Goldeneye is only one game...not much of a francshise and the james bond franchise of fps games is lackluster except for Goldeneye......

Goldeneye is my favorite game but halo is a 3 game franchise with over 20 million sold....they dont exactly balance out

@aebriscoejr down below - Orange Box isnt a franchise and Gears isnt a FPS....but nice list

I love samus, but for some reason I get gamer's fatigue whenever I try to get into a 3D metroid game.

As long as Half-Life and Doom are on top I'm happy. I'd add Quake 3 or original UT as the game along with Half-Life and Doom but that's just me.

someone mustve forgot to mention to all the ppl who herald the Half Life series as the best shooter of all time that Valve sucks ass, cant program, are lazy, and gabe's fat.

4 - Well they pretty much nailed the good ones
I wonder if Gears of War will make it on there on day....

Some of these Old Game Covers brings back so much memories...Half Life, Doom, Wolfenstien, Duke, Serious Sam, Unreal Tourny these are all games I used to spend hours on when I used to be hard-Core PC gamer.

These games weren't resource/GPU hogs as they are today.

Quake 3 arena and Red faction didn't make the list..

1995 - 1999 were some of PC's best game franchises. Great games those years.

Bad thing about this list is that most of them dont have a part 2 out yet for their so called franchises...... which in the end they should be called franchises.....they might as well do top 25 fps games

lmao no matter what you say...Halo has done more for console FPS games then probably any other game except Goldeneye...and is basically the key reason why online games for consoles became so popular....because it proved you could get pc quality FPS games on a console......

so dont hate! appreciate!....because without Halo you may not have most of your beloved list of FPS games

Complete BS. I'll say it again: C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E BS!!!

At least the idiot who edited that list has SOME kind of sense not to mark Halo above Half-Life. Halo is so F'n overated. The only real innovation Halo introduced was online multiplayer for the console crowd back ealier this decade. Deus Ex can walk all over Halo and then make it hold its coat, but this total dumba$$ didn't even include Deus Ex.

13 - Nice list but where is Gears of War....
It doesnt say FPS.

The top 3 could actually be shuffled around for the top spot in anyway. All 3 of those games have are corner stones in the FPS genre. Doom was the first widely adopted FPS, it was the foundation of the genre. There were others before it (if i'm not mistaken) but that was the one that stuck. It lost its footing when the genre begin to innovate to fast with Quake and Unreal.

Half Life, kept the genre alive thanks to PC owners during the times when technology was upgrading and we couldnt get fully realized FPS on consoles.

Halo is the perfection of balance in a console FPS. That was almost there mission statement. To just perfect First person shooting on consoles. Their are alot of haters to the Halo Dynasty but that is because it was on a new system that they didnt frequently play so they never got achnce to understand why it is praised so high.

I do think Unreal, Quake should be up a little bit higher too. I also wish they would revamp the Jedi Knight series tighten the Saber play a little bit then that genre would be on the list.

Jedi Knight series is so damn good on the PC and the saber duelz were sweet as well because on the pc people can make their own moves because of the use of keyboard and mouse

Everything about it was done from previous PC games.... Sorry Quake series owns golden eye and halo.

What happened to Deus ex!!!

Deus Ex brought the most out of a fps with rpg elements
Doom/Doom2 Was amazing for its time and pioneer
Quake 1,2,3 brougtht the best of deathmatch

Although I did not like system shock I dont understand why its not here

Resistance, Killzone, Gear of war is not a franchise yet, and to be exact the Games hasn't come to a sequel,even though the games have been confirmed for release date, but this the game haven't release yet, therefore the games still not to be listed no matter how good it is.

However when games will released the games will sure be listed, and I know Gear be somewhere on the top as well as resistance or even Kill zone if the 2nd turn out to be as good as it was hyped out to be.

BIOSHOCK made the list and it's a new video game series. But with all due respect to resistance's fan, Resistance: Fall of Man is over rated. The gameplay is average and the story is a hodge podge with bad narrative direction. The weapons are probably the best weapons i've ever seen in a game and the A.I is great but unfortunately it doesn't make up for how average the rest of the game is.

It would have been nice to see battlefield before Halo since Battlefield pretty much created call of duty and others and BF2 definitely helped COD4 become what it is. But why do they say nothing of Battlefield Vietnam, one of my favorite and one of the coolest online shooter ive played.
