Ion reveals $299.99 price for premium Rock Band drums

Thought $180 for the original Rock Band package was expensive? You ain't seen nothing yet. The official Web site for Ion's professional Drum Rocker (as recently revealed in Game Informer) lists a $299.99 price for the deluxe drum controller. Only the Xbox 360 version of the set is currently available for pre-order, though Wii and PS3 editions are "expected to ship later in the year," according to the site. It's important to note that this is not the official drum set that will be packaged with Rock Band 2, but rather an officially licensed deluxe set that works with both Rock Band games.

1.1 - Yeah, but
Can you drum on your 360? If you're into Rock Band, and specifically into drumming in Rock Band, this is a very tempting offer. It is a bit pricey, but when you figure you can buy a brain and have an electric drum set, it's definitely intriguing.

1.2 - WTF???
u might as well buy the REAL drum controller with all the real drum kits in it!!!

1.3 - That's the point
Yeah, that's kinda the point. You're not only buying the most realistic game controller, but you have the option to turn it into an actual electric kit. I don't understand why so many people are having such an issue figuring this stuff out.

this kit is no where near a real electric drum kit... i mean where is the high hat? i seriously think 300dollars is too much!
the only difference between this and todays kit is the placement of the cymbals
idk i think 300 i too much for basically a controller.

1.5 - It's right there
The high hat is there, or wherever you want it, it's an adjustable system, just like any other electric kit. And I wish people would stop saying it's just a game controller, with an electric drum brain, it can become an electric kit without the game. Here, check out the vid:

And if you want more information on it, check this link:

Still not convinced? Here's a kid playing on an early build of it:

Uh so they're just regular Ion drums that work with Rock Band then eh? Because that's the same price as the vanilla Ion set IIRC.

Guitar hero is much better anyway.

4.1 - Really?
This is why you hate Rock Band? That makes perfect sense. You have 4 options for drum controllers, and one of them can be turned into an actual electric drum set, and that doesn't make sense? Whatever, once you play Rock Band, you'll understand.

I really don't know why everyone is giving you such a hard time. The kit sounds reasonable to me seeing as how it doubles as a real drum kit.

It's Laughable that they charge you $180 for Basically a music soundtrack, and some Game-specific controllers.

doesn't that look a little like a gh:wt drum set? if they could make it work in every upcoming game (including gh:wt, gh:metallica, rb3 and gh5) it could easily sell, nobody wants 3 plastic drum sets lying around in the room and it looks much better than the ones in rb1 and gh:wt...

another point... this is the premium drum set but STILL... it includes only one kick pedal...

7.1 - I know...
I agree...there should be only one plastic drum set

Too bad Activision/Neversoft had to go and change the layout of drumming in game (making orange a pad instead of the pedal) to make everyone who enjoys drums in RB buy a new set.

Maybe with this set because of the extra symbol pads there will be a way to use them with GH: WT; because that will be the only way I get that game...

Agreed for that money there should be a second pedal: but you can add a second pedal with a pair of headphone jack splitters and another pedal that can be bought on ebay....

8.1 - lololololololol
Do you realize what you would get with that set? First off, a piece of junk set. Secondly, no cymbals - that's right, cymbals are extra, and expensive.

And the point that I feel like I've said too many times (but I'll say it again, since it's the last time I can post in this comment section) is that it's a game controller that can be used out of the game if you want it to. It's a good thing, and it gives people another option. Rock Band FTW!

15 - A Few Things
Why are so many people complaining...

To clear up a few things....

1. This set CAN be used as an electric kit. Electric kits are obviously expensive (anywhere between 300 and 600)

2. You don't have to buy it; it is made third party and is for those who want to what they have learned from the game (drum trainer mode in RB2 and playing through expert on the first game :))and take it one step further than just a game controller....

3. Good "real" drum sets can cost thousands of dollars....unless you buy a pulse piece of garbage...

All and all for what you get it is a pretty awesome deal and I will probably pre-order in the next couple of weeks....

Except ions are really crappy, uber-entry level edrum kits. People are looking at this like 'freakin sweet, an edrum kit,' except ions usually crap out just as quickly as the RB1 drums.

Plus drum brains can be $100-300 and an amplifier is $100-300, making this as expensive as a nice edrum kit or a regular set of acoustic drums.

On the whole you're really just getting a crazy expensive game-specific controller or a really crappy edrum set. Definitely a lose-lose situation.

15.3 - longer gameplay footage than the official commercial...
My RB pedal was the only thing that I have had problems with and it lasted 5 months before snapping (and that was after playing every day almost)

...anyways...I found this vid on youtube this morning...

they look pretty awesome...enjoy...

lol, I posted that YouTube vid in these comments about 10 hours ago, it's funny that you found it and posted it as well.

Now, to jm, the point in these is that they are convertible. If you want to play a game, cool you can do that with these. If you want to play the drums but not the game, cool, you can do that with these as well. The point is that you're not stuck with only a game controller. It might be lower end stuff than what a professional would pick up, but for someone who is interested in seeing if they could maybe actually hack it without the game, it's not such a bad idea.

The other thing is, you don't have to buy it if you don't want to. HMX is allowing other options to be available, and that is cool. I have four choices for drums when this game comes out, and that makes me more excited for the game.

The Ion kit come with two cymbals with an option to add a third. It comes with one kick petal and an option to add a second. You can also buy a "drum brain" to add onto your kit. This Ion kit for $300 is really a good deal for those looking to get a drum kit without spending thousands of dollors for a pro drum kit. I will likely pick this up.
