Maxim: Wii Fit can f**k off, no one needs exercise

In what has to be one of those most angry-sounding and negative Wii Fit reviews to date, WiiFitChat.com reports that UK-based mens magazine Maxim slams the exer-gaming title in its review, stating that it can "f**k off* because "no one needs exercise."

Ouch.

Indeed Kudos.

IS this the start of a media lashback?

I doubt it... Wii's are just too harmless.

Agreed. WiiFit is no replacement for actual exercise.

Agreed, but I don't see those sport game fanatics playing sports instead of video games, or war game fanatics enlisting in the army instead.

Wii-Fit never claimed to be your only source of exercise, it is a game about exercising. Miyamoto himself suggested that people should go out and exercise more so there.

So get a grip, if you don't like it, do the one thing you can do: DON'T BUY IT!!!

People need exercise but noone needs wii fit. Its a complete scam. You could do the same thing standing on a box and watching a 10 quid exercise dvd. And youve saved £60.

" You could do the same thing standing on a box and watching a 10 quid exercise dvd"

you could, but how would one feel about it while doing that?
Wii fit will keep their attention because it keeps track of everything you did in game.

wii fit is not meant to make you FIT, its meant to KEEP you fit because you are more aware of your health and weight if you at least play Wii-fit 30 minutes aday.

why is it so impossible that this thing could actually motivate people to go to a gym?

4 - Whether Wiifit is for you or not, that's your decision but "no one needs exercise"
is ludacris, take a look at American Diet and obesity.

4.1 - Funny thing about
that is, Americans exercise more now and go to the gym then they used too. There's massive amounts of "diet" food and programs too. I blame the majority of American's weight issues on out needs to eat fast food.

I remember an American family tried to sue McDonald's for making their child fat. That's the problem right there. No-one wants to blame themselves for their own problems anymore, even if their problem is self-inflicted (in this case, obesity). We all feel the need to put the blame on outside influences.

In a way, Nintendo have capitalised on this, by taking advantage of the consumer's need to rely on an outside influence to take care of them. The outside influence, in this case, is the videogame.

I don't blame Mc Donalds or any of the fast food places. It's more like the pace of life here. Fast food is just easier and people settle for it rather then a nice home cooked meal or something more healthy.

^^^ While I do sort of feel sorry for this kid... it's his own fault really, for being such a glutton. Still, it's sad to see.

4.6 - Sorry to disagree but...
It's the parent's fault for not keeping an eye on the kid's diet.

Put the kid in some sort of team sport, restrict video games to maybe one hour per day. There are many ways to keep your children in good physical condition, and feeding them McDonald's on a regular basis is not one of them.

Shame on the parents.

Dunno if I completely agree with the way Maxim put it, but I think you, me, and Maxim see eye-to-eye here.

I laugh and laugh when people try to tell me Nintendo are "innovative" or "take risks". I do respect the company, and everything they've contributed to this industry, but so far this generation, they've been pathetic. Not in success, but in nature.

Ever wonder why there are barely any Wii fanboys on this site, or any gaming site at all for that matter? It's because 90% of Wii owners are computer-illiterate old age pensioners or 4-year-olds. For proof: see sales for games like No More Heroes and Zack & Wiki, in contrast to "Carnival games". It's shameful.

Their business model isn't entirely different to EA's, it's just that they take the "kid-friendly" approach.

Anyway, I'm starting to preach, I apologise. Bubble to you.

I couldn't agree more, specially on the innovation part which I also agree that Nintendo hasn't been innovative this gen. Sure, the outside controller is different but their games remain the same and could have been made without Wii-mote.

Also, definitly agreed on Z&W and NMH. Glad to see you hate Carnival Games as well (Man, I still can't believe that game was a hit...). Also, agreed with comparing them to EA.

You definitly deserve more bubbles than me my friend :)

No, you deserve the bubbles, your positive attitude is quite refreshing, among all the flaming. As you can see, by the nature of my last post, the flaming even got to me D:

I'm glad you agree. I'm just passionate about gaming, and the games industry, and I don't really agree with what Nintedo are doing with the Wii, the direction they're going with it. I especialy don't like seeing great games like NMH and Z&W failing, because of Nintendo's approach to the casual market. Those games deserved better than they got. I find that sad, personally.

I'd give you another bubble if I could, mate :)

Thanks again. I'm also passionate about games and don't agree with big N's direction. Wii could be much more but with casual approach of Nintendo and their denials, things don't look good for real games on Wii like Z&W and NMH.
Let's hope for the best and pray that Mad World does well :)

wii fit is stupid and so is nintendo for making it.why the did they make an exercise game for?do they think they can trick fat kids into working out cause its got the nintendo label on it?fat kids are smarter than that i hope.nintendo just wasted a crapload of money making this garbage when they could have invested it in all the other games they make like..um...nintendogs?

Who needs a treadmill or stationary bike or membership to a gym? America is obsessed with weight and weight loss. This was a no brainer by Nintendo. Can you blame them for trying to capitalize on it?

I asked my wife if she would be interested in it and she said she would use it once or twice and most likely forget about it. The Wii board will be just like the treadmill. Sitting there collecting dust after a few uses in 90% of the homes.

Wii fit is nothing more than a joke and a way for Nintendo to capitalize on idiots into thinking that they will get skinny with this product. There is a nerd who I work with who is all excited for Wii Fit and he keeps telling me that he thinks it will make him "lose some pounds" which is a complete joke. I am sure that is how 99 percent of the people think who are going to purchase this product. As I said though Nintendo seems to know what there doing in terms of coming up with cheesy ideas and marketing it.

Because it has nothing to do with maybe, just maybe making exercise fun right?

It is a video game, not an exercise plan. If you see it as the later then that is your fault.

i love how when the dude swings (could be you, could be someone else) the camera does not register the motion.. and his hands go right through the balls.. then he stands with his foot over the area where the ball comes out of and it counts as a hit..

this game is all about will power.. just like a gym.. though its nice to have the interactivity.. in a few years when the software side gets better these games will get better.. however we had these webcam games back in like 95/96 when webcams were cheap enough to buy.. i played volleyball against my friend via 56k modem using webcam.. sure it lagged.. sure it sucked but mostly worked.. like this software.. but really it SUCKED SO BAD..

21 - Hrm well for a mag..
I would expect a serious magazine to atleast try to uphold some sort of tie-n-suit relationship to the media yet they write (based on the example given) like they were an online blog, hence they become just another low standard magazine not to bother reading unless you got too much time on your hands^^ but even then walking outside picking up trash could actually prove more giving than reading the mag. ;o

22 - I say it's a bit harsh but...
Will have to agree. I don't play video games so I can stay fit. I play them for the visual stimulant and for the large portions of R&R and Coke that it helps me consume. I have two kids and they keep me running enough to keep my boyish figure. 6 foot 2 inches and 175 pounds later, I feel as fit as I am going to get and don't need some Wii fit to help me there.

23 - MY 2 cents
LJWooly - There aren't many WII fanboys here cause we don't need to be fanboys.. nobody needs to think we're retarded like you 360 and PS3 fanboys.. yes we give other systems a try and yes we enjoy the wii. We don't feel the need to defend the wii at every step and say every sh!t game is good cause its on out system *cough* HAZE *cough* I'm sorry that WII fanboys don't have low standards like you and don't need to whine like little children when something bad is said about their console, we just let numbers speak for themselves.

as for this MAXIM article.. first of all.. they aren't a Gaming mag and secondly if you want to get yourself into YOGA and stuff like that then this would be a great start.. yes not every guy wants to do YOGA but i've seen it done and its pretty cool the way they use the balance board. and everyone need some exercise, and if WII FIT is the best they can get then i'm sure its better then nothing..

also if i wanna see hot women i can go outside and meet some.. i don't need a magazine.. and if i don't wanna go outside i got the internet.. but besides unlike the people that read these magazines so they can fantasize about these women.. i have a beautiful girlfriend, and i don't need to use my imagination to do the things i wanna do with her ;-)

PS. I don't think this review will impact the incredible sales this will have.. and NO I'M NOT BUYING IT.. 2 reason.. no space and not appealing to me.. though my girlfriend wants it badly..
