Nintendo is "Looking Hard" at a Storage Solution For Wii

Endsights writes:

Reggie Fils-Aime: "We have said publicly that we're looking hard at the storage situation, that we're working on a range of solutions. We have nothing to announce now. But certainly it's an issue we are aware of and we're working to find a solution and we will."

The lack of a storage solution announcement was just one of many disappointing aspects of Nintendo's 2008 E3, but from what Fils-Aime said, appears to be getting a solution shortly.

1.2 - their biggest problem
is that a hard drive will raise the price of the wii. Or their margin of profit will drop hard with the inclusion of a HHD.

nintendo always drags there feet about stuff. look how long it took them to get voice chat in the system, and it's gimped.

3 - ..I know
that drummer guy was hilarious wasn't he?...From my understanding the mic is perfectly capable of picking up your voice without sticking your head up to it.That's actually what I like about it ...no more wearing a headset :)

That picture of Reggie creeps me out....

Anyways, the majority of Wii gamers are just casual gamers and don't really even need a hard drive, but I think that a 8GB-16GB hard drive for the Wii will probably be sufficient enough because the game files on the Wii shouldn't be that big at all and it's not like games have mandatory installs.

Why not add USB MASS support to their console? It shouldn't be that hard. According to my understanding, the homebrew scene is getting closer to achieving USB hard drive accessibility. I bet Nintendo are really looking hard to brand their own proprietary hard drive to drive some income. It'll probably only work on the Wii and nothing else. Probably called WiiStorage too. lol

This storage issue ..is definitely a big concern of mine...and aside from reggie...no one at nintendo gives us any promising news about a solution.

From what i gather wiispeak connects through usb.you wouldnt need to put in on top of the sensor bar if you didnt want to.Wiispeak will be just as clear as a headset from what nintendo is claiming, and im with Nintendojunkie about not having to wear a headset.

and for me the storage isnt a problem now(i have 17 vc games) but i know down the road it will be and i dont think im the only one with that many downloaded games.

I would if casual gamers download off vc or if its a hardcore thing???

10 - Flash is the way to go
Flash memory is so cheap at this day and age that it's really weird Nintendo put it only 512 MB to the Wii. I can get a 8 Gig flash memory stick for 12 euros, and that's the retail price! In mass production a 10 Gig flash would have cost Nintendo probably under 10 euros a piece, keeping Wii clearly profitable from the get go.

Flash is the way of the future, so I hope Nintendo releases a Wii with more flash memory at some point.

10.1 - starts a good idea finishes oddly
If flash memory is the answer why bother updating the wii to have a large flash memorty storage. Have nintendo stop circle jerking each other, the wii update the firmware to allow you to store content on a usb flash drive, or easier still read capacities above what is it 2 gigs?

Just looking at newegg i see several 4 gig usb flash drives for 20-30 dollars after shipping.

If nintendo doesn't do anything like this, it means either a nintendo really doesn't care about it's loyal fans that have keep it alive for yrs.

Or b at some point in the near future say 4-6 months they will release a propriority wii hard drive that they can milk wii owners with even more.

not so cheap of a console after all :P
