Nintendo: Hardcore gamers 'critically important to us'

"Absolutely the hard-core gamer crowd is critically important to us." Which would explain why so much of Nintendo's E3 press conference was taken up by spirited flailing, smiling soccer moms and the worst rendition of the Super Mario Bros. theme the world has ever been forced to endure.

Nintendo's E3 conference was like a big pile of fail, but they don't care about Hardcore anymore, Nintendo has got it's sales from the casual crowd. The ones that won't buy another game for the system, but they still bought the system and that's all Nintendo cares about.

2 - yeah right
if hardcore gamers are so important, then why did your e3 not have anything appealing to that demographic?

2.2 - they didn't use it for anything else
I consider myself somwhere between a casual and hardcore gamer, but there are 2 casaul gamers in my household and nintendo's e3 didn't even excite them.

nintendo failed e3. not that it will affect their sales one bit as their gravy train just keeps on rolling...

they used it for Casual nonsense
Not for "core" stuff.
Thats my point.

"something else" > Casual stuff.

You guys expected loads of " core " information, but they used this E3 for Something else: Casual information.

You guys sure like to take stuff twist, bend and take it out of context.

Seriously get over it, what you going to do about it?
It sucked so freaking what its not the end of the world =/.

3 - Yep.
It's not that Wii forgot about hardcore gamers - Wii just want them to start playing casual games.

Bullshit : If they were so important they will have sold a real wiimote and a real hardware (at least as powerfull as a taito type X 2).

Actions speak louder than words Nintendo. You can't continue to totally ignore core gamers while telling us how much you care about us, how important we are.

Did anybody else see Gamehead where Geoff Keighley asked Reggie what they had for the core gamers and his answer was "Animal Crossing"? Give me a break Reggie, seriously.

the irony of all this is I know a non-gamer who isn't too excited about the Wii, but goes nuts over the technology that the Playstation3 offers.

how ironic

If the hardcore gamer was important to Nintendo, they would have developed a console with HD graphics and a whole line of deep games. Why would they care? They are making some wicked coin catering to the casual audience.

10.1 - based on if nintendo even cares about it's loyal fanbase anymore
Even as a graphics whore i have to disagree on one thing, nintendo would not need to have hd graphics to cater to their hardcore gamers(they already know it isn't a high end console).

They do however need good solid games, action/adventure, rpgs, mature(something more complicated than a 5 yr old can handle), yes third parties are slow making these, but the question is will they sell enough for sequels/new ips.

Having said the wii doesn't do hd graphics, would it really kill nintendo to try and actually push its hardware's capabilities some on it's games.

edit nintendo is improving their online supposedly, maybe in a year you will see some of what i wrote below actually addresssed lol

Also nintendo needs to stop screwing around with online and get serious, copy psn or live whichever and give the user the option of being identified by a name for all games.

Instead of a borg designation, while your at it drop the stupid wii speak and/or sell a headset for people that want to talk to one person. Not have to listen to every sound in the room/house and the one person they are trying to carry on an actual conversation with.

If nintendo is serious about vc and wii being a option for it's user base, release an hd or a firmware update so that people can use a external usb had drive.

If nintendo did these things, the wii might actually get some respect from hardcore gamers, with the exception of the nintendo defenders. Who view it as inferior or substandard to the ps3 or 360 and i am not even talking about graphics or multimedia here.

11 - wait...
there are hardcore nintendo fans?

lol j/k

nintendo isnt looking at that demographic right now, they have to keep throwing wood on the casual gamers fire pile, its very smart of them, but also very risky..I think third party companies should take full advantage of this opportunity

Thats what Third party developers ARE Doing.
As result people like you say Wii has no "core" games.

And why do you people pretend Nintendo is the only one with games?
Seriously third partys are suddenly dead or something?

12 - true E3 sucked, but..
You know the games are coming dudes, chill. get off Nintendo's back. remember the E3 2005, the Cube was dead except for the Twilight demo, but that year was one of the cubes strongest releasing such greats as Battalion wars, Baten Kaitos Origins, and Odama.

Proof that a bad E3 doesn't mean a bad year. Heck, if you just google or youtube Wii 2008 E3 you'll see all kinds of games like :

Romance of the 3 kingdoms
SPray
Deadly Creatures
Rune Factory Wii
Fatal Frame Mask of the lunar Eclipse
Dead Rising wii
Onechanbara
Castlevania judgement
Sonic Unleashed
FFCC: Crystal bearers
Wario land shake it
Monster hunter wii
Disaster day of crisis

and even Kingdom hearts for DS

12.1 - ms and sony's presentation wasn't that bad, just not anything magical, nintendo's was damning
Great first party effort there( yeah i know), well hopefully for you guys nintendo will wake up, and atleast solve the storage solution. Although it looks like wii ware is a low priority for nintendo, amongst other things.

13 - the fact that they even have to say it
shows that there is neglect to the "hardcore" crowd.
