Could 2008 top 1998 as greatest year ever for gaming

2008 doesn't seem like a great candidate, atleast so far, as THE BEST YEAR OF ALL TIME like this guy seems to think it is. Considering that a lot of the big hitter games aren't coming until next year (FF13, God of War, Gran Turismo, Killzone) we don't have a clue what Nintendo has for us, probably not a big Mario or Zelda game, and tons of games, like Resident Evil, White Knight Chronicles, Halo Wars, Starcraft 2, and so on are very likely to be delayed to 2009, its hard to say its going to be a big year until we see E3.

well so far i think 07 has been better then 08 but thats cause its over and i can make a good judgement. It is far too early to predict that 08 will be the greatest since 98. so lets wait until dec 31 08 and make the call, any sooner then that and you ride on speculation..

remember BRAWL was supposta be a launch title.. then it was supposta be a 07 title and i don't think EU has it yet. So can't really judge this until the very end, many things change, things get delayed. It happens.. hell maybe everything awsome won't come till 09

in 1998 you had all PLATFORMS firing on all Cylinders, I can't say the same today with all the Pirating issues killing PC gaming and others things.

Yes some good games coming out but some things have changed.

Fallout 3, LBP, Resistance 2, Gears 2, Guitar Hero IV, Star Wars Force Unleashed, MGS 4, SOCOM:Confrontation, Fable 2, Banjo 3, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, GTA IV, Smash Brawl, Halo Wars

And 2009:
God of War 3, Killzone 2, Prototype, Getaway 3, Infamous, Brutal Legend (OMG!)and titles that will be announced on this year E3

NOTE: Just in case, i didn't forgot a game on purpose is just that there are too many games coming out

12 - As much as this will likely piss off all of the 15 year olds....
2008 has some fantastic games [ hopefully ] ..but they are likely over-hyped to the point where the delivery will be moderately anti-climatic...MAYBE.

Half-Life and Ocarina are absolute timeless gems of the industry...

To not acknowledge this... you probably do not deserve to speak about video games..

i agree with jaz...killzone 2 looks good but from the previews i read it seems like the gameplay isnt there yet..i wouldnt be surprised i mean look at killzone 1....very good graphics for its times but had bad gameplay...graphics dont make GAMES ...just look at the wii

I didn't mean "wherever KZ2 goes, That'll be the greatest year ever"(a following the coat-tail reference)

^^^sorry 4 the weird grammar, just trying to get my point across.

As much as I wanted it to be released in 08, I'm actually glad it got a 09 release date because I haven't been blown away by the AI in recent footage. It's just that KZ2 was looking to be a great addition to the already FAT stack of GREAT games coming out this year.

There's still A LOT of heavy hitters this year and I certainly don't want KZ2 to be the Assassins Creed of 08'

As did 2001 (I think? Was that the one with MGS2, GTA3, GT3, FFX, Ico etc?)

But here comes 2008 where games are just looking phenomenal.
GTA4, Gears 2, LBP, Resistance 2 etc.

Then 2009 comes and we should see an even better year! Golden age of gaming right here, 3 years of increasing quality!
