Wii Online: Top 5 problems

Nintendo Everything: "On the whole, the Wii is a very approachable and entertaining console. Compared to that of the GameCube, Nintendo has made considerable strides to improve its stance in terms of online features. However, even though the online functionality of the Wii is far more superior to the GameCube and Nintendo DS, there are still some lingering online feature issues. Here are the top five issues that Nintendo desperately needs to approach for a more seamless online experience."

Friend codes - not ideal, but I can live with.

Cr@ppy channels - not interested. I don't have to use them.

WiiConnect24 - not bothered about lack of content.

BUT lack of voice chat makes online a fail for me.

How can you play a sophisticated online game in a team / squad, give instructions, take instructions, form plans without it?
You can't.

I think that's why all Nintendo's online team game offerings have had to be simple enough that you don't need tactics. You can't have strategies with pre-typed text messages.

Now, I know playing your mates in the same room is great fun, but what happens when you just want a 30 minute online match without having to go round your mates house?
Online is a great way to keep in touch with people that dont' live 10 minutes from your house. But it isn't if you can't talk to them.

I've got a partial solution for Nintendo. Why not allow only members of your friends list be able to communicate with you via voice chat. Not perfect if you are playing in a team with strangers, but at least that way kids are protected from strange men and are only allowed to talk to friends they have actually swapped codes with.

Call of Duty 4 allows you to mute annoying people, I don't see why Nintendo couldn't just use the same idea.
