii wheel is free and its still not required. I'm sure your a PS3 owner that had no problem dropping 60.00 for nothing but Rumble but let Nintendo sale some add ons that arent required and you throw a fit.

Was forced to buy the Zapper in order to play Link's Crossbow Training (which was, sadly, a better game than Twilight Princess :\).

Also, don't ASSume that I own a PS3, cause I don't. And the Balance board IS required to play certain games.

Since you don't get the zapper for free when you get the game, or the game for free when you get the zapper... (This comment is meant to be sarcastic)

Crossbow training a better game than Twilight Princess? Interesting... but to each his own.

10 - The end is near!
After motion+ they won't need any more addons. The Wii will be complete then. I think the only other thing is maybe a new way to put games on the system other than Wiiware, VC and optical disk. Some thing that fixes a problem and also bring a new type of game. We all want it even though we don't all cry for it.

Hey but I guess it's going to be all about the games now. It's the only system that has ports that are actually more fun due to the control. The motion+ is going to add to that pretty easily. Good luck on selling your Wii guys you should be able to get $400+ off of it with VC games. If you are a person selling to some one older and they know it you will get low balled. You can always buy another one once the games come out if you really are that choosy.

You can get xbox 360 for less than $200 right now used. Price and game types are what is hurting those two machines. Price is easy to fix but games are not.

desparately hoping the wii will die. Your still flumoxed about how the wii is kicking every other console's ass? Haha some fanboys believe the end will will come soon and when it doesn't they get even more confused and desperate. The wii has won this generation. End of. An amazing feat for nintendo to go from the 3rd to first in sales and become by far the most profitable.

Did anyone read the article either? Nintendo have used up their original ideas for teh wii.. well can they not you know.. think of some more?... just like sony and ms will have to do....

14 - haha its funny
dont people see that the wii was just part one of nintendos plan to take over. already its dominating the console wars yet it doesnt have the graphical power of a 360 or ps3 and supposedly isnt HARDCORE. well what ever u say that doesnt change the fact that the wii's ontop. and when wii motion plus comes along its gonna be even bigger.Nintendo's dominated with a supposedly last gen system just wait till they come out with Wii 2 in like 2010 with up to date graphics everything. sony and MS should be very afraid.

The Nintendo Wii's games are so simple in graphics ,sond and etc whe mcompared to games on the Ps3 or even on the xbox360 but they still require 3-5 year to make a good game ?!??? wow

Come on Nintendo you should be able to launch a new Mario, Zelda and Metroid game once a year !!!

15.1 - Wow
Sorry to say this buddy, but clearly ignorance is bliss isn't it?

Let me enlighten you. Polygon count (this is what we are talking about here when we mention graphics) has nothing to do with the quality of a game.

Nintendo games such as Mario or Zelda tend to have so much "extra" stuff in them and that is what separates these games from the sea of games out there. Subtleties, such as hidden interaction with characters, and the like are what separate Nintendo games from others. Graphics as you can imagine have nothing to do with this.

For instance, take Mario in Mario64, what do you think happens when you don't do anything for a long period of time?

Nintendo is regarded as one of the best developers in the market, and it shows in the quality of all their games. Since you clearly know nothing about the software development cycle and how long it actually takes to make something worth while, then it is natural that you would assume that it is all about the graphics.

18 - I have a couple ideas...
how about...

~Games that allow us to use a 2nd controller in the left hand instead of the nunchuck.

~An action/platformer that uses the Classic controller, then at some parts, we can pick up the Wiimote sitting next to us to bring up a FPS style view. Gamecube/Wiimote combo would also work.
(not completely original, sega was going to do this for gunvalkyrie on the dreamcast using a controller and a lightgun)

<<<starting to regret buying his Wii. any1 else feel the same?"

However you did say this. Now, did u sell your ps2 and xbox when they had there miles of crap on it. Coz from memeory the ps2 had games like "petz" and "dogz" and "catz" and "bratz" and anything else ending in a Z. Plus there other stuff like buzz and sing star bla bla bla. Basically what im saying is the most popular system (the wii this gen, ps2 last gen) will always get the most crap.

U see mr monkey (i think ur smoking the wacky tobaccy) i think u forget that the superior (hardware) gamcube had much much much less ....crap and much much more quailty. Because it was not popular. And the inferior (hardware) ps2 had soooo much crap that EB games had bins full of "bargain" games in them. It was like a pyramid full of vollyball and pool and "horsez" and britany and hannah montana. But people seem to forget this usually. Yep the wii certainly started the trend.

See the crap tends to follow the popular system, and believe me, IF the ps3 was more popular.....it would have the crap follow it as well.

Well as far as i can rememebr they have always made excesive accessories...since the nes really. And yet they always seem to have made awesome games. like 1 percent of the games NEEDs the acessories (like guitar hero and wii music..hmm both music games how weird).

And they are making "warioland shake it" that looks old school (and looks pretty cool). Plus mega man 9 will be on wii ware for the old old school (multiplat game as well).
