Wii Fit: 64% of Japanese gamers already giving up

Rather than a game, Wii Fit is more comparable to an exercise program. More specifically, it's something that most people would consider playing in short bursts each day. A recent poll, however, shows that close to two-thirds of Japanese gamers are already giving up on the product. ITMedia in Japan took poll data from 1000 gamers and a staggering 64% of the participants said they stopped using Wii Fit after purchase.

See the link for the full poll results.

1.1 - THIS JUST IN....
People stop using home exercise equipment, gym memberships and anything else that they believe to be a quick route to heath.. Put the WiiFit in the storage closet next to the ThighMaster, the Soloflex, the AbMaster and the George Foreman Grill! :-)

One fad of many more to come.
No, I don't hate the Wii, I have one myself. It just makes me mad that they have a genius like Miyamoto working on a "Wii Something" title instead of making a new Mario or Zelda.

Losing weight and staying in shape is about desire and will. No equipment or toy is going to automatically give you that.

They are realising that it's an overprice piece of junk and has less value than a real scale. They are also realising that going out, running and other stuff is more fun than doing push ups in front of a tv.

No MK thats not it. Its just that they aren't motivated to continue.
Thats all.

Same could have happened in a real gym.
I've been there many times but after 20 minutes of running i went home because i lost motivation.

5.4 - umm, well sorry to intrude but
the reason behind these people stopping will obviously be varied but the majority is people who bought the game solely on hype, they bought it because someone they knew bought it, told them about it, saw it on tv, they probably didn't intend to play it forever, I hate wii fit, the game in itself is not so bad, but the aura surrounding this whored product disgusts me and lowered my respect for Nintendo who, as of late, have not been putting up a good enough front for me a "hardcore" gamer and I always find myself picking the PC/PS3/X360 over the Wii.
edit: oh and also this is Japan, who if by my recollection is up there on the list of "non-obese" nations, and sidar you also act like everyone who bought Wii Fit wanted to lose weight, also there is a study for everything, there is probably a study out there that shows that 64% of people still play Wii Fit and love it.

Any person who ever got a product from those TV shows where they try selling you stuff : CALL NOW AND GET * for free!!!

All those products are also used only for a short period of times when it comes to "fitness".
But i guess there is still a part that uses it.

it's not really the fact it's a fad, it's the fact that this really isn't a game. There's no "quest/mission" mode that gives you a clear path to goals. From everything I've read and seen, WiiFit had potential and Nintendo just didn't go all the way with it. What a shame.

11.1 - Wii Fit 2 maybe?
imagine this, you are a fat guy who is trying to fit in an airplane seat and you have to lose 100 pounds to do so, or maybe, instead of it being a straight fitness game, they could have a game that gets you healthier disguised as a platformer/adverturer, that would be cool.

Nintendo let me give you a lesson of "Humanoligy 101" when you create a product like Wii fit (Nice concept on paper but not in reality) you have to ask yourself. Do people really want to get fit ? ____________ (the blank line are for people who want to answer for some reason). The true answer is no. No they don't want to get fit if they did they would have joined a Jim and got a real work out. They bought the Wii to have fun.(This is my opinion)

I bet the 64% who quit probably figured DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) to be much better in the long run since it actually drives you to beat Legend of Max and Paranoia 290 on Oni Mode. Seriously how fun can it be to do yoga in front of the tv with a virtual avatar instead of actually dancing to some good music?

16 - What the hell has this got to do with anything
Nintendo doesn't give a toss, they've made their money on this puppy and will keep getting residual income via it's sales for a while yet.

I mean come on, we all knew this was Nintendo tappin into the massive weight loss expliotation market that others like Thigh masters etc are into (or atleast the ones with some resembluence of a brain did). You don't even have to try to hard to make money off of some invention to help people loss weight or develop a six pack.

Nintendo don't give a rat's butt about the Core Nintendo gamer or core gamers in general. They've found their new core base in the "casual" market and that's what they're going to ride on.

Expect more stuff like Wii fit in the future. Something like muscle tonner or something for the vanity inclined in a "look 10years younger" game mould.
