Michael Bay Rumored To Bring Us a Metroid Movie

Michael Bay, famous director of Pearl Harbor, The Rock, Armageddon, Transformers, and The Island, has a gift for delivering fast paced action and special effects to the big screen is to be rumored to be talking with Nintendo about directing or producing a film based off of Nintendo's Metroid series.
Each decade film tends to focus around themes like musicals in the 1940s and chick flicks in the 1970s. The new millenium (2000-2009) has been centered around super heros and comics, for example, Spiderman, Ironman, X-men, Superman, and Ghost Rider. There is even a Super Hero Movie which is being filmed by the makers of Scary Movie and Epic Movie.

As 2009 approaches and we head into a new decade one can only wonder where film will take us next. This is where the speculation starts of a Metroid Film produced by Michael Bay. As the gaming universe has now been expanded through the use of the Nintendo Wii, more and more people are now recognizing video gaming jargoon and characters. The Wii did something for video games that no other console besides the NES has been able to do, and that is make video gaming a mainstream media format. In fact, Nintendo holds six titles out of the 10 top selling video games according to VGCharts. So the rumor is that film makers will be looking to profit next off the popularity of video games, and in the case of Metroid, Nintendo's renewed popularity.

thanks mate i allready check those sites regular but still

im serisouly getting a bit pissed about hd-media, no matter what format hd-dvd (dead) or bluray they BOTH lack releases and i really really dont understand why they take so damn long for them

GIMME :
Starwars 1-6
Matrix Trilogy
Lord of the Rings
Indiana Jones
Tarantino Library
Transformers
Animes (especially studio gibli)
Alien quadrology (lol)

what i especially dont understand is why it takes them so long to give us the hd-dvd library (matrix for example).

i really normally dont buy blurays of movies produced after 2002 but those mentioned above are allready digital remasterd.
so... where are my blockbusters ?

Actually there was an ad in my local paper they're looking for people of Asian decent for paid extras in Transformer 2. They're using the old Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces and shooting begins first week of June.

1.6 - u know what
we all should fund Michael Bay and Uwe Boll in the production of Metroid, they each do their own style for the movie and personal direction of Metroid, then we would she who would be the better director.....

I got down on my hands and knees and praying that Michael Bay does this, keep it away from Uwe Boll, unless above is done...Michale Bay when pwn his a$$, hopefully Uwe boll would quit afterwards

Please no. Metroid deserves a much better director. One that shows respect to the original material not completely ignore it (Bay and Transformers 2007).

Completely agreed. Bay already ruined Transformers by turning it into "Shia LeBeouf and the GMC-bots". He'd do the same kind of nonsense with a Metroid movie. No doubt having Samus involved in some cheesy love story, since that's always a Bay movie staple.

Definitly agreed. I thougth I'm the only fan of old Transformers that hated the new movie. Seriously, Bay's movie was indeed a Shia LeBouf vehicle and did more than inslut Optimus, Megatron and many other legendary Transformers characters.

Good one on Samus. They'll add a cheesy love story with explosion after explosion and no sense of meaning, adventure or soul.

I would actually prefer having the action and effects assured (plus at least being fun to watch) with Bay than having a who knows director and a "cheesy/bad love story with no explosion, average effects and no sense of meaning, adventure or soul"

I as a HUGE Transformers whore (as how my avatar shows) I thought Bays attempt at Transformers was much better than what we could have expected from another director based on the whole blockbuster summer movie label, the source material and the target audience

the point of the movie was a nostalgia trip mixed with and updated looks for the new audiences on a full action summer package, if we wanted more universe faithful it would have been a HUGE mess and would have required a VERY special director to be able to handel it AND the studio producers wouldn't like it

Charlie2688, I have to disagree with Tranformers. Bay's Transformers for me was more than horrible and sometimes unwatchable.

As for Samus, I agree that no matter what director, they'll add some stupid love interest or something but still, to me, anyone aside from Uwe Boll would be better than Michael Bay who has no respect for source material and origins.

why? was optimus a cab? bumblebee a guitar? did a super dog defeat megatron? did the hero dress in pink with a purple hat? did they decided the Transformers were Biker Mice from Mars? was Uwe directing it?

the movie/story was no oscar winner but it was enough to be fun and fit what the movie was aiming for and that is a summer action blockbuster and like i said based on the source material they wrote the script around the 80s kids Transformers cartoons it pretty much fits the base core hell they eve managed to be more faithful to the universe and add little stuff here and there for the fans that twisting it beyond recognition like other directors do (Doom, Resident Evil) and you don't have to tell me twice about the universe (or universes/realities) since I have the majority of the Transformer Comics (more than +160) and I know my way around so trying to be more faithful, complicated or serious would have been a mess

and even in the worst case scenario was at least fun to watch (plus that Megan Fox babes was pleasant to the eyes :D )

one key thing one must remember is that one thing is what we want or hope to be translated from a fans perspective vs what is realistically possible as a movie to be translated by the director and screenwriter and doesn't clash with either one or the studio executives

I dont know Metriod isn't really a Michael Bay kind of film but I do think a Metriod film could do well.

But since for the most part Samus always goes it alone making a movie out of it could be difficult in a sense of staying true to the game.

I think the easiest part of this is choosing someone to play the role because all she needs to do is look hot and have decent acting since for the majority of the film she's going to be in a suit anyway.

You know, you bring up an interesting point.

Perhaps the reason video game movies suck so much is that you usually have only one character and the entire story is internalized... very little character interaction. I think you lose sense of the game when you bring in all of these other characters that were never part of the cannon.

Can you imagine Samus talking to anyone... at all? Perhaps maybe a computer to converse with feeding her data etc but I couldn't imagine a Metroid movie with any more characters than just Samus....

Finally, give some video game movies to REAL DIRECTORS!

Edit* I know alot of you guys hate him but alot of people really like his movies. Transformers was a big hit and I thought it was a great movie, even if it did stray from the material.

Ridley Scott would be awesome and would be my first choice. With Joss Whedon or the Wachowski brothers a far second. Hell I would even throw David Lynch in the mix. Bay may do a good job but I'm not holding my breath. They could have saved money and gone with John Woo.

12 - as long as it's a good movie....
and has awesome special effects...I'm for it. GO WITH GEORGE LUCAS!! haha

The only thing that worries me is who they pick for Samus. It's either gotta be a no-name actor, or a well known one that can actually pull it off.

Jessica Alba has the face imo...but she doesn't look good as a blonde, and doesn't have the body for it. We'll just have to see who they pick.

14 - A Metriod movie by Bay will be good!!!
Metrion isnt the type of game that deserves a A-List director. Think about it, the whole game is shooting space piretes. Save the A-List directors for the Metel Gear/Bioshock/Mass Effect grade of games. You know games with deep story elements.
I for one dont mind a action popcorn movie, its why i go to the movies.
If I want freaking Shakespere, ill watch it a home, thank you...

I've met that girl on the picture with her suit on. She used that as a cosplay at the swedish anime expo "Uppcon". That suit was awesome.
And i would gladly see a Metroid movie as long as it isn't the Boll that does it.

If its michael bay or some other big name most likely the game would get enough money to be a good movie....usually they are just to cheaply made and fs up the whole thing

If you liked Transformers than you have poor taste and are easily entertained

I hate Michael Bay with a passion. I wish he would go fight Uwe Boll and the stadium collapsed, killing them both.

Satoshi Kon or Koji Morimoto would be excellent choices for a Metroid Film

Right on. The Transformer fanboys really need to stop. Having watched this movie a hundred time in HD on Cinmax I'm sick of it, I know the Bluray version will look a hell lot better but the movie itself doesn't hold up after multiple reviewing.

I guess the only reason so many people loved this movie is the shock and awe of it not turning out to be a total crap. Its an average movie, VERY average.

Transformers wasn't even about the transformers. They took a backseat to the boring drawn out love story. The decepticons looked like scrap metal and lost there character. Please keep him far away from Metroid!

He made Transformers more about the humans than the bots themselves....I didn't like that direction.....The CGI battles where good and some of the one liners where alright but that's about it...

If he is indeed involved with Metroid I hopehe plays ALL the games first....If he adds a cheesy love story it better involve Samus + a sexy female.
